I was disappointed with our recent experience here during a bday party. While I understand that gymnastics involves physical activity, I felt the instructors were not as careful as they should be, especially considering the young age of the participants. It was kindergarten party, so 5+ year olds. The level was not suitable for kindergarten children, who need extra guidance and a gentler introduction to gymnastics. Unfortunately, my child was injured during a session, which could have been avoided with better supervision and a more tailored approach for beginners. My kid was told to switch her legs while in air and then jump on ground. Safety should always be the top priority, especially for such young children. This being her first exposure to gymnastics, this was obviously too much for her and she fell and twisted her knee. They should be mindful that for such bday party events, only introductory lessons should be thought as for some kids this might be first exposure. read more

LOVE THIS GYM! My 8 year old loved coming to Emerald City. We were transplants from another gym in Kirkland which we had a very bad experience at so we loved coming to the professional and clean Emerald City! The classes are very structured and professional, each child gets independent coaching, and the kids are taught in a kind and encouraging manner. THE WAIT LISTS ARE WORTH THE WAIT GUYS!!!! ***Update*** I received a message from the business owner about our visit which made me change my review since they are a responsible business who cares about clients and esp. Kids.. A website which is not updated (its been almost 2 years since the beginning of Covid and they say the hours are pre-covid hours) and we came from Issaquah to here for free play time which was used to start at 12pm, we came here at 12:05 and they said the free play time is over at 12:30pm so we would only have 25 mins for $20. I wish at least they could offer me a free 25 mins of play saying "sorry about our mistake please come in for today and play".. read more

We've had such a fantastic experience here for our 4 year old. Out of all the sports we've enrolled her in (swimming, soccer, karate) this gymnastics class is by far her favorite!! The teachers are motivating and engaging and the class is incredibly active. She is moving around from station to station enough to keep her really engaged. In just a month I've already seen her confidence soar on activists that she was nervous about at first (like the big balance beam activity). I had a small concern about their covid safety practices and how they would help ensure all children were masked and they took my outreach incredibly seriously. The children and staff are not only masked but they space them all out really well plus with the high ceilings there is a lot of air flow. It's so hard to find an activity that really gets the wiggles out that my kid loves plus makes me feel safe during covid and this class checks all the boxes! Highly recommend. read more

They have very little flexibility. I'll agree that they have a bad make-up program. The front staff have lost my registration paperwork and called to inform me that my child, "couldn't be allowed on the gym floor until this issue was resolved," as if I did something wrong. We've already been attending classes for 3 months and suddenly it's an emergency on my part to get the paperwork in again. My 3.5 year old was in the normal preschool age class and was "invited" to join the more expensive 90 minute, twice per week "advanced" preschool class. She loves gymnastics, so I went for it. She hated every minute of the advanced class and I can see why. There was no play. It was all drills and learning moves which needed to be practiced over and over again. Can you imagine, a 3 year-old? Anyways, when I put her back into the more playful 45 minute class, I received some attitude from the staff as to why she "couldn't cut it" in the advanced class. I would absolutely recommend this gym! My daughter has had such an amazing experience here. Before we joined ECGA she was thinking of quitting the sport, but the incredible coaches at this gym turned it all around for the better. They helped her gain confidence, improved her skills, and made her feel safe. This place is not a place for toddlers; staff is rude, the toddler and me class is unstructured and made up on the fly, and the intensity of the rules for both parents and children is absurd and not intended for safety but rather to keep the toddlers out of the way so the older kids can continue their structured class. We have been at this gym for over four years. I have had over 25 years experience with gymnastics facilities as a gymnast, a coach and now a mom of a gymnast. I have been 100% impressed with the coaching staff, the owners and more importantly the program that has been built at this gym. I just moved across the country by myself almost 4 months ago. I've also been a part of Emerald City Gymnastics for almost 4 months. Joining Emerald City was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I was immediately welcomed by the entire staff and treated like part of the family. I felt at home in just the first month being here. I'm so impressed with the time, energy, thought and care the staff puts into the gym. Each month there are lesson plans and goals for each individual level to work on. It creates consistency and organization, as well as making for the most productive use of class or practice time. The level of care for the safety of everyone in the gym is always a priority. Starting from the youngest classes in the gym, kids are first and foremost taught how to land safety, and as they get old enough to understand, they learn what to do to keep safe if they make a mistake. The owner, Sandy, does a truly amazing job at running a successful gymnastics program, as well as creating a safe space for everyone who enters the gym. She is constantly overlooking every program and ensuring that things are running to the highest standards. On top of that, she is continually finding a way to help all others in need and doing everything she can to give back. Coming from a background of gymnastics programs on the East coast, I can say with absolute certainty that I couldn't have ended up at a better place. I would recommend ECGA first, anyday. read more

