This is the first time I've ever thought to do a review in this format, but once my mom mentioned leaving a review, I realized it was the most raw and honest thing I could possibly do. If they changed her personality forever, I am going to be extremely upset. Mostly because there is NOTHING we can do about it. We had a cat once who was given a piece of a food from a kitchen table, and he was never the same ever again. The vet kept calling her "food motivated" but the thing is, she never was before this moment. I felt like I didn't have the power to say anything because she was the "expert." I will never make this mistake again with my baby. Please Ms. Vet, GET CONSENT before you give someone else's animal treats like this. You DID NOT ask for our permission, and we felt trapped and silenced by your nervous energy and non stop talking. Even if you are the expert, that doesn't give you the right to override how other people choose to raise their pet, or assume they want your opinion. We came for medical care, plain and simple.

I made the switch over from a 5-6 year vet to Fern Hill. My first visit was very pleasant. My anxious dog had to be muzzled but the vet had offered peanut butter within the muzzle which really distracted her and helped her anxiety. Thank you (and sorry) to the staff who had to clean up all the peanut butter on the ground when we left. I did see reviews of how this establishment upsells you on treatments and things that are unnecessary but I declined on some and there were no concerns/comments that made me feel like I was being forced. I really appreciate that the scheduling/front desk personnel is very quick and on their toes when I call to inquire on appointments. Thanks again!

Dr. Larson & her staff were amazing! I was able to get a same day appointment for my service dog who injured his toe/toe nail. The office returned my voicemail minutes after they opened! They accommodated us by doing the procedure in the room so he didn't have to be separated from me, noticed he had a slower than normal heart rate & took extra precautions to ensure he could safely go under anesthesia. He was given a blanket to lay on, treats for being such a good boy & helped me load him back up into my car..he's over 100 lbs. The team was so tentative, positive & patient. I can't thank everyone enough for taking such good care of my boy. This was my second visit in a year & both times they've done an amazing job.

We Highly recommend Fern Hill Veterinary Care! Just 3 weeks ago our 7.5 year old bulldog Nala was bloated, not eating and not acting herself. Our regular vet couldn't see her for another week and she obviously couldn't wait that long. I went down a list of veterinary offices within our area, Fern Hill was 12th on the list of distance from us and the first to say they could see her the same day. We scheduled the appointment and from the second we walked in everyone was so friendly and treated us like family. Nala needed blood work and X-rays to start which determined emergency surgery. They were able to do surgery the same day, she stayed over night at a separate hospital for IV antibiotics and close observation. Fern Hill checked in with the overnight hospital the next morning to check on Nala and again called me to check in over the next couple days to make sure she was doing well with recovery. They stayed in touch through her entire recovery. We came home from our appointment this morning after having her staples removed and I have to say, in the most awful situation to be in, we had the best experience possible. Nala was so excited to see everyone and loved all of the attention she got while we were there today. I knew Nala was in good hands there and we're thankful to have her home and healthy! Their staff is all so incredibly friendly, you can see their love for your fur babies, they went above and beyond for our family. They were comforting in a time where I was upset and also scared. The biggest thank you to everyone at Fern Hill Veterinary Care!

I just like them. Vet care is expensive, but I didn't feel pressured. I felt supported in my decisions for my cats.

Tears were flowing BIG time but the vet was kind and comforting. A family friend, Shannon, happens to work here as well and having her there made all the difference. She spoiled our dog with yummy snacks and loved on her along with the rest of us as we said our goodbyes. You can truly tell how much the employees here love animals. Although I wish this appointment never had to happen, it went as well as it possibly could have. Once all was said and done, we never felt rushed out of the room. We sat and shared stories, gave our girl love, and cried some more. Shannon was very generous and gave us each a little bag filled with fur. One of the more unsettling parts of losing a pet is leaving them behind for the final time, but everyone assured us that even though she had passed, our dog would not be left in the room alone. They took great care of her and us. I never want this day to come with our other pets, but when it does, I feel good knowing the team here will handle it with just as much love and care.

I believe it is because he is getting ready to retire so he has stopped truly caring about the pets he is treating. I contacted the clinic yesterday and was told in order to talk to the Dr. I had to have a phone appt. It was $85, I talked to the vet for 5 minutes. He prescribed 4 anti anxiety pills for my dog that is injured, has not eaten or drank anything for 5 days and can't walk. I can't get a leash on him as he is partially feral. Vet said one pill will knock him out. No, over 7 hours I gave him all 4 pills because he was having no response to the drugs. When I called later to talk to the vet and maybe have him prescribe something stronger, he wouldn't call me and just had the receptionist call me. She said "he will not give you any more medications and to call Animal Control". What? No, Animal Control is not responsible for picking up owners dogs. Never has been and never will be. I am not sure why the vet did not know this since he is/was a vet. May I say 'duh'? When I told the inexperienced and horribly rude person on the phone I would not be back, she hung up on me. I did not cuss and did not yell so why? I have given this vet at least $2000 this year alone and that was just for 2 teeth cleanings on tiny dogs. If you go to this clinic, this situation is going to happen to you and your pet/pets eventually. There are at least 3 other vets in the immediate area. I won't be going back there. Ever.

And an even longer two or three weeks before that fighting to get him to eat. Like others here, Kevin was closer to me than my human family. I was busy with the doctors in ER so my partner called in to make the appointment to ease my stress. He said I was primary contact, but it was difficult to make that clear all the way until the day so communications were continually going to him. Not a big deal in the overall picture, but it didn't make the experience any easier. This was my cat for 8 years before I met my partner and while he loved my baby, I was the one with the lifelong bond. The doctor showed up within the time window allotted. We both found her a little cold. I felt like we were just a job and everything was done by number. My BF picked up my cat and carried him to me, but the doctor said we should do paperwork first which resulted in me putting him down after building up to do what I deemed impossible. I was emotional and crying. This really should somehow be handled before the visit. There were corrections to be made on the form. I was about to lose my baby and this only made me aware that I was filling out his death warrant. I am utterly heartbroken. I know holding your baby until the last minute is catharsis and closure, but I found it traumatizing. His passing was peaceful at least. Everyone's goodbye will be unique, and my example will not necessarily match what others experience. Everyone we spoke to was professional. I just wasn't feeling the compassion.

However, I was never advised to have sedation meds on hand--something that turned out to be essential for what I needed: a proper blood draw for my 15-year-old cat who has been losing weight. The vet arrived on time and was very friendly, which I appreciated. They performed a very basic exam and attempted a blood draw by wrapping my cat in a towel and offering her treats, without any sedation or local numbing. The vet seemed nervous and missed three attempts at drawing blood, then abruptly said they wouldn't try any other methods and that "this is all we can do." I asked if they could administer sedation and come back once it took effect. I was told Gabapentin could work, but that it had to be given the night before--which turned out to be false. A different vet later informed me it only needs 2-3 hours to take effect. I was especially frustrated because I'm leaving town May 20 to arrange my father's funeral, and this appointment was meant to ensure my cat was cared for while I'm gone. Instead, I was charged $250, given 10 Gabapentin pills, and told I'd need to reschedule and pay again--including another full exam fee--to repeat the entire visit. They were polite, but this experience left me incredibly disappointed, with zero resolution. Now I have to go to another vet, pay another exam fee, and get a blood panel done--putting me at an estimated $750-$1,000 just to get basic bloodwork for a senior cat. The lack of clear instructions, poor communication, and unwillingness to follow through on essential care was unacceptable. I cannot recommend this unacceptable service.
