- Lovely well-maintained park with a barnyard - It's a lovely surprise to see farm animals at a park! My husband drove my daughter and I here this morning, and I was surprised to see some farm animals here (cows, horses, pigs, ducks, rabbits, goats). There were some kids waiting to ride a horse too, and it looks like they also took them to the trail in the park (there is an equestrian trail too (yes, I've never seen that word in my life until today lol). The park seems well-maintained, and the barnyard area looks clean too. There are electrical wire around some areas of the barnyard, so I'm guessing some people violates the rules of no feeding/touching the animals regardless of the signs. I've never seen it before, so we exercised extra caution while trying to see the animals at a reasonable distance away from the wires. The park itself looks like a forest with super tall trees and fresh air. Some parts of the park is paved and it also looks well-maintained despite the horse poops on the road. There is a small creek in the park that kids can easily get accessed to as well. The bathroom was also clean despite looking like a bathroom at a campsite. ps. There was also a cat who came to me to let me pat. It also meowed when I stopped meowing, so I had to pat it again (this repeated for maybe 5 times). I am not sure why nobody else mentioned this, so I'm guessing it's a stray. read more

This is an amazing oasis. There's a barnyard area with rabbits, pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, goats, ducks, and more! There's no feeding the animals as they're on special diets, but some of the animals like the goats will come up to the fenced area for pats. I can see why they don't allow feed, as when I visited there was a private party with lots of kids-the animals would have probably gorged themselves if there was free reign of food. I liked how there was an outdoor row of sinks at the restroom facility since it encourages good hand hygiene after petting the animals. There's also a family restroom to make this place especially family friendly. I didn't have time to check out the trails, but they go through a wooded area and it looked cool. read more

This is a lovely park with a lot of open areas for throws and playing and such. They have horses, pigs, ducks, cows, sheep, goat and other such animals. My 3 year old had a gala time looking at the animals safely and while doing that she also loved seeing other families and kids who visited. There's a trail for the hike lovers too. The parking lot is spacious... Best of all. It's free! read more

Such a beautiful tiny farm in Redmond. This is a good way to spend aday for families (specially) with little ones. It has a little bit of everything: farm animals, short trails, a few slings, lots of green areas for picnics, restrooms (with changing tables). They have: cows, horses, ducks, rabbits, pigs, sheep's, goats, and chickens. No restaurants/vending machines or whatsoever; but you can bring your own snacks/food. Parking lots? Yes, there are plenty of them, but it can get busy during summer and sunny days (specially weekends because of birthday parties and horse riding classes) Give it a try, it's beautiful!!! read more

Somehow, we've loved this area for almost a decade but never explored this little gem of a park. It was time..... beyond time..... I had about 2 hours to fill with my 5 year old and 8 year old on a weekday morning (Thank you homeschool life). I had no idea that this space was so .... full? We visited the animals first. Goats, ducks, hens, and bunnies. I think there was a cow as well. Each animal has a little placard about how old they are etc. My littles loved it. No outdoor visit is a 5 star without a playground..... and the swingset checked this box. There was also a huge grassy area to run around..... and run we did. I finally managed to convince the littles to look at the trails with me. They weren't too happy about being pulled away from the fun stuff..... but eventually came around. We ended up on quite a walk.... mostly because I let the kids navigate and we got on a bit of a detour. Lots of local growth for plant identification and well maintained trails though made it easy to engage them as we went. Will we be back? I hope so! read more

Good option to have a quick and easy walk with your kids. There are two entrances for parking and after a walk, you'll meet at the middle so don't worry. Just cross the creek You can also make a picnic near the farm where there are a few tables and a lawn part. Regarding the farm I would say it is so cute for everyone. Not only for kids :) There are very friendly animals and people that guard them. You can always ask questions :) I don't think they are open on rainy days though. read more

Can't say enough good things about this farm / Park. It's confirmed for me that Redmond is basically Pawnee and I couldn't be happier to live here! How many cities do you know that run a farm? Love it! This is the perfect spot to bring a curious toddler on the weekend. It's close by, free and very low commitment; if she eats cranky, we can run in the field, swing on a swing or just straight up leave. It's small but We can easily make an afternoon of it by bringing a small picnic for a snack. She loves listening to the animals and watching them get fed. When she's older, I'm sure we'll be signing her up for their various classes like horseback riding. I highly highly recommend this as a wonderful, educational experience for kids that is a lot of fun for everyone. read more