I have received a message: "Did you know that ECGA has some of the TOP athletes in the Region? I am sorry you had a bad experience and wish you would have brought it to the attention of the ownership before spreading inaccurate information." Personal experience - is an inaccurate information? Well, it might have the best athletes in the area, but it doesn't make them good teachers. My daughter has been attending other facility for a few weeks now, and she does amazing things that she wasn't taught during her year in this place. She also attended a week long summer camp in a different gymnastics facility, and the results were clearly visible. A week! During the end year show here the parents around me were saying the following (in different languages that I happen to understand), and I quote: "I am so glad my husband isn't here to witness this! He would have been very upset we paid for it all year long..." and husband to wife: "seriously? you dragged me here for this?!?! and you paid $30 for her outfit? what did she do here all year long? She doesn't know a single move!" The best about the place is its convenient location. Yes, I know parents who still attend it because of this, since there isn't much in the area. I also know parents who prefer to drive to Lynnwood, twice a week, for 4 years, because a convenient location is not good enough for them. To be fair it is fun for the kids, but from personal experience you can get more results for your buck elsewhere. A personal experience can not be classified as "inaccurate information". read more

I love this gym so much, I have been going here for 7 years and I have never had a problem I love it and always will!

Consider this place if only: 1. Your child is young and you just need some indoor activity to burn off her/his energy; and 2. You don't want your child to be competitive gymnast DO NOT consider this place if: 1. You want your child to become a competitive gymnast; and/or 2. You want structured/challenging lesson in a small group Although most of the coaches/staff are friendly, there are a couple of coaches who should not be around the kids. Coach Caila often manhandles her students (who are only at the age of 3.5-4.5yrs old) and I've never seen actually smile while coaching. There are some coaches who are nicer but most of them are either in high-school (or at least they look/act like it) or college. The facility is super packed, too. read more

This is a great gym. The owner is hands on and despite having quite a lot of kids. There are multiple tracks at the gym, a recreational track (which my older daughter does) and multiple competitive tracks (my younger daughter is in mighties). The competitive track coaches are excellent; we've had Coaches Brian, Justin, Jesse, Andrea, Trey. The rec coaches are fine too, just not as consistent. The owner will tell you that this isn't the gym for you if you expect the coaches to yell and push too hard. They are serious and have a track history of winning gymnasts. But they expect the kids to bring it desire, focus, and effort-wise, and there's a self-selection aspect. I've been incredibly impressed with their emphasis on safety and facilities (modulo changing/locker area), and how strong my girls have become. They're not world-beaters in this sport, and probably never will be, but that's ok. Only issue is high turnover of students. Girls are constantly moving between levels (they advance at diff pace), and rec level has lots of folks who come/go. Some of the performances mentioned in other reviews reflect that. NB: birthday party here is pretty nice. They have a bunch of fun kids activities to burn off excess energy, w/staff on hand to entertain. Open gym is fun, cheap daycare, too. read more

My daughter competes level 7 gymnastics and we were in the area for a meet. She wanted a gym to work some skills, so we came to their open gym on Saturday evening. From the moment we walked in, Brian made her feel so welcome. Over the two hours she was there he helped her adjust the bars, gave pointers, put cones around her on the floor so she could practice without worrying about little ones crossing into her path and getting hurt. All in all, he treated her like gold. She was tentative about coming in, but that all went away due to his warmth. Thanks, Brian! read more

