A fantastic burger. Great buns, fantastic combination of toppings, flavourful patty, and everything came together well. Is it one of the best burgers I've ever had? Not quite, but a great option if you're in the area. However, the onion rings were painfully mediocre. You only get a few of them for the price, and the texture and flavor wasn't anything special. Get the burger, pass on the rings.
WOW! Just wow! I was skeptical when Fergburger was mentioned as one of the world's best burgers, but was pleasantly surprised at how massive and delicious the burger was. We tried the following burgers: - The Fergburger - 5/5. Your standard burger and absolutely delicious! - Sweet Bambi - made with wild fjordland deer and a sweet chutney - 5/5 - Codfather - fish burger 5/5 The difference-maker with Fergburger is the delicious buns, which are made at neighboring Fergbaker. The meat patties are also huge and packed with flavor. There is always a line unless you show up at 8am, when we walked by early in the morning. Lines go quick and we waited ~30-min for burgers around lunchtime. Very limited seating in and outside. Recommend getting your burgers and sitting at the outdoor parks or by the pier. We only had 2-days in Queenstown and happened to eat at all "ferg" establishments (Fergburger, Fergbaker, and Mrs. ferg). They were just that good!
Visiting Ferburger, standing in line, and the anticipation to finally taste this burger was great fun! If I'm being honest though, although the burger was pretty good, it's not something I would stand in line for again. We tried the Fergburger Deluxe and fries. Again, it's just a pretty good burger.
Good burgers (4/5), long lines but they move quick! Food- Ferg burger double (4/5) good quality meat in a sesame bun, your traditional burger. I would recommend a single and not a double as the patty's are meaty. Service: friendly, long lines but it moves quickly! Overall about 20 minutes of waiting in line then about 10-15 minutes after order is placed. Atmosphere: it's a causal spot but FLOODED with customers. You'll be lucky to get a seat. Overall it's hyped up more than what it is but it's worth checking out!
Fergburger is easily the most famous restaurant in Queenstown - if you even mention you're going to Queenstown, people will tell you that you have to try Fergburger. The line for Fergburger was LONG and I mean like a whole block long out the door long and I was told that that's not even bad for them. Fergburger offers a whole list of different burger and sandwich combos along with fries, shakes, etc. For flying all the way across the world from the United States, Fergburger sells quite an American cuisine. After about 20-30 min of waiting, we got up to order and placed our order. They give you a number and then you wait another bit longer for your food to be ready. They'll show your number on a screen when it's your time. The bummer is that it's absolutely way too packed to sit down considering there's only a few tables so you pretty much have to take it to go. Honestly, the burger was solid but in my opinion, each US city has 10+ better burger shops than Fergburger. The burger was good don't get me wrong, but did not live up to the hype. The fries were great however!
OKAY YUM - this place is insane! I was here on a Saturday night and the line was Long but it moved quick - super efficient operation. We got the holier than tho and the codfather both were DELCICIOUS! the burgers were huge and perfectly seasoned, somehow those buns weren't soggy! The waitress was so nice and when we told her we were on our honeymoon she gave us a free wine bottle
Food: 4.9/5 Service: 2.8/5 Value: 4.7/5 The hype of the town and boy does the line make you feel the hype. Even in the rain, we had to wait 10 minutes just to order. Luckily the stores nearby typically have rain covers and the rain was relatively light. However, the wait was absolutely worth it, and I'll remember this as one of the best burgers I've had. Just to get all of my complaints out of the way. It is really difficult to find anywhere to sit and actually enjoy the burger. There are so many tourists and so few spots, just expect to have to enjoy this burger somewhere else. On a sunny day, would strongly recommend just going by the lake, but on a rainy like what we experienced, it was super difficult. Now, onto the food! Ferg Deluxe: Holy crap this burger was so good.... The combination of the well seasoned, tender patty with the bacon, relish were incredible. Honestly, when I first took a bite of this burger, I was just blown away and instantly knew it was different from the other burgers I've had. I can't give enough praise to how well Fergburger executes their staple. Sweet Bambi: Honestly after the Ferg Deluxe, this was quite the letdown. The deer was not as well seasoned but the boysenberry sauce was quite good. It just didn't have the "wow" factor that the Ferburger has. Altogether a decent burger but would probably just recommend getting the restaurant staple.
My husband bookmarked this place, and our hotel concierge also recommended it, so it seemed like a must-try spot. I was warned that the line can be quite long usually 30 to 45 minutes but when I arrived around 2:30 pm on a Friday, there were only about five people ahead of me. I waited roughly five minutes before ordering. I ordered the Double Patty with cheese for $21.50, the Southern Swine for about $18.50, a Hokey Pokey milkshake for $12.50, and onion rings for $9.90. The staff mentioned that my order number would appear on the monitor in about 15 minutes, and that was pretty accurate. We were lucky to get a seat inside as there are only about four tables--but there's additional bench seating outside where most people eat. We sat by the bar stoolsl where one of the cooks was grilling patties and toasting buns, which was fun to watch. Next door, there's also a bar, a bakery, and a gelato shop, which makes the Ferg empire lively. As for the food, the burger was juicy but not particularly flavorful. I did like the avocado, though the burger itself was huge--I couldn't finish it. The onion rings were a bit greasy, and when I opened the box, it was only half full, whereas others seemed to get more generous portions. Not a big deal since I couldn't finish mine anyway, but worth noting. Everything moved pretty efficiently overall. However, there's only one unisex bathroom, and the line can get long. Unfortunately, it also smelled quite bad, definitely an area they should improve.
If you're in Queenstown, Fergburger is a must. It shows up on every "best places to eat" list, and it really does live up to the hype. Even if you see a crowd outside, don't let that discourage you -- the staff are friendly and they turn over orders fast. We visited on a Friday afternoon, and we only waited about 5-10 minutes to order. However, we have heard that waits can be much longer (up to an hour) during weekends or peak dining times. Seating inside is limited (a few barstools and small tables), so many people take their food to-go, but we were able to grab seats at the counter. I ordered the Fergburger with double meat (two patties, cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion, garlic aioli) for $21.50 NZD. My wife ordered the Southern Swine (beef patty, bacon, same toppings plus avocado) for $18.90 NZD, onion rings ($9.90 NZD) and a hokey pokey milkshake (vanilla with honeycomb toffee for $12.20 NZD). The burgers are large, the buns are toasted and hold everything together, and the patties were juicy and flavorful. The onion rings were crispy, and the milkshake was rich and creamy. There's a tv monitor inside showing when orders are ready, and there's also a restroom available. Great flavor, big portions, and fast service. Definitely worth stopping by when you're in Queenstown.
Burger still amazing! Lots of options including fish, chicken, venison & more.."gourmet"style burgers with all the fixings but super casual joint. Busy and lively buzz here all the time so plan on bringing patience with your appetite. . Service is quick& friendly. Love it here... can't leave town without trying! Oh, they just had their 25th anniversary. They have a bakery next door and a bar now too.
We heard this place was once ranked as No. 1 burger place in the world by CNN or something so we decided to give you a try. This place always has a line rain or shine, no matter number one or not, it's definitely one of the most loved restaurants in Queenstown. The line usually moves pretty fast, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. They walked along the line passing around the menus and giving you an estimate of the current wait time for food. Ordering was very easy and efficient. Not sure if it's the expectation or the over-hyped before trying the food. I'd say the patties are pretty juicy, food is good, but I wouldn't say it's the best burger I've ever had. They open pretty late, so it's perfect for late night snacks or craves.
I was recommended this place on my trip to Queenstown so of course I had to go. The line was out the door but the register was right at the entry. I asked what the most popular item was and she recommended the Ferg Deluxe ($19.90 NZD). I also got a side of Fries ($7.90) and Ginger Beer ($6). It was just me so I was easily able to find a seat at the counter. They have a tv behind the register where you can see which order numbers are ready. The food also came out in a reasonable time, maybe a bit less than 10 minutes. I wouldn't say that it's the juiciest burger and it wasn't life changing, but for the price it was pretty good. The burger was huge but I was still able to finish the whole burger surprisingly. They really did not skimp on any of the ingredients and I got a good mix of flavors with each bite. It's a pretty fast paced place and a lot of people take their orders to go. There's only a few tables inside so you'll have to be pretty lucky to get a spot. Like I said, it wasn't the best burger I've had in my life, but it's worth a try and you definitely get your money's worth. It's best to go off peak times because I always see a long line out front. I would still come back though to try some of their more unique burgers.

