She has seen me go from hot pink nails to French tip to ombré. I only trust her with my nails. Even when I was living between states I only ever went to her. Pretty cheap place and I was able to walk-in on a Saturday afternoon for a regular pedicure. The big problem with this place was that it was dirty. When I sat down in the pedicure massage chair, I noticed the attached table had a bunch of nail dust and even clipped fingernails. I wish I snapped a pic because it really grossed me out. Other than that, the nails looked pretty good but I couldn't help but feel like these things don't get cleaned regularly as the other tables seemed to be in the same condition. read more

She got a French manicure that was good however her thumbs were little rough so she had to go back in. There were very nice about fixing it right away and didn't give her a hard time. Once the acrylic was on it started burning & she had me dry them in the nail dryer which made them burn even more. the ladies here are very aggressive with the tools when they use them on your nails. She put on nail tips that were not the right size so my nails are like flat little paddles rather than having any natural curve. It was so extreme that my nail beds are super sore! As if that weren't enough, thigh their menu says it's only $32 I somehow was charged $45 for these AWFUL nails. And the final nail in the coffin? It's only been TWO days and my nails are already lifting! It's worth noting I've been having my nails done for years and have NEVER had problems with lifting! So... Went to Kim for the first time yesterday...I just work down the street and I had gotten a pedicure that was good so I took the plunge and let her do my pink/white fills. OMG she does an amazing job, they are thin (I hate thick nails) and the white line is perfect. The price is crazy good, only paid $32 for a pink/white fill and my nails were in bad shape! The only reason I gave 4 out of 5 stars is the place is a little drab, could use a face lift. In the meantime I will concentrate on my magazine and not the decor...KIm is worthy! Revision - same old same old...was excited at first but too often kids in the shop...Kim not there but they didn't tell me so i had an appt with some girl that was so unsure of her skills she cut me under the nail with that spinning weapon they use...the search for a great place continues.... read more

I have been going to Kim for YEARS! She does the best job with nails I have ever seen. She is gentle, does what you want, and her office is nice and relaxing. This place was the absolute worst - ever. First, I go to a salon to relax, not to listen to children playing, eating, yapping, etc. I live nearby so thought I would try this place when I was in a time crunch. Why don't they just change the place to a child care operation. Or maybe it was "bring your kids to work day." I would never bring my kids to a salon simply for that reason alone - for most of us, it is a time to relax. Kim seems frazzled and overwhelmed with taking care of the kids. Mani was rushed. My cuticles weren't taken care of properly. Polished chipped the next day. Probably had something to do with the clear polish not being 100% applied. Hand massage was non-existent. Best decision I made that day was skipping my pedicure. All in all, the place wasn't the cleanest. They over-charge since the facility doubles as a day-care facility. Wasn't greeted properly. She's rude. I book my services. I'm fine with someone offering me a service, but saying that I have awful breakouts is just plain rude. Seriously avoid this dive. read more

Being new to the area, I was looking for salons close to me and chose this one with an almost 5 star rating! My first time being there. I called at 5pm to see if there was an appointment available for a pedicure. I was told in 15 minutes. No problem. I showed up a few minutes prior to that time, was greeted and told to pick my color. I took a seat and waited my turn. It was odd because there was only one worker there. I have never been to a nail salon that was staffed with only one worker. However, I never mind giving business to the small guys and assumed it was a one or two person salon. I patiently waited my turn, which I assumed would be as soon as the other pedicure was done. However, 30 minutes later (30 minutes after my 5:15 quote) at 5:45 my pedicure was begun by a worker who literally just walked in the door. Not the one working on the pedicure prior to mine. Which irritated me even more because I had already noticed the other lady desperately making calls as she finished the other pedicure. I was asked if I wanted a sea salt scrub for $5 more. And although I was already frustrated with my wait time, I agreed because I always go for the premium pedicure. Which I am definitely not calling this one premium. The premium ones I usually pay for come with a hot stone massage and/or paraffin wax and last about an hour. My pedicure which lasted an hour (including the extra 30 minutes wasted as I waited for another worker to show up) was about as basic as it gets. And to be honest, seemed rushed. At some point she asked me if I had ever been there before and my reply was no. Not that it mattered because if customers mattered, you wouldn't quote them a time and then make them wait 30 additional minutes! I get too grade pedicures with all the extras for an hour. Not a basic pedicure with basic service. Toward the end, I was asked if I wanted a flower. Which, even though I shouldn't have done because I was already upset with the experience, I did. Of course, $5 more which I knew. I'm not even sure what the prices were because their pamphlet and the wall pricings didn't even match. I did tip the lady $5 which is lower than my 20% average. Needless to say, I got a mediocre pedicure at a mediocre price at a very poor level of customer service. I would have much rather been told no one was available until 5:45 so I could either wait until that time to show up or find another salon. On the way out, I accidentally smudged my toe when I bumped into a chair but I was too frustrated to even bother to ask to get it fixed. They knew I was a new patron and told me they would see me next time but I'm sorry, there won't be a next time. I still don't know how they have 4.5 stars based on the experience I had. read more

