    Breakfast!

Incredible location, great food. Charming location. Definitely worth an early morning while you stay in the city. A lot of servers and service in Spain can be short and they tend to do the bare minimum but the man who was our server here (in glasses) was kind and brought some very welcomed energy. Go upstairs and catch a view over the plaza. Quiet up there and plenty of room for 4-5 people to sit comfortably.

The one and only time we visited Federal, they kept us waiting for our food so long that we actually considered just leaving, as we had an appointment elsewhere.  Just as we were leaving our food came out, so we stayed and ate. While the food wasn't bad, it certainly wasn't worth close to a one-hour wait!  Wait times that long are simply inexcusable, especially since during the time we were there, the restaurant was nearly empty... To add insult to injury, the level of service was definitely sub-par, and our server was actually rude when we asked her about when our food might arrive.  Bottom line: decent food doesn't justify excessive wait times and sub-par service.  There are lots of other places to get breakfast in Barcelona; I recommending skipping this place and finding another venue.

Came here for breakfast before our first full day at Barcelona. Everything was delicious. I ordered the Eggs Benedict with bacon and my wife ordered the chorizo with eggs. Also added a mocha and a croissant. We came here around 9 am but got crowded around 10 am. Service was great and food was presented beautifully

Wonderful, modern cafe and staff with good vibes. Delicious food and mocha lattes - we've returned several times during our visit to Barcelona!

Items Selected: Americano, Iced Coffee with Sugar and Cream Chocolate Caramel Bar, Apple Streusel Cake, Raspberry Coconut Cake Serrano, Comte and Basil Croissant Warm Ginger-Banana-Hazelnut Bread with Whipped Espresso Butter Located within walking distance of ARTiSA, its address at Passatge de la Pau 11 in Barri Gòtic making the restaurant quite popular with international visitors, it was in continuation of Breakfast that two guests sat down at Federal Café just past 10h00 on Saturday, the menu offering everything from Avocado Toast to Pancakes easily the most "American" found in Barcelona, the fact that Federal Café is part of a chain with locations in several Spanish cities only found out later, but really not surprising. Intended to reminisce of a city in Australia where "there's not much to do but dream, and watch the rain fall on quiet streets and the phonebox," an odd description for the open floor-planned space with modern design and a soundtrack playing Silversun Pickups at a volume that can be heard outside, it was after perusing the Pastry Case that the decision was made to take a seat and although the place fairly busy for the weekend service was mostly efficient, Coffee and Pastries delivered in less than ten minutes with hot items from the kitchen ready in about twenty. Celebrated by fans for the exact reason that diners seeking authenticity may wish to forgo a visit, the menu not remotely 'Spanish,' it was with high hopes of seeing how an Australian 'idea' planted in Europe would execute foods from back home that first bites were taken of the Jammy Coconut Cake that tasted wholly natural and thus mild but elegant while the Apple Strudel unfortunately went a bit too heavy on the buttery Crumbs and thus came across one-dimensional and heavy, though not in a good way like the Chocolate Caramel Bar which was essentially a wedge of soft Toffee topped in a thin layer of Ganache. Breaking up the sweets with one savory, "Neck of the Woods" still playing loudly overhead from beginning to end, it was with a far better base than at ARTiSA that Federal Café built it's Breakfast Sandwich with a thin layer of Serrano, lightly melted Comte and a Basil Leaf, the Croissant maintaining its crunchy exterior atop soft layers while the griddled Banana Bread was moist and delicious with plenty of spice notes and lightly sweetened Espresso Butter.

This was an amazing find in the middle of an unassuming street. Good coffee, GREAT food. The avocado toast was perfectly ripe and just the right amount of crunch. The salmon was perfect while the poached eggs oozed just the way they were supposed to. Truly, if you have a brunch or lunch in Barcelona, make this one of your stops. Price is about average but nothing outrageous.

Federal was our first stop in Barcelona and it was soo good! The place is really clean and has great energy. The service was fast and friendly! The food was amazing and also had a lot of vegetarian options so I'm happy we picked this place to eat! Definitely will be coming back!