Definitely a must-try in Queenstown! Their burgers are massive and filled with scrumptious ingredients. We tried their Bun Laden and it was gorgeous. Be sure to get your burgers early as this place is very popular with long waiting lines. But it is worth the wait as in the end you get a burger with a good value for money. read more
I knew the long lines must mean something, so my Mom and I braved the crowds to try a Fergburger! Thankfully we arrived around 1:30 so the line wasn't as crazy as we had seen the night before, but we still had to wait about 45 minutes total (including waiting in line and then waiting for our order to be ready). We ordered the Southern Swine (comes with avocado), the Mr. Big Stuff (BBQ sauce), fries and onion rings. We took the order to go because there really weren't that many places to sit. Once we got back to our place we dug in and it was delicious! The meat was tender, the veggies were plentiful and crisp (especially the lettuce), and the sauces were awesome. The fries were thick and crispy, and tasted amazing with the ketchup. The onion rings were perfectly breaded to the point where you could still taste the onion which is exactly how an onion ring should be! :D I now understand why people rave about Fergburger. They do really make some tasty burgers, and as an American far from home it sure hit the spot! read more
Fergburger. That was the number 1 place all my friends and family recommended I go eat when I mentioned I was traveling to New Zealand for my honeymoon. This burger joint is located in Queenstown on Shotover Street, and you can expect long lines at all times of the day. But to avoid the crowd, my husband and I went around 9:30 in the morning. Yes, we ate burgers and fries for breakfast lol. There was one other person ahead of us and we easily found seats inside. The cashier was super friendly as she helped us decide on which burgers we wanted to try. Although it was early and not as many customers, the wait for our order was about 20-25 minutes. So I can't imagine how much longer the wait would be if it was their normal long line time. BUT...I can finally justify that this place really is legit and lives up to the hype! I ordered Sweet Bambi ($13.90), the hubby ordered the Little Lamby ($13.90) and Fries with Aioli Sauce ($4.50). OMG, their burgers were to die for! The bun was delicious and the patty was cooked perfectly medium rare. For my Sweet Bambi burger, I loved everything. I've never had boysenberry and brie cheese put together in a burger before and it was amazing! The only thing I would suggest is the aioli sauce for the fries was nothing to write home about. We wished we ordered a different sauce, but their fries were perfect and didn't actually need a dipping sauce anyways. Now it's my turn to tell all my friends and family that Fergburger is my number 1 choice when it comes to food here in New Zealand!!! Cheers read more

