In our Queenstown research, we of course discovered Fergburger and knew we had to try it as two burger fans from the states. The first time we went was for lunch after ziplining when we had hit the line at a surprisingly short time. It moved quickly and we received our deluxe fergburger within 10 minutes of ordering. It was ginormous, but so so good! We had ordered squid rings as a side which were also solid. It was so good, we ended up coming back for breakfast to get an egg sandwich. Just as enormous, and yummy, as our lunch the previous day was!
WOW! Just wow! I was skeptical when Fergburger was mentioned as one of the world's best burgers, but was pleasantly surprised at how massive and delicious the burger was. We tried the following burgers: - The Fergburger - 5/5. Your standard burger and absolutely delicious! - Sweet Bambi - made with wild fjordland deer and a sweet chutney - 5/5 - Codfather - fish burger 5/5 The difference-maker with Fergburger is the delicious buns, which are made at neighboring Fergbaker. The meat patties are also huge and packed with flavor. There is always a line unless you show up at 8am, when we walked by early in the morning. Lines go quick and we waited ~30-min for burgers around lunchtime. Very limited seating in and outside. Recommend getting your burgers and sitting at the outdoor parks or by the pier. We only had 2-days in Queenstown and happened to eat at all "ferg" establishments (Fergburger, Fergbaker, and Mrs. ferg). They were just that good!
Visiting Ferburger, standing in line, and the anticipation to finally taste this burger was great fun! If I'm being honest though, although the burger was pretty good, it's not something I would stand in line for again. We tried the Fergburger Deluxe and fries. Again, it's just a pretty good burger.
A fantastic burger. Great buns, fantastic combination of toppings, flavourful patty, and everything came together well. Is it one of the best burgers I've ever had? Not quite, but a great option if you're in the area. However, the onion rings were painfully mediocre. You only get a few of them for the price, and the texture and flavor wasn't anything special. Get the burger, pass on the rings.
Good burgers (4/5), long lines but they move quick! Food- Ferg burger double (4/5) good quality meat in a sesame bun, your traditional burger. I would recommend a single and not a double as the patty's are meaty. Service: friendly, long lines but it moves quickly! Overall about 20 minutes of waiting in line then about 10-15 minutes after order is placed. Atmosphere: it's a causal spot but FLOODED with customers. You'll be lucky to get a seat. Overall it's hyped up more than what it is but it's worth checking out!
Fergburger is easily the most famous restaurant in Queenstown - if you even mention you're going to Queenstown, people will tell you that you have to try Fergburger. The line for Fergburger was LONG and I mean like a whole block long out the door long and I was told that that's not even bad for them. Fergburger offers a whole list of different burger and sandwich combos along with fries, shakes, etc. For flying all the way across the world from the United States, Fergburger sells quite an American cuisine. After about 20-30 min of waiting, we got up to order and placed our order. They give you a number and then you wait another bit longer for your food to be ready. They'll show your number on a screen when it's your time. The bummer is that it's absolutely way too packed to sit down considering there's only a few tables so you pretty much have to take it to go. Honestly, the burger was solid but in my opinion, each US city has 10+ better burger shops than Fergburger. The burger was good don't get me wrong, but did not live up to the hype. The fries were great however!
OKAY YUM - this place is insane! I was here on a Saturday night and the line was Long but it moved quick - super efficient operation. We got the holier than tho and the codfather both were DELCICIOUS! the burgers were huge and perfectly seasoned, somehow those buns weren't soggy! The waitress was so nice and when we told her we were on our honeymoon she gave us a free wine bottle
Food: 4.9/5 Service: 2.8/5 Value: 4.7/5 The hype of the town and boy does the line make you feel the hype. Even in the rain, we had to wait 10 minutes just to order. Luckily the stores nearby typically have rain covers and the rain was relatively light. However, the wait was absolutely worth it, and I'll remember this as one of the best burgers I've had. Just to get all of my complaints out of the way. It is really difficult to find anywhere to sit and actually enjoy the burger. There are so many tourists and so few spots, just expect to have to enjoy this burger somewhere else. On a sunny day, would strongly recommend just going by the lake, but on a rainy like what we experienced, it was super difficult. Now, onto the food! Ferg Deluxe: Holy crap this burger was so good.... The combination of the well seasoned, tender patty with the bacon, relish were incredible. Honestly, when I first took a bite of this burger, I was just blown away and instantly knew it was different from the other burgers I've had. I can't give enough praise to how well Fergburger executes their staple. Sweet Bambi: Honestly after the Ferg Deluxe, this was quite the letdown. The deer was not as well seasoned but the boysenberry sauce was quite good. It just didn't have the "wow" factor that the Ferburger has. Altogether a decent burger but would probably just recommend getting the restaurant staple.
