Check in was quick and easy. Dog friendly hotel. Has a pool but never used. Rooms are ok, you can tell they remodeled a few years ago. Unfortunately not holding up great. We did stay in a pet friendly room. As for sound proofing, definitely a lack of. Could hear multiple rooms around me and full conversation in the parking lot. The beds were not the best, a bit uncomfortable to me. Now for the breakfast. The seating sucks. No room to move around. Hard to get food with such a tight area. I more than 6 people are there it a waiting game. Any more you have to fight to get to the food. If it off season and under $100 great place to stay. In season wouldn't pay more than $185 ( I paid way to much $245 vintage car weekend). read more

I'm coming to leave a review as after trying to handle it privately I was not met with a proper solution. My Fiancé and I came to stay at this hotel.. upon getting into bed after taking a nice shower, my toes touched a pair of socks. These socks were indeed not mine. These socks were not clean socks as it clearly shows the outline of a foot (Which we all know looks like after being worn). Since it was late, I waited till the next morning to go downstairs and speak with someone. I spoke with Madison, the front desk manager, and she told me that she would call me later that day to speak about compensation. No call and response. Housekeeping came and cleaned my room about four hours later. The next day, spoke with Jon and he said as a temporary solution, he was refunding me my $44 Resort fee, and that he couldn't do anything more because I booked through Hotels.com. We stayed in a 2-queen room in late September and had a great experience. Upon arrival, we got a small welcome bag with two waters and a Fisher's popcorn, which was such a nice touch! The room was clean, and the beds were comfortable. We didn't end up using the indoor pool, but it looked nice. We had dinner at the rooftop restaurant one night, and it was amazing- definitely recommend timing your meal around sunset for the best views. The fitness center was a bit of a letdown since it was small and didn't have many weights, but overall, we really enjoyed our stay. The location is perfect, just a block from the beach, so we'd definitely return during the summer season. read more

My friends and I are here for a week. When you check in they give you a key card that you use to get into your room. However, this should not be the way into the room. Yesterday we went to the hotels pool and when we went back up to our room both key cards had been disabled. This was a pain because we had to go all the way back to the main lobby with all of our stuff and ask them to fix it. I was annoyed but accidents and mistakes happen. Then today after the pool and beach we went to our room carrying all of our beach stuff ready to shower and both our key cards had been disabled again. We then had to walk all the way back down, wait 20 minutes in line with all of our stuff and then asked them to fix it again. This is unacceptable. We have the room for a week and they should not keep disabling our cards. It is just disrespectful and straight up rude. Not only that when we got to our room it wasn't clean. There was candy trash behind the chair in our room that we ended up having to clean. There is also blue crusty stuff on my towel which is absolutely disgusting. I would not recommend staying at this hotel there are many other hotels which will handle problems like this appropriately instead of with disrespect. read more

Fenwick Inn has had a make-over. It's nice inside but literally zero security. I don't mean security like armed mall cops, I mean, checking passes for parking and mostly for people coming in and out of the hotel. Let me tell you, anyone can jump in this pool in here or come thru the front door to get a free latte or coffee. No one stopped me and my daughter when we walked in to see her dad. We could've spent the day in there swimming and drinking lattes all day long and probably slept in the car in the lot. That's the security Im talking about.. Put key swipe mechanisms on pool doors and all else. Even bathroom doors. Otherwise, room was ok and it's about 100 yards from Delaware. This is not a big chain and definitely lacks some finishing touches, but is overall a decent place in a more relaxed and family friendly area near the beach. The room was comfortable but you could definitely hear your neighbors. The beds are comfortable, but the under sheet is not very secure. The breakfast - well let's just say you may want to dine out. There are gallons of milk in a communal fridge to pour from and not much selection. On the positive side, I found it generally clean with a decent pool and hot tub. First and foremost, during our stay, feces were discovered in the hotel pool. To our shock, the hotel's response was not a proper sanitation closure, but what appeared to be a superficial scoop-and-remove process. The splash center and hot tub were reopened shortly after, raising alarming questions about hygiene and the health standards enforced by this property. Additionally, the hotel's elevators were not functioning, and our room was located on the seventh floor, which posed a major inconvenience, particularly in 95+ degree weather. This alone created a hardship for guests, especially those with health concerns or mobility limitations. However, the most egregious event occurred in the bathroom of our room, where the ceiling collapsed while someone was in the shower. Not only is this a shocking breach of safety, but the hotel staff's response was equally appalling. We were told that "we didn't need a new room" because it was "just the bathroom," and we were instructed to simply close the door. At no point did management or maintenance visit our room, inspect the damage, tape off the area, or take any action that demonstrated accountability or concern for guest safety. Don't ever go here. This place deserves a new review from me. I stayed here one year ago and since that time, this hotel has made some major improvements. The staff was wonderful. The young lady that checked us in was very friendly and informative. She also let us check in two hours early, which was much appreciated after a long drive. The entire hotel has been completely remodeled. It's it modern, coastal, and comfortable. The pool area was clean and bright. They have a little mini market offering snacks and toiletries. They also offer a very basic continental breakfast with muffins and fruit. There are laundry facilities onsite. And the property is still pet friendly. They don't offer daily housekeeping but you can request service if you need it. This will be my go-to hotel when visiting OC from here on out. Highly recommend! read more

