You can actually go inside the apple and climb to the top for a view of the entire area. There are also stalls in the front selling fresh apples and produce, restaurants and cafes, boutique shops selling fresh fudge and cider. They also have a bunch of family attractions like mini golf, rides, and a petting zoo. Perhaps, what they are most known for is their bakery selling fresh apple pies, apple bread, cider, fritters and variety of seasonal baked goods. There is also an open-kitchen display window so you can watch how they bake their products. We decided to eat at the smoke house restaurant. A full rack of ribs, fries and a blooming onion costed $55. The ribs were flavorful and tender but I thought fries and onion were just very average and overpriced. I would skip those next time. Since I was watching my sugar intake, I skipped out on the more popular items and opted for a few scones and muffins for the drive back home. The scones were so rich, buttery and very crumbly on the outside with a dense interior. It was so savory and delicious. The muffins were very good as well and to my surprise wasn't too sweet. This was such a charming little town. I would definitely come back again next time I drive eastward. I think their bakery items are really good and were very reasonable in price. I'll try their famous apple fritter and apple bread next time I come back.

The apple pie is quite nice and has a tartness to it for the no added sugar version and I also prefer it cold/fridge. Some prefer it hot and warmed up with ice cream which is an excellent option as well. The butter tarts were also surprisingly nice, gooey in the center with a nice light pie crust. I wouldn't recommend the apple fritter or the apple & strawberry fritter - mine was a bit too much dough, dense and a tad dry and mot to my preference. The store also has some souvenirs to purchase as well as a few hot foot options too if you're passing by and want a touristy type of feel which I quite enjoy. There's also a lot of tour busses that stop here which makes sense as it's a nice quick stop right off the highway.

The white wine steamed mussels ($18) were plentiful and served with pieces of crusty bread to help sop up the broth. My pan seared pickerel ($18) tasted very fresh and was perfectly cooked. It was served in a butter sauce with grilled asparagus and zucchini. The prices here are reasonable with most food items coming to less than $25. They have a number of great local wine and cider options. I would definitely recommend dining at this lovely restaurant if you're in the county.

There are two major highlights that put this market into a league of it's own. 1- There is a French Canadian lady selling home made pies. OMG this was amoung the best pies I've ever had. We went for a berry pie. It was loaded, I mean loaded, with a thick layer of filling made from fresh local berries. YOu could see whole berries right there before your eyes. The crust was to die for and it was just all around awesome. 2- And this was the real highlight! The community had come together to sponsor a refugee family from Syria to settle in PEC. The family started a food service business. They make hummus and other middle eastern spreads as well as pitas and chips. At the market they offer a falafel plate. OMG these are hands down the best falafels that I've ever had. Light, crispy, flavourful, so amazing!! These are not in anyway comparable to the falafels that you might have eaten elsewhere. The taste and texture are so much better. Honestly I'd go back to PEC just for the falafels and so should you.... I'd also buy 8 pies while I was there ;-)
