I had a Schlage key copied here and when I got home, I discovered that the key did not work. I went back, had the original copied again, and the new key didn't work either. It's unfortunate that two different experienced employees could not copy a standard key correctly. Not recommended. read more

One of the last old fashioned and hard-working hardware stores still in existence. Lots of people are there each day with jobs ranging from big to tiny. The guys who work here really know their stuff and their inventory. You can go in there with a small part, lightbulb or other random piece and chances are, you'll walk out with a new one, instructions on how to fix it or other help. They also give out dog biscuits so all the local dogs like touring their owners by. Easy street parking and I believe the building used to be the old schoolhouse in Sausalito (it just was moved from the hill). read more

This is a great store and I am glad that we still have these Mom and Pop stores around. One of the reasons a lot of people go to big stores like Hope Depot is because of the supposed "selection." Well Waterstreet Hardware is literally stacked to the ceiling with anything you could possibly need. They have a variety of other services as well. I've been here a couple times since moving to Sausalito and the people are incredibly nice and helpful! Definitely beats going to an Ace Hardware or any other chain... They surprisingly have anything you could possibly need at this store, and if they don't have it, they will find it and order it for you. Oh, and it only costs $2.00 to get keys made! This is the BEST hardware store ever! I'm not kidding. It's also small but somehow they ALWAYS have everything I need. One time I brought my suitcase in to see what kind of screw I needed for the little foot on the bottom that was half broken off. Well...not only did they find the right screw but the woman who was working that day tugged, grunted and yanked the little foot off, repaired it, then screwed it back on. I couldn't have gotten that much help at the shoe repair across the street, (that's another story ..) They have helped me with so many little projects so I baked them a chocolate cake last summer. I went back in the next day to pick up my plate and there it was with a piece of cake still on it. They saved a piece for one of the employees who loves chocolate cake. Who does that? Helpful and they look out for each other. What a place!!! read more

Next to art supplies, I love checking out stuff one can use to create other stuff. I can't remember the last time I was in a hardware store this tiny, yet so thoroughly packed to the rafters. Walk in, stand anywhere, and try to take it all in--wow! The people who work here are very nice, and give us one more excuse to try and skip the big box stores further up the freeway. Even when you think there is no way this little store is going to have what you're looking for in stock....they have it and two other options you didn't even know about. "Yes we have that in brass, but wouldn't stainless steel be better for your purpose?" Is there anything one could want and not find it in this place? It's stocked floor to ceiling with every conceivable item you might require for the house. Ok, maybe they don't have bidets and those fancy Japanese commodes that shoot warm water into your crevices but then Home Chepo doesn't either. In a pinch? A bind? Kitchen sink backed up? Toilet not responding to the plunger? Go to this place and ask the old timers who own and work at the place. Two old Sausalito dudes that represent the way things were and indeed the way things should be. Support local businesses!
