It was getting late and was looking for something quick and easy. It was basically a line of restaurants and decided to try Fely J's coz we were feeling something local with a twist. The staff were very friendly. The drinks were good. We asked for recommendations and they recommended the special sinigang (basically sinigang with watermelon.) To be honest, there really wasnt anything special about it. It tasted just like a regular sinigang; the watermelon didnt make any difference at all to the taste. We started with lumpiang sariwa and it was good. We also ordered bistek, which also good. All in all, it was a good experience. The food were good. The staff was good. Would I come back? If given the opportunity.

If there's one Filipino restaurant I would keep coming back, it would definitely be Fely J's Kitchen. My friend recommended this place since I came back home from the States so it was my first time to try this restaurant. Food was amazing, we ordered crispy pata, dilis rice, gule magalang, sinigang na bangus belly in Guava and the famous secreto ni Maria dessert. I was blown away and impressed because they were all delicious! Service was fast and the inside of the restaurant is decent but nothing too fancy.

A unique take on Filipino food. Liked the dishes but not enough to make me crave them. Although it is good but not that great.

Crunchy Paco. (Fern Salad) The best.

Fern salad? Oh yes. I can eat tons of it and so learning that this restaurant serves such fiddlehead fern,I must go. I was brought here by my bff who has been a fan of EVERYTHING in the Fely J's menu or I just say, she's another foodie. The place is elegantly decorated with modern Filipino artwork and the music was playing KUNDIMAN (traditional Filipino love songs),I think that was cute. The fern salad(ENSALADANG PAKO) was tasty but a little too sweet for me. I could have eaten 2 plates. GISING GISING(Kangkong stew in coconut milk),Kangkong is water spinach in English,a little spicy but just right. This food was super rich in flavor that anyone would be asking for "extra rice please!" but we tried to skip the rice. PRAWN CURRIED WITH KAMIAS(or you can jungle the words) was the best. The prawns were cooked perfectly and the curry sauce was flawless! Wowzers. Staff. Yes,they were attentive and polite. Not over friendly. Bathroom. Clean and smells clean. Not sure who's Fely J. but I enjoyed the food so much. Salamat po!

I became a fan of Fely J after trying their awesome bistek tagalog!!! Ang sarap!!!! Actually, pretty much everything I had at Fely J is quite tasty, you will not get disappointed. I've had a few different dishes but for me bistek tagalog is absolutely to die for! With bistek tagalog and sisig fried rice, I'm already in heaven.....mmmmm!! Since I grew up in Manila, I felt like one of the balikbayans craving for the Pinoy comfort food after many years of being away from the motherland. Fely J has a wide selection of typical Pinoy food ranging from sinigang soup, pancit, ginataang, kare kare, adobo, etc. I also like the homeyness of the place, the ambiance is relaxed and casual despite the upscale shi-shi Greenbelt location. The price is reasonable, we ate like pigs with appetizers, entrees, and dessert and we paid about P800 each.

The Sikreto ni Maria Clara is a essentially puto maya ala mode - suman, mango, topped with macapuno ice cream.

Fely J's restaurant is name after the wife of Larry Cruz, of the LJC Group of restaurants. The food here is Asianfusion/modern Filipino which gives both Filipinos and foreigners a new yet familiar way to enjoy Pinoy cuisine. The signature rice dish - dilis rice, for example, is reminiscent of the nasi lemak of Indonesia. The dessert Sikreto ni Maria Clara is the traditional puto maya (suman and mango) hidden underneath a heap of macapuno ice cream. It is pricey but the food is great! We recently took a Japanese client who wanted to have Filipino food here and she enjoyed the meal immensely. We made her try sisig, gising-gising, tilapia, and adobo, plus maja blanca, halohalo, and ube ice cream. I think Fely J's would be an ideal restaurant to take foreigner friends to! Tip: come earlier than the normal meal times as it can get packed. We arrived at exactly 12 and were seated right away, but fifteen minutes later there already was a queue!

halo halo for dessert for me

Not bad for Filipino food in an upscale mall. I would prefer Filipino food out on the streets of Makati or Manila and save some pesos, but who can resist walking around swanky/air-conditioned Greenbelt Mall? While in the mall, there are many restaurants to choose from, many of which are US franchises. However, I've not tried Fely's. What attracted me were the old family photos hung on the wall, the spaciousness of the tables, and the view out towards the gardens. I did order cervesa--San Miguel. I followed that by beef mechado, and rice. Very yummy, like mummy used to make. You also get two pages of desserts---halo halo for me. Halo halo here was bit different. Lots of good ice cream but they didn't overload it with those little squishy balls that you get out in the streets. Overall, a nice afternoon experience.