My husband bookmarked this place, and our hotel concierge also recommended it, so it seemed like a must-try spot. I was warned that the line can be quite long usually 30 to 45 minutes but when I arrived around 2:30 pm on a Friday, there were only about five people ahead of me. I waited roughly five minutes before ordering. I ordered the Double Patty with cheese for $21.50, the Southern Swine for about $18.50, a Hokey Pokey milkshake for $12.50, and onion rings for $9.90. The staff mentioned that my order number would appear on the monitor in about 15 minutes, and that was pretty accurate. We were lucky to get a seat inside as there are only about four tables--but there's additional bench seating outside where most people eat. We sat by the bar stoolsl where one of the cooks was grilling patties and toasting buns, which was fun to watch. Next door, there's also a bar, a bakery, and a gelato shop, which makes the Ferg empire lively. As for the food, the burger was juicy but not particularly flavorful. I did like the avocado, though the burger itself was huge--I couldn't finish it. The onion rings were a bit greasy, and when I opened the box, it was only half full, whereas others seemed to get more generous portions. Not a big deal since I couldn't finish mine anyway, but worth noting. Everything moved pretty efficiently overall. However, there's only one unisex bathroom, and the line can get long. Unfortunately, it also smelled quite bad, definitely an area they should improve.
If you're in Queenstown, Fergburger is a must. It shows up on every "best places to eat" list, and it really does live up to the hype. Even if you see a crowd outside, don't let that discourage you -- the staff are friendly and they turn over orders fast. We visited on a Friday afternoon, and we only waited about 5-10 minutes to order. However, we have heard that waits can be much longer (up to an hour) during weekends or peak dining times. Seating inside is limited (a few barstools and small tables), so many people take their food to-go, but we were able to grab seats at the counter. I ordered the Fergburger with double meat (two patties, cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion, garlic aioli) for $21.50 NZD. My wife ordered the Southern Swine (beef patty, bacon, same toppings plus avocado) for $18.90 NZD, onion rings ($9.90 NZD) and a hokey pokey milkshake (vanilla with honeycomb toffee for $12.20 NZD). The burgers are large, the buns are toasted and hold everything together, and the patties were juicy and flavorful. The onion rings were crispy, and the milkshake was rich and creamy. There's a tv monitor inside showing when orders are ready, and there's also a restroom available. Great flavor, big portions, and fast service. Definitely worth stopping by when you're in Queenstown.
We heard this place was once ranked as No. 1 burger place in the world by CNN or something so we decided to give you a try. This place always has a line rain or shine, no matter number one or not, it's definitely one of the most loved restaurants in Queenstown. The line usually moves pretty fast, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. They walked along the line passing around the menus and giving you an estimate of the current wait time for food. Ordering was very easy and efficient. Not sure if it's the expectation or the over-hyped before trying the food. I'd say the patties are pretty juicy, food is good, but I wouldn't say it's the best burger I've ever had. They open pretty late, so it's perfect for late night snacks or craves.
I was recommended this place on my trip to Queenstown so of course I had to go. The line was out the door but the register was right at the entry. I asked what the most popular item was and she recommended the Ferg Deluxe ($19.90 NZD). I also got a side of Fries ($7.90) and Ginger Beer ($6). It was just me so I was easily able to find a seat at the counter. They have a tv behind the register where you can see which order numbers are ready. The food also came out in a reasonable time, maybe a bit less than 10 minutes. I wouldn't say that it's the juiciest burger and it wasn't life changing, but for the price it was pretty good. The burger was huge but I was still able to finish the whole burger surprisingly. They really did not skimp on any of the ingredients and I got a good mix of flavors with each bite. It's a pretty fast paced place and a lot of people take their orders to go. There's only a few tables inside so you'll have to be pretty lucky to get a spot. Like I said, it wasn't the best burger I've had in my life, but it's worth a try and you definitely get your money's worth. It's best to go off peak times because I always see a long line out front. I would still come back though to try some of their more unique burgers.
Burger still amazing! Lots of options including fish, chicken, venison & more.."gourmet"style burgers with all the fixings but super casual joint. Busy and lively buzz here all the time so plan on bringing patience with your appetite. . Service is quick& friendly. Love it here... can't leave town without trying! Oh, they just had their 25th anniversary. They have a bakery next door and a bar now too.
As soon as I knew I was going to New Zealand, I was probably most excited to try fergburger. Being dubbed as the best burger in the world, it had a huge name to live up to. We were quite lucky because we came around 9 pm on a Friday and there was no line. I got the classic fergburger and fries. I liked that they had a digital screen to see when your order was done. It's one big burger. The bun was amazing. Overall, the burger was fantastic. We came back another night and I had the southern swine burger with Brie as they were out of avocado. However, they still put on the tomato relish despite me requesting to not have it. A must stop in Queenstown. Their burgers are very affordable and filling. read more

