A little review. I headed out to Beer & Wine Hobby in Woburn expecting inflated prices and dude…read morebros talking over me in the hopes of buying a few packs of yeast. I was pleasantly surprised and way overspent my budget Prices are cheaper than Amazon on many things and only SLIGHTLY higher on other items. I could have gotten my mini auto siphon for the same price. Bottle wands are the same price. Bungs are a little over $1 each and airlocks are $1.50, so cheaper than Amazon unless buying in bulk. In fact everything is pretty close to Amazon, and in the case of glassware- cheaper. (and safer.) The 1gal jars I use for kombucha are under $7 each. Making a case $28. I paid $20 on Amazon for 2 booch jars. Glass 1gal carboys are also just under $7. You have to buy a growler cap for them separately. Or just get a universal bung. They have cheesemaking supplies, kombucha and kefir cultures plus all the right parts for getting those things fermenting right. I might've found my new favorite place.

My novice beer making setup kind of died (my fault in storage) so when I feel upon a deal that would give me a little reminder class and a whole new setup I jumped at it. YAY! Still, there's a place by me that blows this place out of the water when it comes to supplies, so, you know, there's that.

I live right across the street from The Butchery, so I go there a couple times a month. Overall,…read moreit's a decent place, but not somewhere I'd regularly go for full grocery shopping. The prices are definitely on the higher side, which makes it feel more like a specialty shop than a typical grocery store. That said, they do have a really wide selection of meats and cheeses, which is probably their biggest strength. If you're looking for something specific or higher quality, it's a good place to check out. The store itself is smaller than a regular grocery store. One thing that stood out to me was an experience close to closing time--about 10 minutes before they closed, the cashier kept reminding us how little time was left and even told a story about someone coming in right before closing. It felt a bit rushed and slightly uncomfortable. Overall, it's an okay place--good for specialty items, but a bit expensive and not ideal for everyday shopping.

I picked up a ribeye which was fairly priced but not inexpensive. I was very disappointed. While it was well marbled it lacked any flavor. I don't know if this is just the beef available today. But certainly wasn't worth the price. Not a reflection on the Butchery more on the state of what has happened for no apparent reason since the pandemic. Pay tons more for a lot less!

Of course they're not huge like Kappy's but that means there's a focus on quality instead of filling shelf space with cheap booze. If you're buying from these guys you're going in for something good to enjoy - not just something to exclusively get hammered with "on the cheap". The store is clean, organized & upbeat. Sometimes liquor stores can be dirty, dark, seedy, unkempt, uncomfortable....Depot is not like that at all & the staff is friendly & helpful. I'm sure they know I'm a nerdy lightweight (my exclusive purchase is hard cider, so right there you know I'm not super "experienced" - ha ha) ---but they've always made solid recommendations & never made me feel "stupid" for not being familiar with certain items. They've always been open to researching things if you ask & carrying them. Great variety too! Great vibes. Great stuff. Fair pricing. And their sandwich board signs out front are clever & hilarious. Liquor store with good stuff, wit & personality? Sold. Also----they were a highly recommended mention on WBZ's Conisseur's Corner with Jordan Rich for having a SOLID & **EXCELLENT** choice of craft beers on the North Shore. That says something. Please stay away from the Woodchuck Cider. It's mine. :)
