I was visiting beautiful Ogalala Nebraska this past August for a family reunion and was drawn into Fat Dogs by the lowest advertised fuel prices (approx 2.59). However, when I went to fuel the vehicle the price was 3.09. Believing this was a mistake, I fueled up and went into the cashier for a refund of about 5 bucks. As I asked for my refund, the blue-haired women yelled at me: "NO REFUNDS, THE CHEAP PUMP IS AROUND BACK, THERE ARE SIGNS EVERYWHERE SAYING SO." However, the blue-haired fuel saleswoman was incorrect there weren't signs everywhere, or anywhere for that matter. While I was only owed a refund of about 5 dollars, I happen to be an extremely principled individual who believes false advertising to be illegal (which it is). I looked up the relevant false advertising statute and lo and behold, Fat Dogs' pricing scheme is completely illegal under Nebraska Law. The next day wrote a strongly worded letter to Fat Dogs alleging the same and demanding a 5 dollar refund. Approximately 2 weeks later, I received a 5 dollar bill in the mail from FatDogs with no other explanation (I didn't notice any blue hair in the envelope, so I don't believe the fuel saleswoman I interacted with sent it). People, you don't have to put up with these illegal and frustrating practices. Fat Dogs has been sued multiple times for this deceptive pricing. Ever since Bill H. first reviewed this location a few years ago, Fat Dogs' illegal price advertising has caused countless drivers aggravation and you do not have to put up with it. Write a letter and get your refund, or better yet, go to another location and put this company out of business. read more

Avoid! They advertise a low price but only pumps 9 and 10 have it and it is only 86 octane. They hope you don't look at the price on the other pumps, which at currently 50 cents higher for "plus" which is only 87 octane. The 86 octane regular probably comes from the same tanks as the over priced 87 octane. Go to the TA next door and get 87 octane for a good price. read more

This place is a rip off and sneaky and if I could I'd give it less than 1 star. We pulled in to the pumps off I80 and filled up with the cheapest gas then was told that the regular unleaded is only on pump 1&2 & our gas would cost $.30 more per gallon. The manager pointed to some sign and said we should have read them and she's not responsible for how the owner does things. She was obviously not experienced in customer service. This gimmick is for out of town suckers like us that just go to the gas station and don't read a bunch of signs. We are so p.o.'d and notice we aren't the only ones disgusted with this place. Same experience as everyone else. Sign said 1.87, was charged 2.49 a gallon. When i complained, was told it was my fault for using the wrong pump, lol. They just don't care as a sucker comes off the interstate every few hours. If i were on the city council in Ogallala, i would certainly care. Yeah it's true. They really do have a hustle going on here. You see the signs that advertise cheap gas, then you're caught off guard by how weird and sketchy and confusing the place is. You can get cheap gas if you pay with cash but only at a few of the pumps off to the side, so you will probably have to move to one of those pumps. Then if you pay with card, it's 40-50cents more than advertised on the big signs. The pumps themselves have the actual price on them but you don't notice until you have already payed. And I didn't see any option providing the advertised price anywhere, so I'm sure you have to do something special to actually get it. After I realized what had happened I saw somebody else looking around for an explanation exactly the same way as I had been. Doing the math. Incredulous. The whole thing is pretty uncool but also pretty funny, and definitely gives me something to tell people about when I get done with this 1000 mile road trip across the boring plains states. Also never thought I would have a gas station experience that made me feel the need to write a dumb little review. Anywho, if anybody reads this they probably already had this happen to them and are mostly just looking for a little reassurance that they were in fact taken advantage of and not just being careless. so all in all I guess I'll just say... Big tall advertised gas sign, like at travel gas stations, advertised regular gas at $2.54, pulled to open pump, got gas and price was .55 higher. Turns out that their are sticker signs on the pumps that state only certain pump numbers are that price. I've never seen anything like that in my life. What a scam the owner has going. read more

Very deceptive practices. They list a price for gas on their sign high above the highway, but that is only available on select pumps. Those pumps either did not accept credit cards or wouldn't let you choose regular gas. The Walmart across the street was 40 cents/gallon cheaper. read more

False and negligent advertising. I used gas buddy to find least expensive gas while traveling in Nebraska. It showed Fat Dogs. I paid cash and went to pump - pics was significantly higher than what gas buddy indicates. It was much higher than their huge sign that you can see from the interstate. If I could go negative I would. Only pump 10 disburses the "Regular" gas that you see advertised. The other pumps only disburse premium at about 50 cents more in price. The trash cans were over flowing, the ladies restroom was so filthy with grimy floors, panty liner on the floor, overflowing trash bins, toilets that had lines of dirt running down them so bad it looked like they need to be scrapped to get clean. Looks like a Conoco sign is painted over to plain red. Lost franchisee due to bad business and cleanliness??? There are Sapp Bros, TA and Shell(?) stations at the same exit. It's a scam. BIG SIGN says the lower price. That's the price for regular gas. BUT those pumps are close to the semi truck pumps. All the pumps close to the store are for mid grade and premium...the HIGHER price. There is a small sign as you pull in that tells you which pumps have the lower prices...but it's still very irritating. read more

Be careful to read the pump prices before pumping. The large signs indicate a low fuel price that is only offered on a couple of pumps. You also have to beware of the octane ratings as the fuel labels can be deceptive. read more

The sign above the station said $1.94 per gallon, when I pulled up to the pumps I saw $2,56, $2.66, and $2.76 depending on the grade. I wasn't sticking around to be scammed! Went to another station and they said only one pump at this place is priced for the advertised amount, the rest are all set very high to trick people that aren't paying attention. Well, they lost about $60 in gas sales for my SUV and about another $15 to $20 in snacks and drinks while we were travelling. This review is probably repeating what's wrong with this gas station, but I caught the ripoff before I pumped any gas. Ogallala, NE is situated where if you headed west on I-80, you won't see many gas stations until reaching Denver, CO, especially at night. It is a distance of 213 miles. There is a sign that states Regular Gas available at pumps 9 & 10, but most people don't notice it. The tall signs shows the price of regular one price and then there isn't any regular gas at Pumps 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8, but you are welcome to spend the extra money for a higher octane premium gas. If this Conoco Gas Station is busy, then it's difficult at best to get to Pumps 9 & 10 because those are the pumps that everyone needs. 74% of the cars in this country use regular gas. Sound like a rip-off, yet? It is!!!! I just went to another gas station. This should be changed by someone in Ogallala of some power or better yet just write the Better Business Bureau. The BBB will give your email/letter to the Owner of this Company and they are required by BBB to respond to "your letter" by email. You, in turn, let the BBB if you are satisfied by their response. I believe this is what I will do. Somewhere I will bet the BBB will give them bad marks, because I don't see them changing. read more

Felt like a bait and switch to me. Long line of gas pumps with the prices no where near the advertised $1.94/gal. I did finally chase down pump #10 and got their 85 octane regular gas. (Available only on the last island as far as I could tell). Leaves you with the feeling that someone is trying hard to cheat you with a slight of hand trick. Technically they do offer gas at the advertised price so they can legally advertise it. But the rest just smells. read more