Fergburger was amazing! Perfect ratio of meat to bun to veggies. This place is always busy, but if you go before the lunch rush or dinner rush, you can get your burger in about 15-20 mins. Highly recommend trying if you're visiting Queenstown. We ended up going twice to try the lamb burger as well :) read more

The hype is real and Fergberger lives up to the reviews and ratings. Expect to wait in line. Expect to fight for a table. Expect people to hover over you while you eat so they can grab your table the minute you are done. The burgers are delicious! We sampled a variety in my group including the Fergburger with cheese, the Cajun, and 2 others I can't remember. They were all delicious with large portion sizes that were tough to finish. The fries with various dipping sauces are also really good. I talked to a few locals who said the place is a tourist trap. It definitely seems like it, but who cares since the food is good! Most locals seemed to recommend Devil Burger as a good local loved option. read more
The line is usually long, but its pretty worth it. They have a large selection of burgers to choose from. We had to wait about 20 minutes to order (which gave me time to figure out what the heck I wanted to order) and another 20 minutes to get our food. But they serve alcohol so that made the time fly by a little quicker. read more

Not to be missed! I went with the original Fergburger, which was amazing, or as CNN reports, "The best burger on the planet." The side of fries and espresso shake didn't disappoint, either. If the original looks a little mundane (it's not), then feel free to venture out to something more unique like the Southern Swine or Sweet Bambi. Everything I saw coming off the grill looked totally legit. Cold beer on tap and by the bottle, too! Who would have guessed that one of the best burgers in the world was all the way down here in Queenstown? Get in line and prepare to be wowed. read more
Was visiting NZ with my friend and decided to eat a burger at this place that appeared very busy. Both my friend and I thought Fergburger was so overrated. You can watch the staff cook the burger right in front of you. Half of my friends burger actually was burnt with a lot of charred black pieces. It was burnt so much that she couldn't eat it part of it. The lettuce for the burger wasn't even fresh looking. Definitely of all the burger joints that I've tried in different cities, this one by far is mediocre. read more

I dream about this burger but I live on the other side of the world! I visited New Zealand for a two week vacation and yelped good places to eat in Queens town. SERVICE fend for yourself!! The line too about 30-45 minutes before we were able to order. This was in the middle of April when I went on vacation so it was pretty chilly waiting outside. They do have these infrared heat warmer things outside to keep hopeful burger eaters toasty before ordering. It is a tourist mess so you will need to really watch for available seating otherwise you'll have to walk a few streets to the park bench or lake side, which isn't a bad deal if the weather is warm. As soon as you take your last bite, people will inch over and set their food or drinks down in your spot claiming it haha. FOOD The menu is so cleverly designed. We need one of these in America (I would so franchise this place!!!). - Osama "bun" laden is what sticks out to me. Hahaha. I ordered the biggest burger which was about 15 -20 dollars and split it with my dad. It was loaded with juicy beef and so many toppings. I'm serious, I dream about this burger back in America. The fries are carefully salted and crispy. The wasabi mayo was the perfect pairing!! ENVIRONMENT Queens town is such a gem. It's close Enough to the hotel drop off points, the lakes, and the small side parks. I wish the restaurant could be bigger though to accommodate the volumes of people swarming in. You can't go to queenstown without stopping at Fergburger. Literally everyone I know that has been to Queenstown begged me to try this place! The queue can be quite offputting (because it seriously gets quite bad - snaking down the street) so Francis and I saved the best for last. They do have seats but it is really limited so we decided to do take away. Their burgers are HUGE & JUICY, and I enjoyed every single bite while watching Netflix. I almost never finish an entire burger, but for Ferg, I polished mine off easily & barely shared a bite with Francis. Would recommend trying if you have time (we waited for about an hour but the people there were really nice and efficient) read more