Let me first start by saying, I'm not a burger fan. I could never eat a burger again in my life and I would be fine (totally UnAmerican, I know) BUT my husband LOVES burgers. He considers himself a burger connoisseur and he says this is the best burger he has ever had. I ordered the tropical swine burger with pineapple and it was good. He had some of mine and said it was delicious but he LOVED his burger which was The Big Al. My mom ordered the Southern Swine and said it was one of the best burgers she has ever had. The aioli that they put on the burger is so delicious. The fries were also good. The lines to this place can be ridiculous. We went around 6 PM on a Thursday night and the line was wrapped around past the pizza place so we opted for devils burger instead (which was so good too) and came back to Fergberger around 2:00 on Friday and there was no line. read more

Finally getting around to writing a review.......one year later! When I showed up the place wasn't too crowded, so I only had to wait in line for 10-15 minutes. That was just enough time to finally pick my order. I ordered the Tropical Swine. Right after I ordered I was able to grab a seat at the bar, so decided to dine in. I ordered a small light beer and waited for this massive burger. Everyone was very nice...even though it was packed and everyone was on top of each other. When the burger came, my eyes went wide! I had to cut it in half, no other way for me. It was so delicious! I only ate half at the restaurant and then gave up my seat to enjoy the view by the water. The line was super long once I left. I ended up eating the other half in the park by the water.....that was kind of a mistake because I am definitely all Ferg Burgered out now. haha Definitely give this place a try! read more

First time in Queenstown and we were looking for some grinds. Places we stopped at were pretty pricey and not so good for kids. Walked up to Ferg Burger and gave it a shot. We were pleasantly surprised. Albeit a little busy the service was excellent. Lucked out and got a table so we didn't have to order take away. All of our burgers were excellent from the Ferg with Blue Cheese to The Lamby and Bambi Burgers. Speights was cold and on tap. Big tasty burgers and very reasonable prices make Fergs a MUST do in Queenstown! read more

