Surprisingly, the croquette was hot, as if it had just been cooked and served. The creamy filling was delicious, and the breadcrumb coating was very crunchy. It was really good! I wish we had this type of vending machine in our hometown. It was a unique experience, and I would love to go back and try different items.

I was pleased to see clearly marked vegetarian items and elected to try the two they had in the location we visited. I literally had no idea what to do at first and sweat beaded on my forehead as I tried to not look like an absolute imbecile in front of the crowd that was in there. I felt their judgmental glare. I slipped my chosen items out of the window and stacked them on top of each other. We had a dessert stop to make on the way so the consumption of our treasure would have to wait. I do wish there is an option to have some sort of enclosed container for portability. When I finally was able to sink my teeth into it, it was one of the best things I've ever had. Don't ask me what I ordered because god only knows but both blobs were breaded with a very crispy crust and filled with a delicious filling. One of them is cheese, I'm pretty sure. I really had to harness all of my willpower to not destroy them immediately but they were meant to be a snack tomorrow on our way to the tulips. I will be going back again before we depart. It's the most classic Dutch sandwich bar I have found in town, and almost everything is homemade. I think this is my favorite classic Dutch "fast food" restaurant in Amsterdam, mainly because my mother grew up in Holland and she always used to talk about eating steak tartare broodje with hard boiled egg, onion and mayonnaise in the 1950s. Their homemade steak tartare broodje is outstanding. The homemade Dutch pea soup is only available during cold months and it's also fabulous. In summer they have a mushroom soup, but I haven't tried it yet. If you wanna be really Dutch, order a glass of buttermilk with your broodjie. They also have regular milk and lots of soft drinks. It's just classic and delcious traditional Dutch food; really good and so fresh and you can watch it being made. Everyone that works here is also so nice. Try the kipsaté croquette which tastes like a Thai saté stick. Don't forget the yellow mustard. The server may tell you it makes it taste even better. So fun to sit at the bar counter inside, and they do have a few tables outside for sunny days. I love the decor, the funny expressions about croquettes on the tiles, and the super 1950s black-and-white photos from the restaurant on the walls. This is such a wonderful place and every time I come to Amsterdam I make a pilgrimage here. It's also on a really nice and slightly diagonal street, right in the city center, that still has its old charm. They have the full menu and also a small "classics" menu; one thing I've never tried, but would like to next time, is the curry chicken salad.
