Last year, she persuaded us to buy some for the road on the way back from Big Bend, and they were awesome. Carne asada, barbacoa...she had all types, and they hit the spot. Before leaving, she asked us to please stop by in the future for some more tacos during our annual trips to west Texas/Big Bend. So we did this year, and there were no tacos. I don't know if the tiny town of Sanderson was hit hard by the economy bust, and that's partly why she doesn't make tacos for the workers any more, but they were greatly missed. We bought an iced tea from the glass cooler instead and went on our way. I'll still give Aurora 4 stars in memory of those tacos and how persuasively sweet she was. And I'll still probably stop by every year in the hopes that there will be another sign on the door that says "tacos available at 6am".

It was worth the effort... I had both the Mexican hot chocolate and the matcha. Very yummy, and just the energy I needed early in the morning for the drives to Big Bend NP and back to Amarillo, respectively. A friend got the yogurt and fruit and found it very filling with a side of breakfast potatoes. On both days I got a burrito. They added avocado and sour cream which gave just the right touch to an already delicious burrito. The staff was so friendly and answered questions about menu items and customizing options. The house kitty was also very friendly. The cafe is small, but there was no problem with seating early in the morning. The artwork on the walls is interesting and western in theme. Everything was warm, clean and inviting. This is definitely the place to stop when you're in the area.

There's a small beer and wine section, a small produce section, and of course they have plenty of pre packaged food and drinks in the back. They had pet food and gardening stuff in the front too. It's nice to have a little place like this in Study Butte for the community; I'd bet if you go a little farther eg into Terlingua there are other spots but this grocery store is like less than 10 mins from the entrance to big bend so it's very convenient if you need to pick something up on the way in or out of the park!

I was…read moreglad we stopped in Marathon because it's got a lot of cool stuff on its "main st" style strip, and while the French Company Grocer isn't fancy, it is surprisingly well-stocked with pretty much anything you could think of wanting to bring with you while you're camping or "glamping" in this beautiful part of Texas! The staff were also super nice and helpful, and we couldn't resist getting some of their homemade cookies that were absolutely delicious. If they have the cherry cookies while you're there, grab one! Heck, grab five and enjoy one while you're strolling down the strip of unique shops, just make sure you finish before you head into the little art gallery and gift shop, which is also a must-see!

The service was excellent, and the atmosphere struck a perfect balance--clean and contemporary, yet quiet enough for real conversation, with plenty of space to sit and linger. I didn't get a chance to ask who roasts their coffee, but the light roast was impressively smooth, almost tea-like, with none of the bitterness you'd expect. I also ordered a mocha latte and loved that they make their syrups in-house--the freshness really comes through, a welcome change from the usual plastic-bottle pumps.