After a couple days of tapas and gazpacho, we were ready for some cafe food. After a little map confusion, we found this Federal location tucked down a quiet lane. The mellow atmosphere was a nice break from the tourist hubbub and the food was delicious. I ordered the Hippie, a veggie burger. I often avoid these on menus as so many are frozen tasteless things, but this one was delicious--perhaps one of the best I've had out. My husband was delighted by his BLAT sandwich, everything from bread to bacon of excellent quality. We finished by sharing a slice of their orange cake--I can't recommend this enough. Overall, we were both very impressed. We weren't expecting typical cafe food to be one our favorite meals in Barcelona but the simple goodness of the ingredients and flavors might just put it very near the top of our list.

Yes! It is that good. The food-excellent: fresh avocados, spinach and mushrooms generously served. The chorizo- not fatty and tasty. Eggs! Our multi-special request order was up in minutes! The service- fantastic: we had one of those pushy "people" trying to get seated ahead of us, despite us having checked in and patiently waiting. A woman brushed past me, attempting to seat herself and her husband easily twice her age, and the waiter graciously pointed out we were waiting. Recognizing we were Americans, the woman argued in Spanish, and the waiter politely apologized, and explained she would simply have to wait. Impeccable class! - the waiter, that is. The best breakfast I've had in months!

I had really looked forward to try Federal's Eggs Florentine, after drooling to all the pictures here on Yelp, so I got extremely disappointed when I found out they didn't have in on the lunch menu. Maybe they only serves it in the weekend, but I was either going to try that or the avocado course, but none of them were available. Even so, there were a lot of good alternatives on the menu, and I went for Reuben, a sandwich with ham, emmentaler, fermented red cabbage, with potato chips on the side. The dish was really good, especially the emmentaler cheese was just perfect. I just wished it was a little more food on the plate, for 9 euros, I think to slices of bread and 4 potato chips is quite little food. For me, Federal would probably be a food place for some breakfast, their breakfast menu looks really good, but for lunch, the portions aren't big enough to cover for their prices, in my opinion. Then again, if the Egg Florentine had been on the menu, maybe my review would be different.

Oven-baked eggs with bacon. Absolutely delicious!

This place is amazing. I ordered the oven-baked eggs with bacon and my wife ordered the morning burger. Both were absolutely delicious! Service is great

Iced coffee comes standard with milk and sugar so if you're vegan or lactose you'll need to ask for a replacement.

