Here's what ensued: Ordered via Drizly Order delivered 1-2 hours late Order was missing one of two items Order was still charged at full price Drizly took days to reply and only informed us that we had a refund for the missing item which was (shocker) not in stock Can't imagine there's much worse than placing an order for a birthday gift delivery, it being delivered late and incomplete, and being overcharged. Called all over the Northshore looking for a hard to find Whiskey. Total Wine hasn't had it in 8 weeks. No place had it. Even drove to the NH State Store - saw one guy walking around with a bottle and he said he found it on a shelf misplaced. Good luck getting waited on if you are a woman at Kappy's in Peabody. I am still fuming from being refused serviced by "John" at Kappy's in Peabody. John was enjoying a wonderful, long chat with his buddy while at the cashier station at Kappy's. Meanwhile the other cashier on duty was cashing out a large liquor order in the other line when her scanner malfunctioned causing her line build up. I interrupted John a few times to get help when his friend realized he was talking too much and politely excused himself. With his friend gone, I moved into that cashier line when John abruptly turned on his heal and left, leaving me dumfounded that my order was not going to be cashed out by this guy who turned out to be the manager. Word to John, if you stand at the cash register customers are going to assume you are working, so why don't ya? read more

Every time I come here now there is one less item I like that is no longer carried. Seems to me pretty soon this store will have a gas station lineup of beers - Miller, Bud, Heineken, that's it. Some exotic liquors are still there, but priced much higher than competitors. I really don't like giving this review but after my last few visits, it seems Kappy's as a whole isn't cutting it for me. I love you, Kappy's Peabody. You're prices are decent, your selection is huge, and your giant sign is always visible in the distance when I need a beacon of hope in the night. I've always been able to find anything I've needed in here without much trouble. Yeah, the parking lot can be a chaotic situation, but I haven't seen a liquor store on the North Shore that compares to this one, so I'll deal. I live far enough away from here that I wouldn't use this as my "I'm just going to run out to pick up a bottle of wine" store, but it's certainly worth coming here if you're stocking up on things. One minor complaint and that is, the entryway REEKS of old nasty beer. The bottle/can return is just inside the door and you have to walk through to enter the store. It'd be nice if this were a separate entity. Do yourself a favor and hold your breath until you get in the store itself. read more

Kappy's is what I imagine heaven looks like. Every kind of spirit you could possibly imagine, placed in neat, clean rows, for your perusal! They even have Elmer T. Lee! My favorite bourbon! Which you pretty much have to special-order at any other liquor store in New England! And everything is CHEAP! And I don't mean "less than buying it at a bodega" cheap. I mean, so cheap you feel guilty buying any liquor at any other store ever after shopping at Kappy's. Who cares about the parking? I'd walk three miles in a blizzard for such a selection at such a good price. Kappy's sets the standard for liquor stores in the area. Pros: - I'm not kidding about everything. They even have ginger wine, which I found exactly once before in a pub in England where it was a funny-looking bottle in the corner. - The prices are so reasonable. - They have great deals for people throwing big parties. I'm getting married in a month and for the alcohol, we're buying a huge amount of beer and wine from Kappy's because they said whatever we don't use, they'll buy back. Pretty much the most perfect arrangement we could think of. Cons: - There aren't more of them. I wish there was one in every town so I would never have to settle for a more mediocre place. Went there this past weekend to pick up a 6 pack for a friend's birthday party and was pleasantly reminded of how much of a selection this location has. Granted the parking lot is a pain especially when it's busy,which it being 7PM it was mobbed on a Saturday night. But well worth it and convenient to almost anywhere on the North Shore. We wound up with a 6 pack of Sea Dog Blueberry Ale after having to compromise---I wanted Blackberry Wheat from Long Trail, my husband wanted something similar but not blackberry so we stumbled upon this. The best part about their beer selection is you can get the same thing either warm or cold. Which is convenient for any occasion, and great prices too! We also got a 1.5L bottle of Rex Goliath Wine for a great deal too! I love this Kappy's and make it a point to go here on my way into the North Shore or around it for things like this! read more

Excellent customer service. The beer and spirits section has a lot of local small batch micro brands, as well as you more mainstream brands. I am not a huge wine connoisseur, but they have a large variety of domestic and international. Typically there is always 1-3 procurement people that have a good knowledge of what's available and have suggestions for specific customer preferences. Ordering kegs here has been cinch, good selection for 1/6 kegs of specialty beers from a few different distributors for beers from East and West Coast. Kappys = big store full of booze. All kinds, sizes, flavors, deals! Wine discounts - 2 for $10. I usually judge a place on their Oyster Bay - $10. That is pretty good. I've seen it for $9, I've seen it for $14, so $10 is a good deal. Plus they always have specials on other varieties. One of the best things they have (and they have a larger stock during the holiday season) is gift packaged liquor. So they had Gosslings Rum packaged with Ginger Beer and a mug and had it in a nice Dark and Stormy deal. Typically its the same price as just what the bottle would cost too. You don't find a lot of help here, but they certainly have the selection and good value. They also have a redemption center here as well. read more

