Fun place to check out. Outsdoor eating too. I tried the Cuban sandwich. Loved the pickles but next time would opt for no mustard, I am just not a fan if fancy mustard. Give me my cheap yellow stuff, lol. Also had the Tamales, got 6 so we could enjoy more at home. Good flavor! Fun thing about Tameles are, everyone makes them different, so hard to go wrong. Great food glad some recommened if when they heard we were heading to Natchez. The Fire and Ice pickles were as good as promised. We bought a jar to take home. Ok, so this isn't going to be a fair review because a restaurant with the name Fat Mama's Tamales was out of tamales when I came for dinner on a Tuesday night. Sorry, but have to knock one star for that. ‍ Anyways, I ended up ordered the taco soup and my SO ordered the chili. Also had to try the Knock-You-Naked margarita (strawberry) to see if it actually would work. When they brought the food to the table we had a hard time telling the difference between the soup and the chili. Finally, after much digging around in the bowl, turns out the soup has a little less meat and corn in it. Otherwise, they look and taste similar. Which was really good! We got some hot sauce to put in it just to spice it up a bit but it had great flavor. Also had to try the Fire and Ice pickles. They are good. Basically they are just sweet and spicy pickles. The margarita was good. Not mind blowing but good. It's just a basic margarita with strawberry flavor added to the bottom. Have to mix it up a bit to find the strawberries. The Gringo Pie is what I was looking forward to trying but since they were out of tamales I'll just have to try again whenever I come back through. COVID 19: customers are required to wear masks until seated. Hand sanitizer is available at the counter where you order your food and pay. Tables are spread out and they do have patio seating. Website says they are limiting capacity to 50%. read more

Quick friendly service, great food and a cool vibe. FYI though they do not serve tamales all day. We waited until noon even though they opened at 11 but the tamales wouldn't be available for a couple hours. We got regular nachos to snack on until we came back. They were ehh. I came for the tamales. Being from New Mexico I have had many tamales, but in the style where they are steamed in the husk. These delta style tamales are different in that they are boiled, smaller, and a little more spicy. I ordered the gringo pie, 3 tamales covered with Texas style chili, cheese, and onions. Although not as good as the tamales back home( I am biased of course) these delta style ones are addictive! I will definitely be back the next time I pass through. read more

We make a point to visit FMT every time we come to Natchez. I always order the gringo pie (tamales covered in chili, cheese and onions). And it's always good. Servers are always friendly and happy to help out with choices. Not sure what the building used to be, but like most of the places in downtown Natchez it's filled with decor from the old days. I wouldn't wear a suit to eat here. You'll look out of place even more than usual. The only reason I gave four stars instead of five is because I collect their 22 oz plastic cups every year when I come to town...but they were out of stock on the day I visited. Bummer! Walked in and didn't know what to do so a customer told us to order at the counter and seat ourselves. The staff here either really hate their jobs or they just don't like white people (which the dining room was full of) No asking how we were doing or saying thank you and a dour frown on their faces the entire time they took our order. Tamales - 4 star Boudin - 5 star Tamales wrapped in corn husk, uniform in shape and size. The meat was well seasoned and tasty, but a little dry - (no sauce). Could have had a little more meat to masa ratio, and a little too hot for me. Boudin - Unable to cut casing with plastic knife (rubber). We tried this place last night when we were in the area. There were a bunch of people on the deck/patio so we thought it would be good. Their drinks must be their selling point. As you can see in the menu photos, they don't have much food to offer. We ordered: 1 dozen Tamales 1 Boudin 1 Taco Soup 1 Gringo Pie The tamales were ok. They only have one type; beef. Considering this is what they're known for, I'd expect them to have more options, and I'd expect them to be amazing. The boudin is naturally not made there. It was fine, and the pickles were better than I expected. The taco soup really was decent for a restaurant. While not as good as what we make at home, it is some of the better restaurant taco soup I've had. We added salt and pepper, but it could have used a little garlic. The cornbread quarter that came with it was decent as well. Little greasy, but it's just due to the ingredients. The gringo pie could have used more flavor. We added salt and pepper, but it still lacked something. If we were in the area again then we might consider eating here, but we wouldn't go out of our way. read more

I was visiting Natchez and had an opportunity to stop by this restaurant. The first lady that took my order was super friendly - nothing out of the ordinary, but friendly non the less. When I went to place an additional order, the second cashier - a younger girl - was extremely rude. She did everything she could to not acknowledge I was standing almost right in front of her with my card in hand. She then even started to mumble under her breath when I made my way, only 2 steps, to her register. The most frustrating part was she took the order of the guy standing directly behind me while I was standing there waiting. It's a really nice restaurant with awesome drinks, but some of their staff are extremely unprofessional. It was a really unfortunate situation because I will now probably never return. read more

We went to Natchez this past weekend. Of course, there was the "must do" stop at Fat Mama's! I got a dozen tamales which were absolutely delicious! I'd missed my tamales. No way could I eat all of them at one time, so I had the other six for lunch on Saturday! Ha! If you are in the Natchez area, I highly recommend stopping by this cute little place. This place has got a great vibe. We sat outside on a 90 degree day and tried the tamales. We started with a 1/2 dozen but they were so good we went back for another 1/2! The workers were lovely and fun. We also tried the fire & ice pickles. We loved them so much we bought some for us and some for gifts. Would definitely try this place again! read more
