Don't take your car to Fentons. Robert is a straight thief. I got into an accident and brought my car there to get evaluated. He told me it was totaled... ok fine. He told me he could get it salvaged and now he refuses to give me paperwork that shows my car was totaled. I can't claim the car to insurance and for all I know he took the car and fixed it up and sold it. What a joke Robert is I would not trust this place to do any type of work on your car. He continues to give me the run around and is never at the shop. read more

I found this place passing on the freeway and decided to look it up after my accident. After looking at the reviews, I decided to check it out. Robert took care of me when I went it to get an estimate. He was very informative about all the changes he would have to make. He was specific and detailed about every step he would make while letting me know what to expect when it was all done. He gave me an estimate that was HALF the price of all estimates I had already received and decided this was the one. He said it would take up to 3 weeks to finish when we finalized the details. I gave him a call one week in and he said the job was almost finished. I couldn't be happier with the result. The paint job looked amazing and Robert was true to his word. I brought in a car I was intending to buy but wanted to get it looked over first. Robert and his tech found that it had major issues and would have needed many new parts, including likely a new engine. Even though Robert was busy that day he took the time to show me every individual issue with the car and discuss how it would need to be fixed. He was extremely knowledgable and saved me from buying a car that would have been a complete money pit! He also made sure the car was filled with coolant and oil (it had been completely empty). I have a 1995 Isuzu Rodeo that for whatever reason is the love of my life. At 225,000 miles, she had developed the classic Isuzu valve-ticking disease and I took it to Robert on the recommendation of a friend who owns an old-school 4Runner. Robert immediately spotted a broken gasket cover and fixed that and also did at my request an "elective" replacement of all the valves and cams. Which also included the water pump and timing belt because hey, they're sitting right there. Then after putting the whole engine back together, he discovered a coolant leak that he fixed, but didn't charge me to take the whole thing apart again. So this wasn't cheap (in addition to the significant nature of the repair, Robert only uses high quality parts) but I really couldn't be happier. The power and gas mileage have greatly improve and it's as quiet as it was when I got her at 80,000 miles. It's really hard to find a good mechanic who will work on older cars or cars with limited parts availability. I'll definitely be back - but hopefully not for a few thousand miles! ;-) read more

I work at a defense company which is located near Fenton's. This place was highly recommended to me by one of my co-workers who was an engineer. I figured that if the engineers take their cars here then it can't be too bad because they know a lot about cars. I've been taking my car here ever since for over 6 years! Not only do they do a great job but the owner runs his business on a foundation of integrity and he is very prideful about his work and goes beyond his scope of work. I've taken my truck here twice in 18 months. The first time, the repair was good, but customer service was just OK. I had to take the truck back the next day because there was a rather large grease stain on the drivers seat. They took care of it right away, but I still had to take it back. This last time, I paid $300.00 to have my brakes fixed. The problem is still there. I'm sure if I take it back, they will make it right, but what a pain in the butt. I have a Prius and before moving to Torrance, just got it serviced at the dealership. I have not heard great things about the Toyota dealers in this area and a friend recommended Fenton's. I have had bad experiences with mechanics in the past, haven't we all, but Robert at Fenton's is personable and helpful. The prices are MUCH better than the dealership (the cost for parts and labor was less than the cost for parts alone that the dealer quoted me), and I really felt like Robert listened to me and asked the right questions. He took the time to look the car over while I was there and answer my concerns and questions. He didn't have the part on site and had to get it from a dealer because Prius parts are still hard to find, but he had it at his shop in the time it took me to walk down the street and have lunch. (at most half an hour) Prior to this repair, I called to find out if it was something they could do because everyone was telling me I HAD to go to the dealer for a Prius repair, and they were helpful and answered my questions and told me to come in any time. I didn't feel that I was getting the brush off that dealers often give you on the phone. Great service, friendly helpful employees, great prices. Even though this is a little far from my house, this is where I am taking my car for all repairs from now on! read more

He was very honest about what he was going to do and what repairs were going to be made. When I picked up the car, he noticed another random scratch and he buffed it out right there. I've been getting my Lexus maintenance/repairs done at Fentons for over 6 years and was a little worried when ownership changed several years back but, to date, have had positive experiences every time. The owner, Robert, is especially attentive and detail-oriented (almost to a fault as I know little to nothing about how cars work and he will spend a fair amount of time showing/explaining to me what's going on). My husband, who routinely asks a minimum of 50 questions anytime he is spending his money on anything, is a satisfied customer, too. read more

