MKC is the best residential contractor I have worked with in my 30 years of home ownership. MKC employs a process with heavy emphasis on planning the work up front followed by quality execution by the craftsmen. Scott (owner of MKC) honestly strives to land each project with the highest quality work done at a reasonable price. My project was mainly to remodel a kitchen and master bathroom. Additionally, we removed two walls (one load bearing), replaced 1/2 the house windows, addressed two different legacy structural issues, replaced fireplace, all interior doors, all baseboard and trim, all flooring and about a dozen other upgrades (add ceiling fans, add additional door, replace garage door header, toilet in 2nd bath, etc.). Basically, I received a new house. The work was completed in a little over 4 months as planned adding time for the new scope and structural issues. The cost was as expected. MKC costs were nearly exact to expected. Material costs were higher than planned due to our selection of materials vs assumed. Viktor showed up on the early side of the 3-5pm window and shot me a call and text when he was about 20 minutes away. He is super friendly and knowledgeable, as soon as he saw it was KitchenAid he said he was 90% sure it was a common issue but not serious one that he sees often in KA units and sure enough it was! He gave me some great tips on how to maintain the dishwasher as well and also suggested a couple of dishwashers to consider in the future. He then took a look at our fridge and gave me a couple of pointers on maintaining it, but also shared because it's a built-in replacing it will be $10-$15 for a new unit and suggested a couple of refurbish services they can do for much less but also said it's not needed yet. Although Dvorson's appears to have an easy to use, detailed info website, I didn't use it because they are based in a city near where I live. I was a bit intimidated by their showroom as they appeared to be a wholesaler to commercial business's. The truth is they will gladly help anyone, with anything, with any budget. The business is 2nd generation, family owned and run by Josh and his wife who obviously learned their customer service skills from people who operated a business in the 50's, 60's & 70's when the phrase customer service meant something more than, " can you hold please". Besides assisting me in determining the correct sizes and types of shelving I would need (there were at least 10 options) Josh took my order and cash right in the showroom and had the shelving materials delivered to my house for a reasonable charge. Now for what prompted me to right a review; Because of the size and weight of the shelving I ordered, Josh used an LTL shipper. Having worked in the moving industry I knew what that was but neglected to tell my wife before leaving town what was going to transpire. LTL means less than truckload (multiple small shipments in the same truck.) All LTL drivers are paid to get to get to a location, drop off a pallet (either on a dock, driveway or sometimes street) and leave. At 11:00am, with pending rain, 6 heavy cardboard boxes on a pallet in my driveway, I received a frantic call from my wife who said, "WTF" I called Josh, who answered my frantic call with the same calm professionalism I received in his showroom and said, " let me send someone over to help out." W O W! I should have been more surprised by his response but that's the way things used to be in America, and I, like Josh, grew up in a family who owned a small business where our parents modeled the behavior necessary to really use phrases like, What can I do to help you today?
