Her experience was one of the most frustrating and disappointing interactions with a physician that our family has ever encountered. Dr. Spearing's bedside manner was consistently poor. He often seemed dismissive of concerns, unwilling to listen, and lacking in basic follow-through. One of the most unbelievable and recurring issues was his habit of leaving the exam room, saying he would return, and then never coming back. This happened so frequently that my mother eventually addressed it directly during an appointment. As he was preparing to leave the room, she told him that he had a habit of saying he would come back and then never returning. His response was, "I promise, promise I'll be right back." He then walked out and never came back. My mother was absolutely stunned. To have that happen immediately after it was brought to his attention was both shocking and incredibly unprofessional. Another incident that raised serious concerns involved blood work. My mother specifically asked about her blood sugar results and was told everything was fine. She later discovered that her blood sugar had not even been tested. Learning that he had provided reassurance about something that apparently had not been checked completely eroded our confidence in the care being provided. There also seemed to be constant turnover among the nursing staff. Nearly every appointment involved a different nurse, making it difficult to establish any consistency or continuity of care. Patients deserve a physician who listens, communicates clearly, follows through on commitments, and treats people with respect. Unfortunately, that was not my mother's experience. She frequently left appointments feeling dismissed, frustrated, and unheard. Based on what our family experienced, I would not recommend Dr. Spearing to anyone seeking attentive, patient-centered medical care.

The staff here is super friendly and we love talking with them. My significant other comes at least once a month to get regular coumadin checks and sometimes sees James for a bevy of other health problems. Their office is really cute and it's in a quaint building. In the waiting room they have a big screen TV, fish tank, magazines. Another good thing about this place is there is no high overhead. The doctor is very reasonable to see. $60 dollars a visit is a great price for the uninsured.

Most of the time I went in for very minor things and all went smoothly. The staff is very friendly and super duper helpful! But, unfortunately, I stopped seeing Dr. James after a certain incident. I have chronic bronchitis, and get really bad chest/lung infections. I was having symptoms of a chest infection so I went into see the doctor. He listened to my chest front and back, and recommended I go home and rest while taking some Vitamin C. I knew that my lungs were very susceptible to infection and that there was something seriously wrong and asked for an antibiotic. He said he could write me one for Vitamin C. Later that day I went to East County Urgent Care and they did chest x-rays. I had pneumonia, and one of my lungs was nearly filled with fluid. The other was beginning to fill. I never went back.

Just a quick note to say I'm knocked out by the dedication that you and your colleagues are showing in the face of extraordinary risk and what must seem, at times, intolerable stress. You have my admiration and my gratitude. Moreover, "hero" is an often inappropriately-used term, but as it derives from the Greek (h?r?s) - literally "protector" or "defender" - I feel confident in referring to you as such. Blush if you like, but please don't respond. You're too busy. Omar

I am happy to see that he has made the list four years in a row now. He does not make you feel rushed and answers any and all questions. He explains things without making you feel like you need to change this and this about your lifestyle, even though it is implied that you really should try to take better care of yourself. He even answers questions unrelated to your situation if asked. His support staff is adequate, not overly friendly but definitely not rude or mean. He also tries to help make prescriptions less costly if he can.
