Feel the Beat is a remarkable place and space for young students to learn in a truly accessable, inclusive, culturally competent and sensitive way. The studio is open to all students but centers Deaf , Hard of Hearing, and youth of, with various learning styles and conditions / abilities. I was blessed to experience and witness first hand the handful of times I got to volunteer and knowing families and educators affiliated with the school. Jari and her team are so patient, and knowledgeable about dance, movement, music, Deaf Culture, Autism, classroom management and more. This unique school is unlike any I've seen or experienced before. There's something so special and beautiful about the instruction, and community that's co-created there. As a Day Program Manager for young adults with special needs, Feel the Beat has been an amazing partner organization throughout the pandemic. When we were in the height of the Pandemic, Feel the Beat adapted their sessions to be provided virtually so that our participants could still receive dance instruction every other week. Since things opened up and we were able to do sessions in person, Feel the Beat has found space that allows everyone to participate while maintaining social distancing. The instructor has a background of working with people with disabilities and she individualizes instruction to meet the unique needs of each of our participants. My girls LOVE Feel the Beat as well as Julia and Jari who are the co-founders. My youngest (age 2) started out not liking it because she has never took a class before. With extra patience and time, both of my girls takes off their shoes as soon they're enter in the building -- ready to dance!! It's not only their physical development but they have gain mental challenges and lifetime friends. I, as a Deaf mom, was able to have full access in ASL communication is an extra bonus and opens my world. I was able to join a couple adult classes. I am not a dancer at all but this little cardio workout in my schedule and break the sweat for an hour is a bonus to my lifestyle. read more

Feel the Beat allows my Deaf children to enjoy music and learn to dance with their special technical dance floor that allows the kids to feel along with the music better than a regular dance floor. The teachers are also accessible by being able to sign to the kids! My kids love this place, my daughter also started to learn ballet during the pandemic and it was her escape of stress and isolation. She really enjoyed having a teacher that she can directly communicate with and was able to develop bonding skills. She can't wait until the classes are back once they have a new location! read more

This is an AMAZING Dance Studio for kids that need a little extra TLC. I had the greatest 5th birthday party for my daughter with Down Syndrome at Feel the Beat! I seriously LOVES Feel The Beat and haven't went there since last Spring 2018 because of my school and internship going on. My daughter, Ember had been doing some dancing at home and drumming because of them and she keeps tell me that she misses them. When I am done with my school I sure will come back there with Ember! This is an amazing nonprofit organization! The dance classes are specifically designed for deaf and hard of hearing children and adults. The classes use American Sign Language (ASL) and a specially engineered vibrating dance floor to teach kids to feel the music. read more