Got here the first day and it was nice. By our 3rd day here our bathroom had a leak and we were told we could move rooms the next day. We receive a call the next day that we can check into a new room but only had a certain window of time to do so. We scrambled to pack everything up and 10 minutes later they call back and said our room was booked they weren't able to hold it. I asked to speak with a manager about a possible credit for this problem. Was told on the phone that the manager was here and we could speak with her, but when i got to the front desk she was gone. There was blood and hair on the bedding and the curtains in the first room we were given. We were given another comforter and told the curtains would be changed the following day. The comforter given was a size smaller than the bed, but we made do. The following day after returning from the beach, the curtains weren't in fact changed, and we were never provided with the correct sized bedding. That night we were finally give the correct bedding that was thankfully clean, but were offered a room change due to the blood all over the curtains. After moving to the second room, we saw that the ceiling was leaking, and there was blood on the curtains in that room as well. What the heck is going on here? I wish I had read the reviews of other guests, because they described the same disgusting conditions we experienced. The bedding in the second room also had stains on it, and the sheets were also covered in hair. The floors in the second room were so dirty that the bottoms of your feet would be black after walking around barefoot for a few mins. After bringing this up to the front desk, they said they were sorry but there was nothing else they could do, and basically told us to deal with it. The following night there were 8+ police officers on our floor, due to a guest making a scene. They were disruptive past 1AM. I reached out to the general manager Jon Strickler with a timeline of events and photos of the blood and soiled bedding. He responded and said the cleaning staff had been retrained, and that they were taking this "very seriously." Looking at the recent reviews, that couldn't be anywhere further from the truth. Instead of partially refunding us for this totally unacceptable stay, Jon offered 2 free nights on a future stay. We wont be back in Fenwick Island until next year, and we definitely won't be staying at this seedy "hotel" again! I tried to pursue this with with Hotels.com, but they were unable to come to any resolution because Jon Strickler lied and denied all claims, despite offering 2 nights when photo evidence was provided perviously. They say it's newly renovated and family friendly, and these are downright lies. This place is nothing short of a nasty, seedy motel that has found a way to market itself. If you value your family's health and safety, you should avoid this place at all costs. Spend an extra $15-20 a night and stay somewhere more respectable. This place cares about nothing except for making a buck. Don't let Fenwick Inn place ruin your vacation like it ruined ours. read more

We booked a dog friendly room via Expedia on 5/21. When we called to confirm after 45 minuted in a hold loop we were told we couldn't stay and that they had no specific pet friendly rooms available- even though their stated policy on Expedia was the standard pet fee and that we would have to call Expedia for a refund. We found this all out at 8 pm on a Friday after driving to ocean city from Westminster so 4 or so hours in the car with dogs. At this point there was literally nothing dog friendly in OC to book so we started to head the 4 hours home. We reached out to Expedia who had to confirm with the Fenwick Inn. Luckily we had time to spare on our drive home because this started a 3 hour ordeal where the staff lied to Expedia and told them that we could have stayed for a standard pet fee. We had to escalate again and again within Expedia to get someone to finally authorize a refund as the Fenwick Inn also dishonestly told Expedia that they don't have specific pet friendly rooms and that their policy is different than what the message you after you book. All of that to essentially try to steal our money. Infuriating. read more

We arrived at 3 pm because our Priceline itinerary indicated that check in is after 3 pm but when we got to the front desk Kira who was extremely rude and condescending told us that we in fact made an error because Priceline states that check in is at 4pm, that is completely false. We were then checked into a DOG FRIENDLY floor which is the last thing I need on our last day in Maryland. We heard two dogs in separate rooms barking up a storm as soon as we got on the 2nd floor. Kira said they were "almost booked" (whatever that means) and as a result we had to settle on a room on a dog friendly floor. AC barely works and there is an over powering almost pungent smell which I deduce is to cover up the dog smell. The pool is packed with children which is fine, children should be able to swim and have fun but it prevents people who want a peaceful dip in the pool from swimming because of the splashing and child's play going on. The hotel itself is okay, it's 2 stars so I wasn't expecting the ritz but it's really he incompetency of the staff that makes this hotel a FAIL. HIGHLY UNIMPRESSED! read more

