I think the Church has been a welcoming place for Burmese Refugees, who seem to be incorporated into the life of the church. Not quite sure what sort of Baptist Church it is. They also have Godly play for preschool age kids on Wednesday evening after their Wednesday dinners. The Church is not liturgical like Methodist, Catholic, or Episcopal churches. More liturgical than non-denominational churches I have been to.

Our Company chose a few programs throughout Hampton Roads and I chose coming to the Foodbank. What an eye-opener. Very organized, clean and offers a variety of volunteer spots for everyone. The back pack program for the kids is unbelievable but sadly not enough to feed all the hungry children. I felt so humbled by the entire program. Everyone should volunteer or give to this phenomenal program.

Maryland Food Bank thrives off of weekend volunteer hours for packers in their conveyor belt area to box canned goods and boxed foods as they'd otherwise have to bill these hours to payroll. I enjoyed myself and even got in a little cardio as the belt moved more and more foodstuffs through. I was in charge of canned veggies and boy were there lots of them. It was a good time and I can't wait to go back!

They take your information and you bear your soul only to be told, "we can't help you". Instead of calling the individual like they say they will within 24-48 hours, you hear absolutely nothing. I would NEVER treat ANYONE that needed assistance in this manner, but I guess this is what happens when you have no compassion or empathy. As far as suggestions go, there were NONE. I pray GOD uses me to be a better vessel to do works for ALL PEOPLE, not select individuals.

You may want to research other thrifts in the area. This location also does financial assistance. The phone calls are only taken on Mondays at 8:30 a.m. They only help with rent that is only a month over due, Dominion Energy, gas and oil. They help with wood during winter months. There is a high volume of calls so you have to remain patient. Dial 0 to get directly to operator because it will incorrectly tell you to dial a 1 or some other number. If applying for DE (Dominion Energy) or gas financial assistants please have the account number ready to give to receptionist when you call it makes the process smoother. They usually have funding for the city of Richmond only but occasionally there is funding for both Chesterfield county and Henrico county.