Our daughter has been at ECGA for a year, first as an Excel Bronze gymnast, now level 3. This is a serious gymnastics academy, with terrific coaches, and great facilities. Our daughter is very motivated, and has found the right environment to develop her skills. Sandy and her team are doing a great job, they love the sport and take it seriously. Our experience has been excellent - a no-frills club that takes its trade seriously and shares that passion with the kids. read more

My kids, 4 and 8, have been going here for several months and we've been pretty happy with it, especially for the reasonable cost. My preschool child has 1:6 ratio which the instructors--who are probably high school or college girls--seem to manage ok. ECG offers an adaptive class for special-needs kids which my daughter does, and I'm really, really pleased about how well the instructor has been able to handle her and encourage her when, frankly, she can be pretty difficult sometimes. I don't expect either of my kids to turn into competitive gymnasts and frankly have no idea how high-quality the actual gymnastics instruction is (so don't feel like I can give a 5 rating because that would be a factor and I just don't know), but I'm certainly very pleased so far with how the instructors have dealt with young and/or difficult kids. One complaint is how completely crammed the cubby/line-up area is. It's insane, and when the preschooler gets ahead of me I literally have no idea where he's gone. I don't seem to see kids standing around for extraordinary amounts of time, no more than in any other sports practice. Haven't had any billing problems either. read more

I've had two kids attending here for over 5 years. Up until recently I was satisfied (wouldn't say it was fabulous, just decent for rec gymnastics), but I have to say that I went to great lengths to track down the good coaches and make sure my kids were in their classes. The coaching ability here is definitely all over the board and there is a high coach turn over rate (I've heard it's not the best place to work). The boy's program suffers the most from coach issues primarily because the owner prioritized the girls program more and is more than happy to pull a good boys coach to put them on a different class. And this happens repeatedly. I would only recommend attending here IF you live close by, AND you take the time to find the best coaches, AND if you have a girl. Then you have to hope and pray that great coach doesn't leave, or the owner decides to put that coach on a different class and sticking you with a lame coach. If you have a boy on the other hand you might be stuck. I'm looking at other gyms but have heard from other parents this is likely the only gym offering a decent selection of classes for boys, especially older boys. read more

They have the worst make up policy in the world. My kids do a lot of activities, bollywood dance, Ballet, Paino, Karate and emerald city is the most stingy for make up compared to all of them. You can miss one class a month or 4 classes a month you get one open gym. no instructor and parents should not stay with little kids. One time they cancelled the class because there was no power and Since I had already missed a class in that month and enrolled in Open Gym for that session -- they could not give me any compensation for the session they cancelled. There was no notification about cancelled stuff. Every parent drove that day and went back from the door. Instructors for younger child are either too lazy that they just in corner and ask kids to do something or just keep on laughing at undisciplined kids without giving any attention to the class. I tried 5 instructors for my daughter in this Gym before I found one that was "okay". Enough is enough, Put down my notice to withdraw my child today not going back here ever. Save your money. Stay away. read more

I attended a birthday party for a 5-year old here last weekend. They had scheduled time for the kids to run down the trampoline (jumping into foam pieces pit) and basically just run around on some mats and in a simply bouncy house. The staff was nice enough and had the kids run and find things of different colors, stretch, and seemed to watch the kids well. The group used a small party room for what seemed like a very short amount of time before having to leave for the next group. We barely had time for some food and cake and then had to clean up quickly. If I were paying for a party (and I don't know how much was paid), it would almost be worth more just to party at a park with a play toy and covered area. I think if I were to have a gymnastics party, the staff could teach some real gymnastics things, even if for pre-schoolers, like somersaulting, walking across the balance beam, etc. rather than mostly free play (I think that is an option for the party, so make sure you know which you are picking). And for little kids that just want to run around, maybe a bouncy house place would have been better, like Kidz Bounce in Preston that has like 10-20 bouncy things. read more

The same high school girls "teaching" gymnastics run the front desk. They fail to enter things in the computer system, lose receipts, and charge for things you didn't buy. They charged me three times for the same leotard and tuition for a month after we stopped attending. It's run incompetently and they desperately need a professional manager and staff. read more

