Everything is so organized and there is always enough dumbbells/kettlebells etc. for everyone. They also have an air conditioned kids room that has glass doors with some toys and a tv. Makes you feel like you got a quality workout every time! Video instructors are great and tough! My fav classes are Hot Blast, Thunder, and Yoga but all are good. I started out 2 months ago as an online lifestyle client, having no formal training before, and since the process began, I have decided to not only compete, but to sign on for continued training post competition, and compete in the spring. My first competition is 24 weeks away. I have lost 18 lbs in 2 months, weight I didn't know I was holding, I have not cut out all of the carbs in my diet(in fact I'm eating whole nutrient dense foods now than before). My training plan and cardio plan is supported by Tina herself as well as an in person coach in San Antonio weekly to tweak my movements. For a long time I have struggled with body dysmorphia (as lots of young women do) and have bounced between physically demanding sports. For this reason, I do not count calories or weigh myself daily, Tina has programmed my diet in a way that gives her full control. I eat what she tells me, and work at the intensity level she asks of me. I cannot explain the amount of freedom and confidence that comes with hiring someone who knows your goals and gets you there safely. It's like boxing up my self criticism and giving it to someone else to handle. However, this program is tough(one of the most mentally and physically demanding things I have ever done), and it requires honesty and transparency on all counts. Tina is THERE FOR YOU, even through deviations. If you are serious about transforming your body and your perspective- I recommend her for it all. Through her move to California she has not ceased communication or attentiveness. She is passionate, serious about her work, critical of movements and form, knowledge of all things relevant to competing, and can help you hit new goals.

Two days after payment cleared, she announced she was leaving San Antonio for California within a month. That month turned into a few weeks. Initially she tried to persuade me and my workout partner to work with her online. After requesting refund instead, I was eventually shorted one session. Tina has ignored my communication to review her schedule and my swipe-in days to reconcile the days she left early and the day she overslept and did not show. In other words, she's just ignoring me. I feel she was deceptive from the beginning. She knew she was leaving when she offered us the dual workout plan and used our payments to fund her relocation. My recommendation is to use someone with integrity.

When you walk in, you step into a gym that removes you from all of the distractions of life and you can just do work. The music is pumping, you're greeted on a first name basis, the gym is clean and set up perfectly for the upcoming workout. You really can't help but push yourself to do your absolute best when you're there. Every workout is set up for a group personal training class, but Sam and Danny both have the ability to pay attention to every person in the class to give everyone the attention they need. They recognize the different levels of fitness and exercise knowledge in each client, and accommodate accordingly. I have seen just about every age and body type in the gym with me. Sam and Danny are both educated fitness fanatics and their passion for what they do is apparent every time I see them. They are both focused and serious about what they do, but they keep it a ton of fun as well. I am a Mom of two small children (4 and almost 2) with a full time job and crazy hours. I had been an athlete for almost all my life but had a really hard time getting back to working out after having my youngest child. My diet had also changed significantly during and after that pregnancy. I had trained with Sam previously, back in 2009/2010, and absolutely loved his personal training style so I knew I had to give Alio a try. My husband and I went in for a tour and a free class, signed up, set our goals, had our measurements taken, and Danny set us up with a personally tailored nutrition plan that he modified every 2 weeks (he still modifies it). Within two weeks (6 sessions) I already felt like I was returning to my old self...fit and healthy. During my first six weeks, I lost 8 pounds (144 lbs to 136 lbs) and a little over 5% body fat. This was with going to Alio only 3-4 times per week (no additional working out) and following my diet exactly as prescribed. My clothes fit better, I feel better, I ALWAYS make sure I make time for my workouts because I love going to this gym. I am not a morning person at all and I get up at 445 am to get to the 530 am workout if it's my only option because this has become something that I NEED. I absolutely cannot recommend Alio highly enough. I'm addicted.

At Gold's Gym, I meandered from machine to machine, half-heartedly gave the treadmill a go and looked over at the free weights section like it was the boss fight that I wasn't leveled up enough to attempt. I would lose a pound here and there but it was all just so.. boring. Alio doesn't do boring. Every day there's a new circuit that works a different set of muscles than the previous day. Add in the music and lighting and Alio makes Gold's look like the Wal-Mart of gyms. Danny and Sam are amazing trainers. Don't know what the heck a sumo squat pulse is? They're there to demonstrate and watch your form to prevent tweaks. Not sure what weight you should use for a single arm kettlebell swing? They're there to help you figure out what'll work for you. On the other end, if you're someone who loves a challenge, they are ready (and willing!) to make a circuit harder for you like adding in extra cardio and/or going up on the weights/reps. The best part of Alio Fitness Club? Results! I've personally witnessed many people get in shape here ranging from people whose goal was weight loss to others who put on serious muscle, it's always inspiring. As for myself, Alio has turned me into quite the flex-addict.. If you want gym results but dread the monotony of #gymlife, try out Alio Fitness Club!