Fried Milk Fish is a must!

The Fried Milk Fish and the ice cream with fresh mango and sticky rice dessert are my favorites. The atmosphere is nice. Also had the Guava Prawn soup, it was good but after awhile a bit overwhelming for me. Overall a good experience.

Located at the heart of Binondo on Ongpin Street, Bee Tin has not changed much over the years, making it a must-see stop in Chinatown. The Chinese deli/food mart has everything you need from preserves, imported food, Chinese candies and sweets, cured/smoked meats, dehydrated produce, frozen goods and more. I really like going here because there's so much to see and buy that's not usually in your local grocery. I think I picked up the habit of learning how to appreciate delis such as Bee Tin thanks to my grandma who'd always bring me whenever she needs to replenish her supply of preserves. Speaking of preserves, you really have to taste Bee Tin's selection because there's a lot of them! They are neatly stored in bins and you can buy them according to weight. My favorites are the plums - they are pretty large and the mix of sweet and sour has a nice effect on the palette. Another thing I'm crazy about is Bee Tin's beef jerky. While they also have the packaged kind of beef jerkey (I'm looking at you Cow Label), their own mix of the large and leathery strips of beef is a class of its own. You can also purchase these according to weight, and we tend to buy a lot of it. (Might as well make the drive worth it right?) The taste of the beef jerky plays between sweet and salty and the meat itself isn't too hard to chew on. Before I go to the check out counter, I also make a beeline to the chocolates and candies section. Sometimes they stock these really weird but good gummy candies from China (I once bought P5 packets of peach and cola flavored candies - these were really good!), and they also have imported Japanese chocolate snacks like Pocky. Other stuff you can see at Bee Tin are the packaged noodle soups, dry seaweed, Chinese candies and chocolates, haw flakes and lots more other stuff. Another plus for Bee Tin is that their prices are a lot cheaper than in regular groceries.

I mostly browsed around to get an idea of what they had and made plans to stop at another location on my last day. I went just to sightsee and thought it was pretty wonderful, a giant, colorful open air market absolutely teeming with life. The place was huge, with what felt like hundreds of vendors selling fish, meat, and produce in tightly arranged stalls. There were lots of people and the occasional cat, and we tourists were in the minority--I think almost everyone else was there to buy or sell food. The produce looked fresh, and there was a robust seafood section. We'd visited the Navotas fish port that morning, and I gather that a lot of the fish caught there make there way to the Farmers Market. We stopped by the food court and picked up mango and green mango shakes at the Fruitas stand. I'm sure we missed out on other excellent eats, but those shakes were delicious. Every vendor is its own business, so every stall you go to you will have to make a payment. Also able to haggle if you have any skill for it. I do not but natives...it's in their blood. No card transactions either straight cash, and actually have smaller bills so to make giving change easier. When I said old world, I meant old world! Place is also sectioned off...vegetables in one area, fruit vendors in another, beef, poultry, eggs, fish and shellfish are all grouped by their product. A little overwhelming for me but if you shop here regularly then I suppose you can figure out which vendor works for you, then you can establish a relationship. No shopping carts or even baskets. So bring your own bags. We only brought 1 bag and after buying more shellfish than what we came for, my aunt and I went to the house wares area and bought a small plastic bucket to put our bags of seafood in. We put all our produce in the bag I brought. The nature of the market will give first worlders fits. Nothing is refrigerated and is just sitting out in open air. Even seafood and meats like beef and pork. Just sitting or hanging in open air, and that air is not cool or temperate. Lol. I got a little queasy a few times but it is just how certain countries have been doing it for centuries. Sure there are modern grocery stores here that will rival any grocery store in the US or Europe, but I wanted to see one of these again before my trip ended. It just is in more in touch with regular people, people who are living their daily lives. That is what I wanted to be a part of. Whilst putting down food for my family, I was also able to help another put food on theirs. An exchange I can smile and feel good about. 5 Old World Stars!