Stood inline for about 20 minutes to order and waited another 25 minutes to get couple of hamburgers and fries and onion rings - was it worth it - I would say No not really but the idea of testing what was the fuss was wort it. Onion rings - below average even with specialty sauces Hamburgers - solid average - 3 big stars Fries - average Mulled wine - above average If you order alcoholic beverage you cannot drink outside you have to be inside, standing awkwardly and holding/drinking your drink while peeps chuggle down the burgers :) Would recommend pies above hamburgers!!! Have gotten several pies and all of them were much, much, MUCH better then hamburgers!!! read more

Fergburger is worth the hype. Don't let the long line dissuade you; it'll move rather quickly! All of their burgers are absolutely delicious and juicy. Fries cooked perfectly as well. Also, a perfect spot to go after a night of drinking. read more

QUEENSTOWN BURGER TEST : FERGBURGER vs DEBIL'S BURGER FERGBURGER: The famous Fergburger is located in the middle of town and most of the times pretty crowded. In my case I hab to wait 20 min to order and an not her 20 min till I hab my burver. The taste was excellent and very delicious. Good meat fresh veggies and tasty ssuce. The beer I ordered with the burger was a Sooner for 5$ which is ok. Like: BURGER, nice staff, good quality Dislike: Herds of Tourists (mainly asians) taking pictures of herself me or everybody else while eating. Very ctowded read more
SO we got to queenstown during our New Zealand travels, and as we were heading down shotover street, we noticed a huge queue outside what looked to be a fast food joint. A bit of a yelp stalk later revealed that this place, fergburger, was THE place to get a burger from in nz. Over the next couple of days, we saw people out and about with huge plate size burgers and each time we went past there was a huge queue of people outside, presumably waiting to get one of these giant burgers. So the time came when we decided to queue outside in the cold and see what the big fuss was about. A decent menu selection, not just beef but also lamb, pork and veggie options available. We went down on a Tuesday evening probably about 7pm. We were told once we had queued for about 20 mins that there would be a 40 min wait on food. Considering there are limited tables and the place is so rammed with people standing up you can barely move, we went for a bit of a mooch around queenstown to pass the time. Eventually the time came for us to go back and collect our food, luckily a table cleared just as we were ready to eat so we decided to stay and eat the food while it was still hot. I opted for the fergburger with Swiss cheese. A large patty, bun, salad, cheese and sauce. Right, I know everyone was raving about this place, but I have to admit my favourite part of the burger was the bun. Yes the meat was ok, the ingredients were ok, but that's all it was, ok. The patties are large and juicy but there is nothing defining about their taste. The salad was fresh but had no flavour, the bun was fresh and soft and the best thing about it. I just can't see why people were queuing almost round the block to get in this place ? Overall, we had an ok experience in here. The staff were nice and ran things really well considering how busy it was. The place is clean and there is plenty of drinks choice. I just don't see why it is so popular. If I went back to queenstown I probably wouldn't go back here. I think it's more of a novelty this place than anything else. Sorry ferg ! read more