Kim is the only one who I will go to for my nails. Salons i went to in Encinitas did an ok job but I always had at least one nail come off or polish chip. Not here. My pink and white nails last a good 4 weeks. She has taken me very late (after hours) as I work in La Jolla and sometimes can't get in on regular work hours. DO NOT COME HERE! I had a bruise on both of my big toe nails from my work shoes that I had just broken in. The lady started to dig the bruises out from underneath my toenails eventhough I told her it hurt. She told me she had to otherwise my toes would smell (I've had bruises on a toenail from shoes before and they've never smelled) If her complete disregard for my comfortability wasn't already a good enough reason not to come back... fast forward a few weeks later and both of my toenails have developed toe fungus on the exact sides she dug her tool underneath my toenail. She did a nice job on the paint and the shape but now my feet look like total crap and this will take months to get rid of. They clearly don't clean their tools properly and that's a huge problem. save your money and your time and go somewhere else. read more

Walked in for a pedicure, and was immediately seated by Quinn. I ordered the deluxe pedi with sugar scrub, and he took great care and time with a leg/foot/toe massage (which was pretty great right after yoga class). My toes look very nice, and fell fabulous. The girls were watching a movie on Netflix and talking amongst themselves, but also including their clients, so it was nice. You won't believe this hidden gem of a salon with a jewel of a gal named Kim working there. I walked-in . . . got wonderful service (lip and eye wax) and stayed for a pedicure. The spa chairs were extremely attractive and worked like no other massage / spa chair I've ever sat in. THE BEST. And even though I was a walk-in and wasn't finished until 15-30 minutes after closing, Kim did not rush at all and gave me a wonderful pedicure/massage. I love this salon and look forward to coming back. One woman having her nails done said she drives all the way from Encinitas and will only come to Kim at Fashion Nails. I've got mixed feelings about this place. Ever since my nail tech over at be polished nails went MIA, I've been on the hunt for another nail tech who does quality acrylics since I'm very picky about them. It's so frustrating to me that the nail salons are all pretty much run of the mill in San Marcos and I can NEVER find anyone who does nails how I like. I decided to make a visit here since its conveniently close to my house. I read the other reviews on how it was family friendly so I even brought my 10 month old in with me. The place was super small nothing fancy, and Kim got started on my nails. I was pleased with her acrylic foundation, not being so bulky and thick like most places do them. They were very thin but strong and natural looking. The music playing was very hip & made it feel very welcoming in there. Fast forward a month down the line when I came in yesterday - maybe it was an off day I'm not sure.. When I got in I asked what the wait would be since Kim was working on another client, the lady said "well take you now" I picked my colors and sat down with her. Turns out she was only going to prep my Nails and in the process when clipping down my natural nails she clipped some of my skin underneath... "Ouch" no sorry, nothing. When she was done I was then passed over to Kim to do my application all while the girl sitting next to me was complaining that she didn't like how the girl was doing her nails and she wanted Kim to do them instead. So Kim rushed through my set and once she was done, passed me over once again for a completely different employee to paint my nails.... I understand that's maybe their strategy to be more efficient but I didn't appreciate being passed over to 3 different people. I most likely will be back since it's convenient for me and I don't want to keep trying out all these different nail places but I hope my experience isn't always like it was yesterday.