The location was great the staff was friendly and wearing masks. Check in and check out was very easy. We booked a pet friendly room and when we walked in our room smelled pretty rancid. We called down to ask for room freshener or spray because we had gotten in late and noticed the hotel was pretty full and getting a new room would probably be unlikely (although we did not ask). They came up quickly with a bottle of room spray and told us they'd wait at the door for us to finish with it so I sprayed the whole room and gave it back. After a while you stop smelling it but occasionally it would waft through the air again. We left early in the morning to start our day and told the front desk of the smell and they just wrote it down and thanked us for letting them know. I never expect pet friendly rooms to smell exceptionally good but I expect it to be somewhat neutral not rancid. I might stay here again and just board our dog but I don't think we'll be returning to the pet friendly rooms. read more

I was in need of a quick get away after a year and a half of turmoil. Not knowing the area I found this hotel was available. It seemed reasonable and looked promising. Frankly, it could use a make over and some heavy duty sprucing up, HOWEVER, the staff is fantastic! I would put them up against any five star hotel and they would win. The customer service skills of all that I came into contact with far outweighs the deficiencies that the physical plant held. Because of the STAFF I would stay again. Been here before and I feel it's way different from what I remember. People at the front desk were fantastic, very nice. There is no housekeeping because of COVID, so if you need extra linen or towels you need to go to the front desk.... Which they are happy to give to you. I requested all new bedding when we arrived for both rooms I booked because there were TONS of stains on all the bedding. The new bedding they gave me was stained too, but they were warm so at least I knew they were washed. I put the new sheets on and bought sweat pants and sweat shirts for everyone so we didn't have to use the covers or sheets. I also brought disposable slippers so nobody was barefoot in our room. - you should do this with every hotel room regardless. The bathroom wall had what (I think) is dried up barf on the side wall. Dust everywhere and pretty sure mold on the ceilings. This place is old. The indoor pool is yuck. The upstairs bar/restaurant is closed because of covid- they literally went out of business. The previous years I went here it was a great spot. Would I come here again- nope. We will be looking for a cleaner spot. As soon as I get home, we will all be taking showers immediately. read more

Only selected this hotel for our low-key babymoon because it was pet friendly, but had a feeling we'd regret it based on other reviews... sadly, we were right. Rude staff & the common areas smelled of beer, urine, and smoke. Found rodent feces between the mattress and box spring so checked out a night early since those aren't safe conditions for 8.5 months pregnant (or for any guest, really). When we complained to the front desk, they said they could clean the room or we could check out & request a refund with the GM another day. After multiple failed attempts to reach the GM, I finally shared our concerns & photos with the Front Desk Supervisor, Corey, who refused a refund because "cleaning the room would have sufficed," (a quick room cleaning doesn't get rid of an underlying rodent issue). Next, I spoke with Director of Sales for Carousel Group, Ross. Ross said the best they could do is $100 refund (we paid $384/night between the room rate, taxes & pet fee). I asked why we couldn't get a full one-night refund since we didn't use the room and his answer was "I don't need to explain myself," which speaks volumes about this brand. BEWARE: VERY SKETCHY If I could give 0 stars I would. Upon arrival to check in (night time), there was a strange man outside of the lobby door honking at my friend and I (two females) while we were trying to finish the check in process. After checking in, this man had already moved from the front of the building. While looking for parking within the hotel lot, we noticed the strange man following us in a truck. Afraid to park behind the building, we drove to the front again to see if there was additional parking. The man followed us, and approached our car on foot at this point. He asked us to go to his room and entered the hotel. He proceeded to watch us parked in front of the glass doors, and since we refused to leave our car he disappeared into the elevator. After 5 minutes of waiting and thinking he was gone we went to find security in the lobby. While we complained of this weird encounter, the man popped out of the elevator and asked security for a key that "he had lost." Security asked for name and room number, this man gave three different names when they discovered he was not even a guest at this hotel. He caused a scene before getting kicked out. We then went back to find parking, when this man was hiding in between cars watching us to see where we would park. We then went back to the lobby and asked security for a different parking lot. The front desk and security said the man had left, but we told them he was hiding between cars. We asked for a refund because we did not feel safe. They said we could talk to management in the morning but that the man had left the premises. After 20 minutes looking for a new hotel, we called Fenwick Inn to see if we could get a refund. The front desk told us to come back because it was "safe". There was a man yelling in the background of the phone when she then placed me on hold. Returning from hold, she said the man had come back but they kicked him out again and now it is safe to return. This whole night was very sketchy and felt unsafe. I should have called the police to begin with, but was tired from the drive and had to find a new hotel to stay in that night. After two weeks of trying to reach a manager, and transferred between 4 different people in charge we did not get a refund. Even though "two managers" promised a refund. We did not receive a refund even though we did not go past the hotel lobby and even make it to the elevator. After two weeks of trying to reach someone in charge, I finally reach higher management that said I should have reached her sooner.. even though I left countless messages and was on the phone for almost two hours everyday trying to resolve this. She then gave me an even higher managers phone number where he never returned my message. Everyone only could feel bad for our situation but held no action to resolve the problem. One "manager" even said we deserved a refund and that if she was there she would have helped because by looking at the report she saw police were later called to remove this man permanently. She then followed with she is not authorized to issue the refund. I felt as two young women in 2022, we did the correct thing to not exit our car when we felt unsafe. After the front desk advised that we were safe and the man left, she was later proved wrong when he returned to the property. A man waiting for us to enter the elevator without being a guest at Fenwick seems like a pretty good enough reason for me not to stay. Who knows what could have happened, or if the front desk was in on a sex trafficking attempt.. Worst customer service. read more