The park itself is truly a hidden gem! Gorgeous and beautifully maintained trails are perfect for children and strollers! Plus animals to see! However I'm giving them a 3 star instead of 5 because of the experience I had yesterday at the park. Myself and 2 of my mom friends took our 5 children (all under age 5) to this park for a little "hiking" and play time and at first our experience was perfect. Then we stopped at a picnic table for lunch..... We were near the equestrian center, and in that parking lot was a smaller RV with a gentleman I believe to be living in it, he was clean and friendly when we passed, however about 30 minutes into our lunch he comes barging over to the picnic area yelling at us. Apparently our children were being too loud!? (They were singing to the trees and all around being KIDS in nature!) He was yelling and saying we were disturbing the wildlife (there was literally one other person we saw in an hr period over there and Zero animals) he said we were so loud he was calling the cops and told us we needed to pack up and leave! Our children were SO SCARED they were hiding under the picnic table! We tried to have a calm conversation with him and he kept getting more and more agitated. We finally asked him to leave and said we would wait for police. He walked away and we called the park itself and asked to speak with a park employee. And we didn't get much help unfortunately. So we called the non emergency line and spoke to the Redmond police. We explained we didn't feel safe walking past this man in order to get back to the other side of the park to our vehicles. Initially they said they didn't believe we would have a problem walking past him. But again we expressed our fear, this gentleman is in a motorhome and clearly angry with us, who knows what could happen!? Finally they dispatched a police officer. She was amazing! Her name was Sergeant Julie Beard. She met us on the trail and escorted us back to our vehicles. She was AMAZING! She made our kids feel safe and encouraged them to be in nature and make noises! (You know be kids!?). I'm not sure what developed with the gentleman in the RV. But it definitely made me more weary of taking my children to the park :(. In conclusion if our experience wasn't so scary I'd be raving about this park. However now I'm left raving about Redmond police! They were amazing, unfortunately humanity isn't as amazing and we constantly have to be on our toes in an area once believed to be safe. read more

A good place to hang out, take a walk, see some farm animals, or even have a picnic. I've been going here ever since I was really little. From what I can remember, there's some hiking trails that you can go on. There's also a little playground and some swings you can go on. There are bathrooms and you can also rent for parties and horse riding lessons. If I remember right, they have horses, goats, cows, bunnies, pigs and chickens. They have a little barn and if you go behind it, you'll often see pigs behind the bars. The last time I was here was a few years ago when our school took us here. read more

This is a great spot with kids. There is a wide open grassy area to play in, short-ish hiking trails (under 0.5 miles), and ANIMALS! When we were there we saw baby pics, ponies, horses, a cow, chickens, goats, sheep, and more. Also, there are ample picnic benches to have lunch or a snack. There's no playground (just swing sets), but that wasn't an issue for us given all the other things to do. read more

Really great spot for outdoor fun, especially on a nice day. I was really surprised to find out that it was free to go, especially since it is so well-maintained. There are a few animals (goats, pigs, cows, chickens, sheep, horses, ponies, and rabbits) as well as two small playgrounds (2 baby swings and 2 children swings in one area, and 2 tire swings in another area). Lots of space to run around though and there is also a family-friendly trail. Definitely recommend if you're local! It may not be worth a special trip if you're coming from far away though since it's quite small and minimalist. There's no food or attractions, but there are bathrooms. For toddlers though, I think this entertains them just as much as a zoo would and it's cheaper and less crowded. read more

Beautiful park and farm, except the barnyard animals are fenced off so you can't go see them until January 2021. We did see some cute ponies behind the fence. My son was upset because he spotted a big green tractor and wanted to go see it but we couldn't because it was behind a gate. My suggestion to the owners would be to park a tractor out in the walking area where kids can touch the wheels etc! He would have loved that, especially since you can't see the barn animals right now. read more

