Fascia's Chocolates is a family-owned chocolaterie that opened in Waterbury, Connecticut in 1964. It was founded by husband and wife John & Helen Fascia. An electronic technician by trade, John worked for the Bristol Company. He began to roast nuts and sold them at work to supplement the young family's income. In an effort to increase sales, he and Helen began making chocolates in their basement. In addition to chocolate nut clusters, they soon began to make caramels, toffee and creams. The chocolates became so popular that soon the Fascia's basement operation couldn't keep up with the supply and demand. By 1978, they opened their first retail store on Meriden Road. Two years later, John quit his job so he could make chocolate full time. John and & Helen were soon joined by their three young daughters Louise, Lynne and Laurie. In 1985, the business moved to an expanded storefront on Wolcott Street. As business continued to grow, the business would relocate to Lakewood Road in 1990, Thomaston Avenue in 2008, and finally to Chase River Road in 2013. The Fascia Family still runs the business, although John & Helen are now semi-retired. My family and I recently visited Fascia's Chocolates to attend a special "Chocolate Experience". We were escorted into a small room with other attending families. There we were greeted by Company President Carmen Romeo, who happens to be married to Louise Fascia. He quickly informed us, "I may be the President, but my wife and her sister are the real bosses." He gave us all a presentation where he discussed the history of the company as well as chocolate production in general. He gave all attendees samples of the three main types of chocolate (Dark, Milk & White) and discussed the differences. Afterwards, all children were able to make their own chocolate bar with their choice of toppings. My sons both picked rice cereal and Fruity Pebbles. We also got to take a look at what happens in the production area. After the experience, we all went into the retail shop and explored all of the delicious chocolates that Fascia's produces. While I distracted my sons, my wife discreetly purchased some chocolate coins for St. Patrick's Day and chocolate bunnies for Easter. We all had a great experience at Fascia's Chocolates and hope to enjoy their delicious chocolate again! read more

Love the small chocolatier shoppe with a variety of chocolates to choose from. This time we got some truffles and chocolate covered strawberries, a sugar free candy bar and some milk chocolate nonpareils I've been here once before where I participated in the chocolate tour. The staff brought us to the back room where they go over the history of Fascia's chocolates, the different types and percentages of chocolate as well as other delicacies they make in their stores. We were even able to watch them make other candies live while we made our own. We made a chocolate bar with melted chocolate, decorated it with our candy selection and were able to bring it home. Came here for my daughter's birthday, after she tried some chocolates we brought her from a yelp event, she was craving some more. The kids got to learn about the chocolate making processes and sample different types of chocolate. We got to mold a "pizza pie" or chocolate bar with toppings of our choosing and we got to dip some pretzels in chocolate. As it cured with played bingo. Before we left, we had to purchase more chocolate. I got some chocolate covered cherries that were amazing. I love the chocolate here, it's so creamy. Bought tickets for the chocolate tour and bar making months early to go on Valentine's weekend but morning of my son was sick so we called right before and postponed a few weeks which they were cool with. My kids loved making the bars. The videos and educational parts were a bit too much for our two year old so we mostly spent the class wandering the gift shop. And also dipped some chocolate pretzels. We got a history class on the start of how fascias chocolates came to be. I've not been going to many places in high population areas with Covid 19, but I had to make an exception for Fascia's Chocolates partnering with the Thomaston Train Museum stuffing a caboose for Toys for Tots. In a show of community spirit, 10% off was being offered with toy donations. The chocolate is more expensive then what you'll find at the drug store, and the difference is worth is. I was in Waterbury yesterday and was delighted to visit Fascia's. I haven't been there in years, and was so glad to see that they still sell all of my favorites. They have the biggest and the best chocolate covered cherries I have ever eaten. Fascia's also sells delicious chocolate covered caramels, pecan turtles, assorted chocolates, and molded chocolates. Didn't get to do the factory tour but it was very nice to see an old fashioned chocolate shop like this that sells the red hearts at Valentines Day, so I was able to buy one for my mom just like my dad used to get her. I do not recommend this place. I was excited to head there to try out what they had to offer. Come to find out It's artificial chocolate, and some kinds even have synthetic food coloring in it. I wish it said that on the name so i knew before i went all the way there. You are better off getting Hershey's chocolate from your local supermarket. On top of that it's very very overpriced. Ten bucks will get you an education, a fun time and plenty of very good chocolate. They offer a $5 tour and a $10 tour with the ability to make your own chocolate bar. Hell, that choice is a no-brainer in my book. You walk into the store-showroom and there is candy everywhere, so if you just want to grab and go, you can. There are samples to munch on, and a gelato-sorbet case if you want a small ($3) or medium ($5) cup in a dozen flavors. The tour isn't a tour in the conventional sense. You sit in a big room set up classroom style. On your right is a big glass window overlooking the production floor where you can see the chocolates being made. There is a big flatscreen TV up front that complements the presentation and featured the famous I Love Lucy scene where she works on a chocolate assembly line. Our tour guide was one of the owners, Carmen Romeo, and he entertained us with a history of Fascia's (50 years old and started in a Waterbury basement), the history of chocolate, an education on the styles and quality drivers of chocolate, but most importantly --- how to make your own chocolate bars! You start off with selecting your mix-ins (if you want them) -all kinds of nuts, sprinkles and crunchies. You get a small cup of melted chocolate to pour into your mold, you add in your mixes, smooth them out with a popsicle stick, they get chilled by refrigeration, and get returned to you for packaging. So much fun. If you have a kid, bring him or her here. This big kid sure had a blast. read more

We rode the nearby train and it stopped here for a 20 minute break. I must say this is an ingenious pairing of tourist things to do (trains/chocolate) though if one decides to indulge in the sweets it can easily add up quickly. My wife and I walked through the windowed tour area of the factory but nothing was operating. We saw boxes labeled with another brand of chocolate (Pierres?) and I wonder if that is where they get their raw chocolate from. Don't know, but there was nothing to see in the tour. The gift shop has lots of types of chocolate (truffles, bars, cordials, etc.) and molded chocolate shapes. There is also an area selling gelato. On a hot day like today it looked good, but we instead picked out a couple of pieces of chocolate from the display case. Their chocolate is between $25-29 a pound (yikes), and I thought it was good. I am not a connoisseur of chocolate and a Nestles bar makes me happy, but the nuts and fillings did taste pretty fresh. If you bring kids in here after a train ride, be prepared to spend a small fortune or constantly tell them "no." That being said, it is nice to see a small town store succeed. read more

Attended a Yelp event here tonight, and it was great. Carmen one of the owners was super informative giving the history of the business since 1964 during our tour & chocolate making. They pair up the tour on occasion with the local railway which makes a stop at the store. The draw is the delicious chocolate that is all still fully handmade to this day. Educational and delicious at the same time equals a win win. We sampled dark, milk, white, salted caramel, milk caramel, and dark strawberry cream. Everything was great, I'd recommend the tour for ages 6 and up, also a kind of cool date idea. They also have a case of gelato that I didn't try, but looked splendid! read more