Really wanted to like this gym as it is close to our home and was referred by a friend who liked it. One of my daughters has been doing gymnastics for several years and wanted to only tumble and give up the gymnastics aspect of it (bars, beam etc) so I found a 'advanced tumbling' class here and thought that would be perfect for her as she wrapped up gymnastics as a strong level 7 tumbler. I was shocked at what they considered 'advanced'. Kids working back handsprings and several without even so much as a front or back walkover. The coach was clearly excited to have my daughter join the class but she was practically left to her own devices for the rest of the class since she didn't require as much direction. Luckily I was only in there for a trial class and will not return. Place was so crowded and noisy. Cannot imagine it is functional to the kids. In retrospect I should have considered the source of the recommendation as my friend has a very young daughter that attends classes during the day for fun. read more

Seriously, do I pay for my children to roam aimlessly while the instructors all stand in a corner and socialize.

We have tried this place several times first when my daughter was in the Parent/Child Class and once again recently she is now 4.5 yrs old. And I am sorry to say this place is not a good gym. First off the Rec program is done by age and not ability or skill level. The kids are all lumped into a class regardless of abilities and my girl was bored. Anyone who has any sense would understand that a there is a fast difference in abilities between 3 and 6 year old children. They do not perform any sort of evaluation so kids are often not appropriately placed. The coaches for the Munchkins and Mini Munchkins classes spend more time socializing then coaching and often times kids just hang out looking bored or end up doing whatever they want. The coaches discuss person issues among themselves when they are suppose to be coaching. I found it frustrating to watch them socialize for 15 min of a 1 hr class. They rotate kids through way too many stations and it's chaotic, kids forget what they are suppose to be doing and just end up doing whatever, again the coaches pay little attention so time is wasted. And speaking of wasted time there is a whole lot of that going on. It's chaotic, kids are all over the place, kids are confused, coaches are not engaged and out of the hour session maybe they do 10 min of actual gymnastics. I attempted to address my concerns at the desk but was given a big blow off.. the receptionist just told me someone would call me which they never did. Some one did end up calling my husband and leaving a cryptic message which he ignored. I have withdrawn both my girls from ECGA and they are attending another gym 3 times a week. it's too bad they lost our business but this place is a waste of parents money and child's time. The only reason I am giving this place a 2 star is that the facility is fairly nice, spacious and clean. read more

Our girls are in the JO program. We moved to this gym last year and our transition has been great. The owner, coaches, staff and parents have welcomed us with open arms. The owner knows every kids names and has an open door policy. She is very supportive and truly cares about the children's well being and most of all their safety. The owner cares about the community as well. This is evidenced in her involvement with charitable causes...always willing to help those who are in need whether it's within or outside the gymnastics community. I have three kids at ECGA. Between them, they've done pretty much every level from parent/child classes up to the competitive team. I should mention that I'm a former competitive gymnast myself, so I'm pretty picky about my kids' gymnastics instruction. At the recreational level, the facility is clean and well maintained. The parent waiting area can be pretty crowded, and the cubby area is an absolute madhouse at the top of the hour when the classes turn over, but the gym floor itself has plenty of room for all the kids that are out there. The instructors set up circuits at each event to keep the kids moving. The drills they do may seem like no big deal if you're not familiar with gymnastics, but I recognize the beginnings of many foundational gymnastics skills (handstands, cartwheels/roundoffs, even more advanced skills like kips) at even the parent/child level. The student/teacher ratios have always been reasonable in all of my kids' classes. A tip: For parent/child and preschool classes, I *highly* recommend the weekday morning classes, if that works with your schedule. The gym is way less busy, which is great for little ones who get distracted easily. Also, all the coaches I've seen in those time slots are very experienced, and there's hardly any turnover. Second choice would be Saturday morning classes. That said, if you need to do weekday afternoon/evening classes, they are totally fine as well. In fact, that's how my oldest daughter and son both got started, and they're now both in the competitive team program. The competitive program is fantastic. Just look at meet results -- at every level, ECGA usually places 1st, occasionally 2nd, basically never lower than that. One of the top gyms in the entire state. I also want to call out that they do have a boys' competitive program, which many gyms do not offer at all. I never really envisioned my son being a competitive gymnast, just figured I should start him in classes because otherwise he'd complain when his big sister went to classes. Turns out he loves the sport and is pretty good at it. I'm so glad that we chose a gym where he could progress from rec classes to a competitive program. And ECGA gets these great results in the "right" way. The coaches demand a lot of the kids, but are unrelentingly positive about it. No yelling or berating here. And the kids all support each other so much. I remember one time, I was watching as my daughter's group (the lowest level over in the east/team gym) was getting ready to rotate off beam, and one of the top groups was getting ready to rotate on. All the girls in my daughter's group chose one last skill to do before rotating off, and the top girls stood there and watched them carefully and cheered for them like they were competing for Olympic gold. Like I said, I'm picky about my kids' gymnastics instruction... and I'm *thrilled* to have them at ECGA. read more