As a mother of two VERY busy toddlers, a 3.5 yr old boy and 2 yr old girl - I can be a challenge to find unique activities for your little guys outside of the same jump park or children's museum. I've had to purposely seek out activities for my little ones which does multiple things: hold their interest, challenge, educate through exploring and play, and most of all have fun! The Farrel-McWhirter Farm checks all these boxes and more. Once you get past the beautiful walking trails and lovely open green space - you'll discover tucked away in the back is a work farm! Part of the City of Redmond park service, the farm offers wonderful out-door planned farm activities year round for children of all ages. From horse back riding to animal husbandry - it's exciting to see the classes they offer each season. Our little guy LOVES all things farm related and really enjoys the My Little Pony program they offer where he has been learning how to move and respect the horse's space and take care of them (granted they are little bitty pony's). Instructors walk the children through the parts of the animal from the hooves to the main before taking them on a little trail rides which builds confidence in the children working with the animals. The farm also offer programs on Bunnies and Chicks, Sheep and Goats, Cows and Pigs, etc. All these animals live on the farm and are good with interacting with children big and small. Depending on the age of the child - age appropriate classes teach children about the animals, from what they eat, to how to interact with them safely as they learn about their environment. Not sure about the older kids - but the instructor will end the class with a fun craft which your child gets to take home. Classes and schedules are updated and released via the City of Redmond website. Classes fill up fast, but they offer quiet a few extra classes for the more popular programs. They also have waiting lists on some as well just in case someone drops out or there's enough interest in a program to schedule another class. Classes are not that expensive - usually about $30 for 1 or 2 hour sessions (which is about all little guys can handle) and you can register online. The farm is one of the few out-door learning pre-school options we've come across that really works where the animals are taken care of and cared for. The hands on experiences our 3.5 yr old has had at the farm has been a joy to watch and something he can't stop talking about the rest of the day. The best part is all the activities are outdoors on a working farm - which is where our son wants to be 24/7. They also offer pre-school farm classes, seasonal pre-school classes, as well as, one-off classes if you want to it trial out. I just wish they offered afternoon classes for little guys like ours who will be in school in the fall. The facilities are clean and well cared for. There's a play area and wonderful trees if you have a child/baby with you that you want to entertain while the older child is in a course. The land and structures on the property have a rich history - which is posted under one of the meeting areas outside of the red barn. The Farm also offers a cute party venue to host parties and events that we saw as an option via their website. Love that the Farrel-McWhirter Farm exists and the diverse options they have that our little guys can enjoy. Note: once you register a child's birth date online - you can not change it, nor can you register a child who's too young or too old for an age specific class. This is probably my favorite eastside park (and Redmond alone has some awesome parks!). When you come here, as soon as you enter the parking area off NE Redmond Road (off of Novelty Hill Rd), you immediately feel like you're far away from the city. It truly feels countrified, in an authentic, rustic way. 1. It's a huge park, with wide, wide open spaces. Lots of open fields and meadow for running, throwing a football, flying a kite. You have the idea. 2. Winding trails where one can get lost exploring (at least, I have! And I've been here over 100 times in the past 13 years or so). 3. Farm Animals. They're here. You can see goats and rabbits and pigs and horses and roosters or chickens and more. If you time it right, you might see baby animals. 4. Ponies. They're also here. The City of Redmond hosts many summer day camps for the younger set, and also seasonal events (hayrides in the fall, for example) here. My kids took riding lessons here when they were younger. They loved it. 5. Picnic areas, complete with grills for barbequing, and small shelters for gatherings. We used to host GIrl Scout events and barbeques here. I often see banners here for familly reunions and other festive gatherings. 6. Ample (and free) parking. 7. Small playground structures interspersed along trails. I'm specifically thinking of a swinging tire by a small creek that my kids used to play on for hours. There are also swings by the picnic areas, and fabulous old trees with huge gnarly trunks and branches to explore and climb. 8. Cool bathroom facilities in a free-standing galvanized farm silo. 9. You can often see cats roaming by the pony areas, or people riding thier horses on the perimeter of the park. 10. It cost nothing to visit this park, but as mentioned above, there are seasonal events that take place here. This place is awesome! Far less stuffy than it's Bellevue counterpart (ahem), this park has friend animals and woods to explore. The staff is very friendly, once offering to take out a rabbit so my kids could pet it. There are goats, rabbits, chickens, horses, 2 pigs, and two friendly barn cats. Also there are trails through the woods that loop back to the farm (for the most part) and pass tire swings, streams, and more horses along the way. A fantastic place to spend a few hours! read more

The older kids were running around through the woods with walkie talkie's acting like...umm...well, kids I guess. 3yo + pony = happy camper = happy dad. A big open grass area, perfect for setting up a picnic camp, or if you prefer, covered picnic shelters. I got lucky and did it right, we set up a picnic in the grassy area, about halfway between the farm house and the swingset. The result? My daughter running back and forth (at least 100 yards) because first she wanted to look at the turkey, then she let's go swing! now let's go see the chickies again! And the pig! Now let's go swing! Anyone who has kids has immediately realized that this place has all the right ingredients: - A lot of things to keep kids interested - The price is right (read: Free) - It's large enough to guarantee a good nap time and easy bedtime when you get home (priceless) read more

