I enjoy that it's right in the park so there are quite a few benches to sit on. There are also fun paths to explore with a warm drink and yummy snacks. I highly recommend ordering goodies from the vendors then having a picnic in Forest Hill Park. On my recent visit, I bought some rainbow carrots, acorn squash, spaghetti squash, fennel, and Europa fresh bread. As it gets colder there can be fewer vendors, but they carry everything you could hope and dream of. I loved checking out a vendor that sold holiday candles. There is tons of parking here and it's easy to bike or bus to. I'd recommend checking this market out.

The bike sculpture is a hidden gem that was commissioned by Richmond artist John Meola, whose talent for repurposing salvage materials gave new life to what would have otherwise been scrap and so every angle that you look at reveals another bicycle frame wheel handlebar or gear so it's a fun place to stop with you're looking to get a photograph or you're a cyclist or just appreciate imaginative craftmanship. This is more than just a sculpture it's a symbol of sustainability creativity and Richmond's long-standing connection to cycling.

We arrived at about 2:30 PM on a sunny but not roasting Saturday afternoon. From the street, there appears to be a lot of items for sale, but once you're inside the area, you can see that most of the booths are vacant. I'm new to the area so I don't know what used to go on pre-2010 (when more positive reviews existed on Yelp), but the overall market was a bit underwhelming. That's not to say that a few of the vendors didn't have some nice looking produce and items. There was one stand that had a myriad of produce available including tomatoes, peaches, figs, peppers, and other fresh looking items. The prices seemed fair too, and if we were in a produce-y mode, I'd have purchased some. There was also a few homemade craft and jewelry stands that had some nice looking items, although I didn't see the prices. Some of the stands weren't quite as impressive. There was a stand that had a few different peppers in small quantities and one that had about 20 kid's books. I think it's neat that there are a range of items, but I'm not sure how many people are going to think to check a Farmer's Market for kid's books. Overall: If I were in the area again I'd check to see what items existed, but I just wasn't blown away. It seemed like a perfect day to be out selling things, yet the majority of the area was vacant. I can't compare it to other Farmer's Markets in the area since I have yet to experience any, but my opinion on 17th Street's so far is "A-OK".

Attached to the Diversity Thrift store, the center is a space for the greater Richmond community, of all sexual orientations, gender identifies, and faiths, to gather. As a nonprofit the space is donated for free to various events such as fundraisers, support groups, board meetings, play rehearsals, and worship services. It was the space where the community gathered for a vigil and memorial for the Pulse Nightclub victims in 2016, and will be hosting the inaugural Black Pride RVA this upcoming weekend. It also donates shoes and clothing to LGBTQ folks in need, particularly youth and those facing homelessness.
