So I have a significant dental phobia. I don't mean that in a "I find the experience of getting a cleaning stressful" way. I mean a "Xanax the night before and morning of, heart racing, I may throw up on the way in" level phobia. S whenever I make an appointment, I know I need to plan several days ahead to be in a calm enough mindset to make it through an appointment. So when I got stuck in traffic to the point where I was almost twenty minutes late, I had no idea if they would still be able to see me and my whole "Namaste" mindset was out the window. Not only did they see me, they did backflips to make sure I was comfortable. They were fast, diligent, and overwhelming kind. I cannot thank Dr. Williams, Amy, or Theresa enough. I'm a nurse and I truly hope that I am able to show my patients the quality of care that everyone at University General Dentists have shown me. read more

I have been to this group located at UT medical center and never had any issues up until recently. It had been 3 years since my last visit and this time, I was very disappointed with the entire experience from start to finish. One issue that stood out right from the beginning, was the egregious communication skills of the resident dentist. He aggressively questioned me multiple times about why it had been so long since I was there. I gave a general answer because I really didn't want to share with him my personal life story of losing my sister very unexpectedly in 2022. I didn't feel like I owed an explanation for being occupied with her only child who has severe Down's syndrome. I didn't feel the need to explain the amount of grief I have had to deal with over the past few years. I was finally focusing on my own underserved needs and felt like he was scolding me for being noncompliant. When he wasn't able to pinpoint my pain issue, his attitude spoke of unbelief. He questioned me about why I didn't come in sooner if I had so much pain. I explained that this was the first appointment I could get, and I made it 3 months ago. I waited patiently because I didn't want to go anywhere else. I had very good results in the past. I could go on with multiple other complaints about the resident dentist, but it would be several pages long. When I went to check out, I was told I had a past due bill of over $100.00 from my last visit in 2021 and had to pay it along with this visit. I explained that I never received any bills from them. I was told, they sent out 1 statement and they don't use a collection agency. At this point I wanted to get as far away from them as possible for my own mental wellbeing. So I quickly paid the bill and left. I will never go back and will encourage others to go somewhere else. read more

I am owed reimbursement! I'm a RN at UTMC so I was glad to have a dental office so close to work. I had to have a root canal and a crown done in February on a cracked front molar. Before I went in I inquired about prophylactic antibiotics (as has been customary with other root canals I have had done) but was told it wasn't necessary. I had the procedure done and a temporary crown placed until the permanent one could be made. A few days later, I started experiencing excruciating mouth and jaw pain. I called the on call dentist and I was told that nothing could be done over the phone, that the temporary was probably seated wrong and I could come in the following day. The dentist I saw was a different one than the original and she took X-rays and assured me there was no abscess and made the temporary a little smaller. After two days the pain had never subsided and there was a visible abscess on the outer gum where the tooth was. I called and was told that it was just left over debris being pushed out of the gum line from the root canal procedure(?). When pus eventually oozed out of the abscess pockets, I called the on call dentist again and they immediately called an antibiotic prescription in. When I came back into the office they did a panoramic x ray that showed obvious abscessed pockets below and on the root of the neighboring tooth. I was told to keep the wounds in my mouth open and let them drain and was scheduled to have my permanent crown placed once I finished a second round of antibiotics. A few days before that appointment, the temporary popped off. They said that this was common of temporaries and not a problem. I then come in for the crown seating appointment and I am informed that when the temporary (which is made to 'pop off') came out it took the remaining tooth structure, that is necessary to seat the crown, along with it. The dentist that I was seeing this time said that not only should the temporary not have came off but that it definitely should not have taken the tooth structure with it. She said that I would now require an implant ($$) or a bridge (which involves root canals of the two healthy teeth on either side of the original) but that she was sure they would be able to work something out regarding putting my original insurance and out of pocket payments towards the new plan because I had already paid for the original root canal and crown. During this time, I changed jobs, and therefore dental insurance. So when I went to discuss the plan with the lady over insurance payments she only offered to see what my current insurance would now cover and offered no option of reimbursement to my previous insurance or to me for the $900 out of pocket I had paid for the services that were never fully rendered. When I insisted that I should at the very least receive a credit for services at their office (not that I would prefer to go back after this) and I was told she would have to speak with my previous insurance and get back to me and would send preauthorization to my new insurance anyway. When I don't hear from their office, I call back and unfortunately have to have the same conversation regarding the change of insurance and need for a credit on the account. I am told that since she was not in the room when the dentist told me that the temporary shouldn't have broken and that they would be able to work something out, she can't be sure that it happened. I am then told again that they will talk with my previous insurance and get back to me on the billing side. Now it is infected again and I have reexplained this issue about billing multiple times and just ended up having my primary care doctor give me antibiotics. My most recent message from the office only says my insurance will not cover an implant and makes no mention of the paid for services owed. I call today again to see if they have spoken to my previous insurance and I have to relay the entire issue over again as they have no idea what I'm talking about. I am at a loss for this kind of treatment and just want my tooth fixed THAT I ALREADY PAID THEM FOR! read more