I drove pass this farm nearly everyday and didn't know it existed. I'm so happy to have found it. First off it is free!!! With two kids finding a place that is free is awesome. They have lots of farm animal pigs, goats, cows, rabbits, horses and chickens to name a few. There are tables, making it a great place to come have a picnic. My kids have a ton of energy so I like that there is a lot of green grass to run around in. Also they love the swings. Last time we came I saw that someone was having their birthday party there. This has been a favorite park to take kids to since our now adult children were toddlers. My second child was a volunteer here with the ponies when she was a teenager. Our most recent visit was with our 2 grandkids who were visiting from Olympia - their mom was the pony volunteer - and our other toddler granddaughter. We came on a rainy day - imagine rain at the end of June here??? lol. We just looked at the animals then left as it was cool and wet. In the past we have walked the trails and spent more time. Don't expect many park-like things here. The play structures a pretty basic, with some swings. But that's not the reason we love to go to this park, is it? They have so many beautiful animals, the grounds are so well-kept, and it's rarely very busy. It's just kind of tucked away in Redmond and even though so many people seem to know about it, we never feel crowded. Lots of wide open spaces for the kids that like to run around, fun animals to see and learn about, and lots of good little nooks for a picnic lunch. Bonus points - I'm a photographer in the area and this is one of my favorite places to shoot. Lots of diffused light because of the trees, fences and barns for back drop and the tree-lined paths are picture perfect. read more

How fun to find this park right in Redmond! There was a small animal farm complete with: chickens, bunnies, cows, lambs, goats (one was clearly pregnant ), a sow and horses. And all this entertainment for FREE. They plenty of spaces for family barbecues, trails to walk (perfect for kids because they were on the small side) and overall plenty of space. The day we stopped by there was even a birthday party at one of the rentals that they have available. I checked out the brochure and the prices were reasonable. I also read that they have horse lessons which was awesome! Come and visit because this place is a gem!! read more

This park is a great little place to take family and friends for a nice day. There's a serious set of swings - 2 adult swings and 2 small child swings that were very sturdy. I plan to come back when I have a serious urge to swing :) They have barnyard animals you can look at (but not pet or feed!) - they also have horses and ponies with informational brochures on riding classes which is pretty cool. There are real bathrooms with auto-flushing toilets in a silo near the back of the park. They have multiple pavilions/buildings available for reserving with grills and working sinks even. I was very impressed by the facilities and thought it was a good size. The grass was a little brown and even gravel in some spots which was a bummer, but this park makes a good place for a picnic and smaller sporting activities. read more

I'm writing this review as a mom bringing her young toddler to this park. There are a handful of animals to look at, and a couple trails to walk on. There are two swings on one end of the park, and two tire swings on the other end. There's lots of wide open grass space, and a picnic table. That's pretty much it. It takes about 5 minutes to look at the animals. I have a young toddler (1 year old) so he's not interested in learning about the animals. His short attention span makes our visit 15 minutes max. He enjoys walking along the trails. read more

We had an amazing bday party for my son here (4 years old). We did classic party package with pony rides. I was on the fence about paying an extra $100 for the deluxe pkg, but glad I didn't. Even for my cowboy-obsessed son, red checkered table cloths and a bouquet of balloons were sufficient. It wasn't hard to provide our own disposable napkins; plates; cups; and utensils. We bought a farm sticker activity sheet from Amazon (oriental trading brand) and the kids were just super happy with all the animals to see; pony rides; wide open spaces; and games that the park provides outside of the house. The only thing I think they can improve upon is their communication on who can ride the pony ride. I had to choose the "ages 2-6 option (under 65lbs)". It wasn't clear to me if my 7 year old guests who weigh under 65 could ride. I called and got varying answers. In the end, they made an "exception", so I'm thankful for that. read more

What a fun little out-of-the way park. Home to various farm animals with well-thought out enclosures that allow your little ones to get great up-close views. There's a large tire swing out at the end of the small wooded trail that takes you around the horse enclosure. And there's another set of swings (two adult, two baby) set off from the barnyard in the other direction. Plenty of sprawling green space to run and play in.