One of the biggest mistakes I made during my time in New Zealand was not going to Fergburger until my last day in Queenstown. We waited for 30-45 minutes in line just to place our order, but WOW! it was SO worth it. This is easily the best burger joint in all of New Zealand (sorry Velvet Burger, you are a close second in my heart). There are a few things that make Fergburger the best: 1) The menu. Their burger creations are simply more creative and tasty than anywhere else. 2) The variety. Any sort of meat you want on a burger you can find here. 3) The ambiance/friendliness of staff. While waiting in line and for our burgers to be made, the staff behind the counter were SO friendly. They were all from the UK and were chatting with us about our experiences in NZ, what they were doing there, etc. etc. It passed the time really well, and I was sad that the conversations had to end once we finished up our food. Only half of our group came with us that evening, and so when we left town for Milford Sound early the next morning, we placed a pick up order at 4:30 AM for everyone! That's how good it was, we went back the next day at 4:30 in the morning!!! (They're open until 5AM) The first time I went, I got the Sweet Bambi, and while the name is a bit disheartening, the burger certainly isn't. Juicy and delicious meat smothered in a slightly but not-too-sweet sauce. On my second go around in the wee hours of the morning, I went for the Big Al. If you only have time to go once (and you have a healthy appetite like myself), I strongly recommend you go for the Big Al. It's topped with every burger topping imaginable to mankind, along with a huge chunk of meaty goodness. Again, my only regrets are that I didn't go to Fergburger for EVERY meal during my time in Queenstown...it's that good! read more
You're going to go anyway, but it's worth the wait. Take some friends or a book and prepare for a 45 min wait for your food (we went at 230 on a Friday). The staff keeps everyone moving and keeps you updated on expected wait time. You cannot leave with their beer so beware of trying to drink it on the patio outside of their liquor license line. I had the simple cheese burger and fries- massive serving and just a very delicious meal. I suggest getting out of the crazy area and enjoying the lake views /picnic. Beware duck poop and hungry pigeons. read more
The burger was beautifully presented and cooked to perfection- not dry but succulent. I had the gluten free bun and it was delicious. The wait is long but didn't seem terribly long 20-30 minute wait. The place had a long line, but the employees are proficient. Burgers range 11.50-18.50 nzd and that's just for the burger. I'm from the U.S. so you can't come to NZ without trying one! read more
This place is a big draw just for the genuine NZ beef and lamb alone... since I've had lamb and beef else where in NZ, I ordered the Sweet Bambi, which was wild fiordland deer, and found it great. The staff were friendly as Kiwis are known to be... and best of all, their gelato was brilliant!!! Definitely, a place to visit whether you're a tourist or not read more

I knew the long lines must mean something, so my Mom and I braved the crowds to try a Fergburger! Thankfully we arrived around 1:30 so the line wasn't as crazy as we had seen the night before, but we still had to wait about 45 minutes total (including waiting in line and then waiting for our order to be ready). We ordered the Southern Swine (comes with avocado), the Mr. Big Stuff (BBQ sauce), fries and onion rings. We took the order to go because there really weren't that many places to sit. Once we got back to our place we dug in and it was delicious! The meat was tender, the veggies were plentiful and crisp (especially the lettuce), and the sauces were awesome. The fries were thick and crispy, and tasted amazing with the ketchup. The onion rings were perfectly breaded to the point where you could still taste the onion which is exactly how an onion ring should be! :D I now understand why people rave about Fergburger. They do really make some tasty burgers, and as an American far from home it sure hit the spot! read more

Tried several times to order this burger but the long lines discouraged me. Monday morning the line was only 20 minutes. I took 5 burgers home to my family. Seating is extremely limited and this space was filled with folks waiting for their prized burger. My family Fergburger tasting began. On a scale of 1 to 5 here are the rating: 3, 3.5, 5, 4.3 and 4. All ate double cheese beef burgers with sauce, tomatoes & lettuce. The burgers were pleasing to the eye and the bun a bit stale. The amount of meat was extremely generous. Burgers are pricey $14.00 NZ. French Fries were perfect. My group, all Americans, rated IN and Out Burgers as # 1 world wide burger place; however, my husband claimed his burgers on our grill at home were much better. read more

Finally getting around to writing a review.......one year later! When I showed up the place wasn't too crowded, so I only had to wait in line for 10-15 minutes. That was just enough time to finally pick my order. I ordered the Tropical Swine. Right after I ordered I was able to grab a seat at the bar, so decided to dine in. I ordered a small light beer and waited for this massive burger. Everyone was very nice...even though it was packed and everyone was on top of each other. When the burger came, my eyes went wide! I had to cut it in half, no other way for me. It was so delicious! I only ate half at the restaurant and then gave up my seat to enjoy the view by the water. The line was super long once I left. I ended up eating the other half in the park by the water.....that was kind of a mistake because I am definitely all Ferg Burgered out now. haha Definitely give this place a try! read more