Problem was, I tried to get reservations 7 months out and they were fully booked. So on the waitlist I went. Then my phone rings in Los Angeles at 3:30 am 2 months later. My wife is panicked like some emergency is happening....I spring awake as I hear Disfrutar on the other end, asking me if I could make a cancelation they just had on one of my dates I requested. Wow, best phone call I ever got in the middle of the night. So glad I happened to leave my cell next to my bed and forgot to silence it, The Foodie Gods work in mysterious ways. 1. Frozen Passionfruit Lady Finger with rum 2. Drop of rose petal water, then lychee frozen raspberry, followed by drop of rose petal water. Beet macaron that dissolves in your mouth like cotton candy. 3. They call it a "panchino" I would describe it as a baked Chinese bao bun filled with caviar and crème fresh. Served with truffle vodka. 4. Solid bubbles of smoked butter with caviar, the magnifying glass to appreciate the detail of the smoked butter, and the little person on the paper is a reminder to look towards th. It even has a shadow as it is a tiny pop up book. 5. Gazpacho sandwich. Rather than being soft, it had the texture of a light meringue, which left the familiar flavor of the traditional soup. Served with a scent of vinegar spray for you to smell before each bite 6. Deconstructed Gilda Pintxo with marinated mackerel. We were shown a photo of a traditional Gilda prior to being served theirs. Of course there was a surprise as the "olive" kind of exploded in your mouth and wasn't really an olive at all. 7. Flourless Coca (Catalan pastry) with Escalivada (Catalan relish of eggplant, peppers, onions, tomatoes, oil) and anchovy crème. The golden "caviar" on top was droplets of olive oil that burst nicely in your mouth. 8. Crunchy mushroom leaf. This had the intense flavor of a porcini mushroom soup, and incredibly delicate. 9. Crispy egg yolk with warm porcini and trumpet mushroom gelatin. Bite through the tempura, pour the yolk into the cup and eat side by side with the mushroom gelee. 10. Oxygenated mushroom broth with oyster mushroom and succulent. It tasted like cactus, meh. But everything else was delicious. 11. Multispherical pesto with pistachios and smoked eel. An iconic dish. Those aren't peas, it's a string of green pearls of pesto that turn into sauce to mix with the Parmesan sauce and smoked eel. 12. Macaroni alla carbonara. The clear pasta has the texture of pasta but is made with beef gelatin to add a nice extra flavor to each bite. This was one intense Parmesan cheesy cream sauce. 13. Liquid Salad and tomato Polvoron (which had a light spongy texture like a fine creamy chocolate) Olive oil pearls made a return on the tomato cookie. 14. Suquet fish stew deconstructed Hake White fish, with potato gnocchi saffron, parsley foam, potato cappuccino. A traditional Catalan dish in an untraditional way. 15. The Goose that laid the golden eggs: fried egg of crustacean. Fried egg white with a golden "egg yolk" that was actually a Thai red sweet chili crab sauce. With Thai peanut sauce, cilantro, shrimp, this is a very familiar flavor profile. 16. Multi spherical tatin of corn and foie. This is an illusion. You try to pick up a mirrored version of the dish. Beautiful sweet corn flavor offsetting the earthiness of the foie on a light crispy corn base. 17. Squab with amasake kombu spaghetti, rice sauce, almond sauce, and grape. Kombu is a Japanese edible kelp. Working the sauces from inside to out, grape at the end led towards the desert portion of the evening. 18. Served with a smoked apple cider, you crack a walnut, inside you wil find a small manchego cheese cube. As you reflect on how inedible the walnut shell is, the next dish.... 19. Musings on Walnuts. Disfrutar has found a way to make the walnut shell edible, fairly soft and left marinating in various ways over time to break down the shell and infusing it with various flavors without completely losing the walnut taste. The Idiazabal cheese foam held everything together. 20. Hoisin Cucumber. Candied pork rind, cucumber granita with mint. Like eating a mojito with a crunchy sweet hoisin sauce pork rind. Might be the best dish of the night. 21. Black sesame cornet. The next layers had strawberry and crème. Very delicate, eat it quick before it breaks into shards. 22. Black apple with noisette butter ice cream and flourless puff pastry. The black apple...they show you the aging process at different stages. They serve it at 60 months at which point it is kind of a brown fleshy goop, but such an intense flavor, almost booze like in nature, served warm and with butter ice cream. 23. The staff was wonderful, providing impeccable and attentive service that goes above and beyond the standard of hospitality. I thought the restaurant design was beautiful, and while the space is narrow and deep, the décor is light and contemporary, which makes for a great atmosphere. We share similar tastes, so my friend and I each ate the same dishes. We started with a taste of cauliflower cream, with pea shoots and crushed nuts. The cream was smooth and the nuts added a crunchy texture. The local asparagus with sheep's cheese cream and herbs was fresh and earthy, the vegetable tender and not tough, while the cream was salty and seasoned with the right mix of herbs. We also tried eggs and potato riojana style, and the flavors really gave a sense of the famous region of Spain. During the main course, we enjoyed fresh fish from the local market, with fresh green peas, chanterelle and saffron, which added a beautiful dose of color. We also loved the dish of local sheep, pumpkin, egg and cheese, as the texture provided an outstanding mouthfeel and is the epitome of local comfort food. For dessert, the server recommended the specialty chickpea fritters with cream, which use the traditional Catalonian chickpea flour. Deelish! Although there is a nice variety in their menu, the four of us selected the same two main courses: El Buen Rollo (Gołąbek), a large cabbage roll stuffed with nicely seasoned ground beef and rice, covered with a somewhat sweet tomato sauce. Each order came with two rolls. Each one was more than enough for one meal! Kopernik Was Right (Kiełbasa) was spicy and came in a bed of sauerkraut, on top of mashed potatoes. Pure comfort food! We finished off with a slab of their Polish-style cheesecake - and yes, one slab was enough for the four of us. Even the coffee was perfect!