I'm diggin on my new gym!…read more After relocating from the northside I decided to switch up my gym membership to some place closer to my new home bc let's face it - I won't go often if it's not convenient... So, I decided to go back to the Spectrum. I was a member here for several years when I lived on this side of town before and I always loved it. This particular location is fantastic. The size of the gym is big enough to mean you probably won't have killer wait times and you also won't get lost wandering around. They offer a great class schedule and I appreciate the varied times of day each of the classes are offered so I can usually find something to fit my schedule. The instructors are really wonderful. I have attended classes here at various fitness levels on my way to getting in shape and I've never felt like I wasn't up to par to participate. They always offer great encouragement to keep going and push myself, which I completely appreciate. They have a women only fitness room, which I don't care a ton about having, but it does make it nice during peak hours to have some extra machines to jump on and get a good workout without the wait. The locker rooms are superb. I could spend almost as much time in the sauna as I do on the treadmill if I'm not careful. I don't have kids, but they do have a big kid's area so you can drop them off and get a workout.

The transition has been smooth but it has me sad that it's not considered a "fancy" gym any more. I looked at Golds before deciding to go with Spectrum despite the cost due to the amenities and convenience. I worked with Erin when deciding to join, and she had quick and thorough answers to all of my questions and concerns. I joined last summer with a friend who lives nearby. The location was a very big determining factor in our decision to join- it's between work and home for me, so it's not that hard to pack a bag and make myself go daily before coming home. When you first join, you get a free session with a trainer- this was relatively wasted on me, aside from learning how to use the elliptical and getting a more thorough tour of the facilities than my initial visit. Unless you have a specific goal you are trying to attain or are truly clueless about what you're doing and have no friends who can teach you, I would consider the trainers overpriced. Then again, I haven't used them so maybe they're worth it. Make your own decision. As far as classes, the first one I went to remains my favorite- Friday night zumba with Kim is the reliable constant to start off my weekend right. Kim is the best, and I would even travel to the Universal City location to work with her Sunday class on the rare occasion that I run into a scheduling conflict on Fridays. The other zumba classes at this location have run through a few different instructors- Monday is a sweet, peppy latina whose body moves in a way mine simply can't but her workouts wear me out appropriately; Wednesdays and Thursdays used to be Ana who was young and had an annoying habit of checking herself out in the mirror and who neglected to utilize verbal instructions, relying instead on participants copying her body motions which is difficult when she's not directly in your line of vision, but now she's gone and I miss her brutal workouts; she's been replaced by Annie who also does classes at Rogers Ranch and who does the body pump class immediately following on Wednesday but I haven't been ballsy enough to try it yet; and the weekend classes are either too early (830 on a Saturday? No thanks, please move this to 1030 or so) or have changed instructors frequently- Margaret/Margarita(?) to a Karen?, to yet another unfamiliar face. I've also taken yoga here, but not consistently so I cannot really comment on those instructors. Everyone I've worked with has been very professional and polite though. The gym itself seems huge when you first come in, and I was very self conscious at first, preferring to stay in the tiny, unventilated women's gym for the first several months of my membership before finally moving to the main room. The machines are almost always available, though the gym tends to get busy at 5pm when everyone gets off work- which is why I try to get there by 430, which is also perfect timing to watch Jeopardy for the first half of my workout! ;) The weights and resistance machines seem to be well-spaced and members are good about putting things back where they belong. Machines are usually in good working order, and I really appreciate the individual TVs on the middle row of ellipticals- that's where you're most likely to find me! The locker rooms are spacious and there are private nooks available for those who want them. I prefer the locker rooms at this location to others I've found at the Bandera Pointe and 281 locations. I have not yet utilized the pools or the steam room/sauna, but will update my review when I do. The thing I want to rave about most in this (excessively long) review is the EMPLOYEES and AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE! In addition to great classes, the front desk staff and locker room staff are the best! I am on a first name basis with the majority of the employees here (Devin, Jesse, Derek, Marissa, Erin, and all the rest!) and I have to say that it really does make a difference in my approach to working out. I feel more of a sense of belonging to this gym than any other I've been to, and it also gives me a mental sense of accountability- I am here daily, and they know it and expect me, and when they don't see me due to a vacation or my "cheating" on them with another location, they notice my absence. I am beyond thrilled with the staff here and they are a large reason I continue to come back. Had there been staff turnover when the Golds transition took place, I likely would have left. The membership is pricey compared to other options available, but none of the people here and the convenience of location (for me) can't be beat. The classes are great, and I look forward to utilizing more of the amenities and resources available. This is the best gym and I truly look forward to going here each day!