I'm wasting precious time writing because I am really quite upset. I stayed in the Fenwick inn a year ago and had an issue. Their bed frame was sticking out, it gave me a wound, and I was limping at the beach for my birthday weekend. The manager at that time apologized and compensated by giving me a letter to come visit for a complimentary night- even stating to come during summer! I have been looking forward to getting compensated for my troubles then. I called the property and was told that the supervisor is no longer there, it is under different management, and they cannot honor it. I come from a hospitality background, both education and experience, and this is not right. This management still uses the name Fenwick Inn and they should still honor what a previous employee did (regardless if previous management) to compensate for a bad situation. I even asked if they would honor a night on a Thursday instead of a weekend, and they still did not agree. Bobby was nice in telling me that it could not be honored because of different management, but I feel like John, the general manager, should have honored it anyway. If I could rate this negative stars, I would. Multiple people not wearing masks. I should have taken photos and shared them on social media but i didn't think about it until now. Sunday & Monday the same guy would be cleaning the lobby and not even pretending to wear a mask. And there were other employees around interacting with him and obviously not holding him accountable. In the afternoon one day there were three housekeepers hanging out at the end of the hall talking. None were wearing their masks. And it wasn't for a brief moment...it was for at least a half hour...I know because I had to go back and forth between my room and another room. The windows in the rooms don't open so who knows how much COVID could be lingering. And the air conditioned air smells weird like there's funk inside. I wiped down many surfaces in the room to disinfect and the used wipes were dirty like the surfaces hadn't actually been thoroughly cleaned. Most people that work here seem pretty great but there are a few that are just irritated whenever you ask them anything. Health hazard. Don't stay here. Decided not to only because anytime I'm on vacation in this area my family is at the beach the entire day instead of the hotel or airbnb. My room wasn't so bad. Stayed in the off season and were referred by friends that called this place "the resort". All in all, great experience. The staff that we had contact with (about 4 people) were very nice and informative. When booking online, we asked to check in early, as well as have a room on a higher floor. We arrived at the hotel about noon, and checked in right away and were even given a room on the 6th floor. One of the biggest downfalls of the trip was getting pulled over. I am a frequent beach goer, so I know the small town officers are constantly doing radar, which is why I was doing the speed limit. I still got pulled over (less than half a mile from the hotel) for my window tint with no waiver. Yes, I understand it is illegal in Delaware without a waver, however the cop proceeded to give me a $110 ticket (more than I paid for the room). When checking in, I told the front desk lady, and she said the cops are "bored" in the off seasons, so prepare yourself. The hotel staff was great, the king room was large and clean. There is a restaurant on the top floor, and to be honest, the service was horrendous. They have happy hour every day, which is nice, but there were two bartenders working, and both acted like it was their first day working and that they were slammed, which they were not. Drinks were ordered and charged to the tab, but forgotten to be made NUMEROUS times, Food was decent, but nothing to get excited about. There was a 7/11 across the street which was very convenient. We also had a pretty nice view of the beach seen through buildings. I looked at the prices for summer and they are OUTRAGEOUS. Will be returning, but only in the off season. I can't imagine paying $300 a night for a room in the summer, especially when I paid $60 a night during the off season. read more

Do not stay here.. we had the worst experience this past weekend and had to leave within 3 hours of checking in. There were drunk people all in the hallways banging, yelling at almost 2am, even sounded like they were fighting. When we were going to the elevator to leave there was random shoes and things in the hallways. The walls and doors are paper-thin. When we checked in there was still things in our room from the people who stayed there before us. The man at the front desk said there was nothing he could do, we have been trying to get in touch with the manager for over a week & no call back. The lady on the phone was also very rude saying " Sir you can talk until you're blue in the face, but i can't help you" .. not very good customer service.