So if you're hanging out in Queenstown you've obviously noticed the ridiculous line that forms out here. I get why its an institution around these parts. We were in staying in Queenstown for a few days before heading back from our trip to Kiwiland and stopped here our last night. Is it the best burger I've ever had, no. Does it live up to the hype? Yes. If you're going to brave the line, I would hands down recommend the steak burger. My wife got the standard cheeseburger, which a solid option with large portions but only a good burger. The steak burger however, is a GREAT burger. The fries are pretty solid too boot. And hey if you're an American in NZ order a COKE. It has real sugar in NZ and Oz and none of that high fructose corn syrup crap we get back in the states. read more
If there were two things I absolutely needed to do when I got to Queenstown, it was to eat a Ferg Pie and to eat a Ferg Burger. As the queue was long at Ferg Burger (per usual), I opted to get a Ferg Pie at the Ferg Bakery. Besides, I run in the Bakery before I run into the burger joint. I barely glanced at the menu before asking the guy behind the counter if he had any Ferg pies left. He said he did, and reached behind him with tongs and pulled one out of the warming oven and placed it into a brown paper baggie. I know that seems like a frivolous detail, but my friend told me that she thought that pies that come in paper seem to be better than those that come in plastic. Makes it more legit, more personal, more tasty. I handed the guy my money and he asked if I wanted tomato sauce with it. I tilted my head, asking if it NEEDED tomato sauce. He grinned and nodded his head that it didn't need it, just tasted better with it. So I got the tomato sauce. DID NOT NEED IT. GET OUT OF HERE FERG PIE MAN. Although, to be honest, I did squeeze a little bit of sauce on my pie to give it a go. It was still good, but come on, if you start with delicious, you're going to end with delicious (unless you REALLY mess something up). All in all, this was a great way to ease into the Fergness of Food here in Queenstown. Definitely stop here. Ferg Pie will not leave you disappointed! read more

We stayed in Queenstown for 5 days during our trip to NZ, and we paid a visit to Fergbaker EVERY SINGLE DAY (once, even twice in one day). Everything was delicious! My favorites (in order): 1. Mince & cheese pie - All the pies we tried were delicious, but this was my favorite. The best mince pies in NZ! Super flaky, buttery and piping hot every time. 2. Boston cream donut - MUST TRY THIS! The best cream donut I've ever had. 3. Breakfast sandwich - The bap is a must. The bread is so soft and chewy. I totally regret not getting this more! Just okay: * Blueberry pie * Apple pie * Venison pie * Chicken, bacon & mushroom pie The lines are not nearly as bad as Fergburger next door, so it was super easy to pop in and grab breakfast (or just a snack) anytime of the day! read more

We ordered the Southern Swine and the Blue Eye with a serving of crumbled calamari. All the food were excellent. Really good size even after a day of solid skiing. The 200g steak with the burger was done just to my liking (medium rare) making it very easy to eat. Delicious with blue cheese. They had a warm apple cider drink that was very good, really hit the spot. Yes it's a long line. Table can be scarce. But we found that after ordering, by the time food arrives you'd have found a seat anyway. So it's kind of perfect timing. We waited for about 15-20mins. Service was great and very friendly. There's no way you can miss Fergburger when you're on Shotover St. in Queenstown. Fergburger is always packed with many people standing around outside waiting for their food or waiting for the next open table. The restaurant is tiny so good luck on finding a seat unless it's super late at night. Their burgers are definitely one of the best I've had, and I've had a lot of gourmet burgers in my life. I tried the Little Lamby burger. The bread was soft and freshly baked from their bakery next door. The lamb patty was juicy and came with mint sauce that compliments it. I tried my friend's Cock Cajun burger and the chicken patty was moist and juicy. If I ever visit Queenstown again, I'm definitely going back. So good. read more

My friends really hyped up fergburger...and it lived up to the hype and exceeded it. The burger was exquisite. I got the Hawaiian swine and all the flavors blended together beautifully. The fries were amazing. Go here. The line is super long to both order and to wait for your food but it's worth it. read more
A great take-away restaurant located next to Fergburger. We came here twice in our 3 day stay in Queenstown. The first night we got the vanilla flan and the second night we got the pork belly pie and the lemon meringue tart. The tart was tastier than the flan and the pork belly pie was tastier than the desserts! It's a great place for takeaway meals - they have many different types of savor pies and it's unfortunate we weren't able to try more! It's a great place to pickup breakfast or dessert on the go! read more
Decided to join the dozens of people waiting outside this joint at 1030 in the morning. I guess it's worth the wait. The place- set up like a large takeaway joint. mix of indoor and outdoor seats, but really don't count on it. Has a bakery and gelato shop next door. The food- awesome burgers. Highly recommend the chief wiggum burger. The pork belly was very well made and seasoned. Perhaps can be a little juicer. We also got the southern swine and codfather burger. They were good but would go for the pork burger again next time. The bread is made next door so it's pretty fresh. You can also customize the burger. Drinks- standard soft drinks. Service- friendly and chatty. Made us feel very welcomed. The line appears very long from outside but there is actually no real line inside. Their cashier is right at the door. My only complaint is the amount of time you have to wait for your food. We waited for about 30 min for 3 burgers. It's freshly made, but that's still kinda long. read more