I took my car to Fenton's for a few leaks because a family member recommended the shop. The owner (Robert Ducoing), provided a thorough explanation of the problems with my car. Later, I contacted the owner to find out when I should bring my car, and we agreed on a drop-off date. After that, everything went downhill for these reasons: ** No Estimate.*** The owner said that he would have an estimate for me on the drop-off day, but when I arrived, he was nowhere to be found. His assistant told me that he would return in 5 minutes, but he never showed up. I called him the next day to ask about the estimate and he told me that he was in Mexico. He said, in an irritated voice, "Please. Let me call you back later. I'm in Mexico. This call is expensive." He never called me back. **Changes to the scope of work without notifying me.*** I wasn't able to reach the owner until the day of my scheduled pick up. He told me that he also had to replace my spark plugs and a hose, but again, he never called me to tell me that he was going to replace parts that were outside the scope of our original agreement. He then mentioned that "whoever did my last oil change put in a leaky filter." I told him that the dealership did the oil change, and I would have them replace it. *** Hostile Attitude and Poor Customer Service.*** A family member drove me to Fenton's to pick up my car. When we met the owner, he showed me a puddle of oil that he said came from my car after sitting for only 10 minutes. He said it came from the oil filter. My family member then asked me if my car had ever leaked that much before the Fenton's repairs (he knew that my car never leaked that much after being parked overnight - so seeing a puddle of oil after only 10 minutes seemed unusual). When the owner heard him ask that question, he began to yell and scream that his integrity was being questioned. He then proceeded to insult my family member, throw his keys on his desk, and yell at him for at least 10 minutes. I have since taken my car to the dealership for a diagnostic evaluation, but even if they find no issues with Fenton's work, I would NEVER return to this auto shop because of the rude and completely unprofessional behavior of the owner. read more

I do most of my own mechanical work (brakes, tuneups, change fluids and filters), but the things I don't have tools, time or knowledge for I've brought to Fentons for the past 15 years to repair. The old owner was awesome and the current owner (Robert) is equally as great, honest and takes time with customers to explain what's going on with their vehicles. I just took my 2002 Tundra in there for new CV boots (he replaced both axles with new ones as in the long run it's both better and cheaper...) and to replace the camshaft belt (needs to be replaced every 90K). They did a great job on both items and the bill was 1/2 the cost of what you'd pay at the dealer. I trust their work and their word and HIGHLY recommend them to anyone who needs servicing or work done on their Toyota or Lexus. read more

I see previous reviews that the owner has changed. Not sure what it was before but Robert, the current owner, is a cut above the rest. Not only does he go above and beyond explaining what is happening in your car and why, but he also gives you multiple options, with regards to price but still in a safe manner, on how to fix it. His knowledge and understanding of every little process happening in your car is outstanding. Most mechanics make you feel like you're getting ripped off, simply giving you one price and that's that. You're left feeling clueless to everything and since not everyone is a mechanic, you have no clue if the parts being put in are even of quality. Robert has worked on both my Toyota 4x4 and Kia Optima so he doesn't just work on Toyotas/Lexus'. Just had all brakes serviced there yesterday and left with so much knowledge myself. Knowledge of the crap put in by the previous place, before I found Robert, that charged me a good amount, and knowledge that we collectively chose high quality parts for our family car. It really set my mind at ease knowing we would be driving around safely. If you're looking for a cheap fix, anyone can do that, hell I'm sure I could even figure it out. But a quick fix won't last you long and you'll end up spending just as much, if not more, in fixing it over and over the cheap way. Do it once with Robert for a decent price, knowing you both are collectively choosing quality parts in your price range, and your car will run so much smoother and last so much longer. After persistent problems with brake pedal vibration and intermittent steering problems took our '08 Sienna here. Robert diagnosed both accurately and clearly explained that I needed to have new pads and the rotors turned for the brakes and that the steering angle needed re-calibrating but that due to a torn boot on the rack & pinion simply re-calibrating might not be enough. Went with his recommendations and after a month worth of testing we are happy that we went here. Robert and his staff are top notch in terms of service and competence. Avoid this place unless you have no alternative. The only reason I gave it two stars is because they completed the work on time. The only thing that is done well here is a smooth taking guy who will try to have you believe he is giving you a deal. And also will nickle and dime you...I was charged for things other shops offer as part of a lower, overall cost service. The people who write decent reviews are not paying the much higher Lexus/Toyota dealer prices. This is an independant shop, it is SUPPOSED to be lower cost. And Toyotas are not speciality or high performance vehicles. And he will continue to talk your ear off to convince you. Too bad the S Bay has sooo many shops and it's so difficult to find one that will just do what you ask instead of poking around trying to find filters to replace or other things to charge you double for. read more
