The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, and if it's your first time it definitely helps to come 15-30 minutes early so that they can give you a quick tour and get you set up on your bike. The facility was clean and well-maintained. I like how for each of the sections, you get your own spot. The bike is designated, but even though you can choose your own spot for strength and yoga, they're still separated so that each person gets their own personal space. At the end of the class, I was given a rundown of my stats from the spin class and it gave me a more personalized goal based on today's class for the next time I come! I'm no athlete, yet Kenny manages to work with my limited capabilities to get me stronger and more flexible. After little more than 8 weeks (despite me ignoring diet or aerobic exercise discipline), I managed to lose over 4% body fat working out three times a week with Kenny! I also lost over 2 inches on my hips-- and I'm 57! Now I am encouraged to keep going, to lose the weight I've gained since menopause, and to keep getting stronger and get my full range of motion back. With Kenny's training and expertise I get to benefit from diet recommendations (gum had carbs, who knew?) and yes, even aerobic exercise. I'm going to try jump roping with one that has a counter in the handle. I'm looking forward to being leaner and fitter in 2019.

The sessions were difficult since I hadn't worked out in a few years, but reinforced my thoughts that I needed to get back to the gym and I signed up for a year's worth of their small group training. I love the small class size and while the classes are tough, my body feels better, is definitely toning up and I sleep better too. I love the individual attention the small group classes allow and how they focus on different muscle groups each day. Every trainer I've worked with leading the classes has been excellent....encouraging and pushing me to increase my strength but modifying exercises when needed to avoid injury. I got there early to avoid traffic and talked more with the owner, Angel and got to hear more about the sessions they offer as well as the history of how the gym came to be (lots of inspiration from he and his wife's love of Japan and their visits there!) and it was very welcoming! Walking in the door this place feels much different. The quality of instruction by the coaches is superb. Many injuries occur in CrossFit because of the lack of appropriate technique. The coaches at CrossFit Optimistic are not only making sure that everyone is getting a great work out but also making sure that personal form is adhered to in order to prevent injury. If you join this box and you most definitely should you will become part of the Martinez family and there are no words to describe these wonderful people. WODs are intense and never monotonous. The coaches and people you will workout with is what truly makes this the Family to join.