My children have been attending ECGA for several months. I have a 5 yr old in munchkins and a 6 yr old in the boys program. Both my son and daughter have excelled during their time with their instructors. From my experience, each class has kids moving at all times, each working on something different. The boys do parallel bars, pommel horse, and rings. The munchkins class focuses on fundamentals of gymnastics. My kids love going there and I think the price is great. read more

My daughter has been at Emerald City Gymnastics since she was two years old. That was more than a decade ago. My son also did gymnastics there for a period of time. We have seen this gym evolve in so many great ways. The owners are so focused on offering a safe, learning and fun environment for everyone. There are not many business owners that will put the kids and staff first. This place does and always has. I can see where other complaints are coming from, but for the price, I'm not exactly sure what people are expecting. Young children learning the basics don't need anyone too advanced to teach beginning skills. This is NOT dance, where you can have an entire class doing the same thing all together. The nature of change in the schedules of college age young adults each quarter makes the staff turnover very understandable. We have enjoyed each coach and they are doing a great job of giving my daughter confidence and teaching skills she can't/won't learn from me. I have never seen the staff not engaged with the kids- to the contrary, they learn their names quickly and assist/spot on various activities as needed. read more

As I tend not to rely on reviews, because you cannot please everyone EVER!! I do feel it is necessary to address some negative comments. My daughter has been attending ECGA for over 10 years. It has improved ten-fold. My daughter has gone from one hour a week, to rec-op 9 hrs per week, to JO (team) 16+ hrs week. She has enjoyed 95% of it. Yes, many ups and downs, however she is still competing and loves it. In most if no all businesses you have employees use that business as a stepping stone, especially with high school students needing a job to work effectively for the employee, but most importantly, for the little athletes you, as parents have encouraged your child to practice. The pay, I am sure is not much more than minimum and working with 8 little ones and more....well is not easy but from what I see, the coaches enjoy it. As one review stated, "kids stand around waiting for their turn". Well, as I see it better to make sure each child is doing it correctly than not. No business is perfect and you will always see turnover but the front office staff are friendly, professional, and helpful, as well as the coaches making sure your child "has fun" in a "safe" environment. Because isn't that the most important thing? They have play-care so you can drop off your child and leave, while the employee watches and entertains but also making sure they get to practice on time, for your convenience (if you choose). This seems to be a nice addition of ECGA which they are happy to provide. I have seen and heard parents yell and insult some employees because they feel that their child should have that pesky little cartwheel, perfectly by age 2. Maybe...but probably not. Our daughter will stay, compete, win some lose some, while working hard and getting frustrated as I will, however she will have fun and keep herself in excellent shape. read more

My six year old nephew loves gymnastics but the owner, Sandy, of Emerald City Gymnastics does not value, uplift or respect black children. So after 1 short month we pulled him out of the program. He felt like he was being singled out for behaviors that were also evident in other children during the sessions. I approached the coach who clearly had some implicit bias against my nephew and then later went to the owner. After interacting with the owner and sharing my concerns with her, she said referring to my nephew "He has a problem" and began to argue with me. She never once acknowledge my nephew, me or our concerns. My nephew said referring to the owner "she's treating me differently because I'm black." I highly dissuade anyone from sending their loved one, especially black children, to Emerald City Gymnastics. Their sense of worth and beauty will be diminished. read more