Anarchy at it's finest. A decent sized parking lot and it's always full. If you come here on a saturday or sunday expect to wait in long lines. This is the insanity known as Peabody Kappys. I do like their selection of beers and fridge selections. The store is pretty clean for a liquor store and once in a while they have a police detail inside which is good for safety I suppose. I don't like going here on weekends but if I need to I just bite my lip and brace for the traffic. The store is also very well laid out. I have not been disappointed by any visit to Kappy's. Everytime I go, I am able to find something! Went here while on vacation as I do anywhere I travel to browse & find those hard to get items back at home. Went late one night & cut it close with the closing time but staff was amazing. Great service & when I asked about something I didn't see on the shelf they check & brought it up front & informed me they had several more but I can only buy one at a time. I understand this as this is the case with most places with hard to get items. I was told to come back the next day & I could get more. When I went in the next day there was a totally different staff on hand & were extremely rude. When I walked in & asked for 2 separate items I was told were in stock just the night before I was told immediately that they didn't have it. After I told them I knew they did they refused to even check to see. Nothing makes me more upset than being lied to. If there spoken for then fine just be a man and say so, don't lie to me. read more

I stop by on my way home from work during the week and never have problems with long wait times in line. Update: I have nothing but respect for the owner of this Kappys. He went out of his way to send me a message detailing store policy and apologizing for the situation last night. It seems IDs are generally required for every member of the party under 40, but managers and cashiers are given leeway to make common sense judgment calls. He also noted that this will be a teachable moment for staff. I personally need to apologize because I missed the signs detailing the ID policy. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Worst experience imaginable. In short, my 27 year old male friend couldn't buy alcohol because I, a 29 year old female, didn't have MY ID. No explanation was given. We were treated like criminals. Long story below. I will never be back due to the absolute rudeness of the staff from the cashiers to the management. And... I look my age or a little older. I've NEVER had this happen at any other liquor store in Massachusetts. Long Version: I have worked in customer service. Let me make this very clear. This was the worst experience I have ever had in a store, anywhere. And speaking as a former customer service professional, there was no excuse for this. I'm a 29 year old female. I was not buying liquor. My friend brought me in to give him advice. We WERE, I repeat WERE, thinking of spending over a hundred here on expensive gins. I suggested he try a few out as nips first to see some of what he liked. This is where it went south. We were trying to make our trip quick because we walked in the store at 9:50 and didn't want to be those people. We quickly made our way to the nip wall. The cashiers were just surly and full of attitude. I don't say that lightly. I know what it is like to have customers come in at closing. They seemed like they were just like this all the time. I advised my friend to get two each of the three gin nips they offered so he could try out his mixed drinks with them before getting the bigger $40 or higher bottles. He asked the woman for them, she grabbed them grumpily from the wall. He showed his ID, he's 27. Me (I'm 29 and look at least 30), was standing next to him. She DEMANDS my ID. What? Anywhere else I have ever been in Massachusetts, people accompanying you in the store do not need to provide ID unless they are obviously underage. She gave NO explanation, gave me the evil eye, and said he couldn't buy his nips unless I gave my ID. My ID was at home, I wasn't planning on buying or drinking so I didn't bring it. I explained I'm 29, not buying them, and asked why they needed my ID. She just repeated that she couldn't sell HIM liquor without MY ID. Then she called the manager over to judge whether my friend looked 27 because "he knows male faces better". My friend had his ID and had given it to her. They didn't need to judge his age. The manager comes over and looks at my friends ID and studies his face. Then looks at me like I'm some criminal and asks where my ID is. Again NO EXPLANATION as to why they need MY ID for my FRIEND to buy 6 NIPS!!! 6 NIPS!!! At this point I walked out because I was literally that outraged. If this is just a Kappy's policy to ask for the ID of every member of the group, rather than just the purchaser, I would have been fine with that. But to my knowledge it isn't and they weren't even polite enough to explain their store policy. I also didn't see it posted anywhere at the register. My friend said she then rang him out and balled up his receipt without even asking if he wanted it. Then when he asked for it, she just gave him the balled up receipt. If there had been some explanation or they had treated us a bit better, I wouldn't be so upset. The only thing I can possibly think of that could have caused this is that I was wearing no makeup and was in gym clothes. Maybe they just thought I was low class and wanted to hassle me. I make salary at a good job, but I wasn't wearing one of my suits or nice casual clothes because it had been a long day and this was a last minute errand. With how full of attitude the cashiers were, it is completely possible they just wanted to give me grief because I didn't fit their image of a classy female. I've seen holier-than-thou co-workers do this in the past when I worked minimum wage jobs in college. Sad but common. As it is, I will NEVER go here again. I will either go to a specialty store or BJs (Strange I know, but they have Glenfiddich, Johnnie Walker Blue Label, etc for very nice prices). The only reason I stopped here in the first place was that BJs had closed for the evening. My mistake. Glad we only gave Kappy's $10 on the sale. read more

If you like being falsely accused of petty theft after you pick up a 12 pack, this is your place. I stopped into this location on a Saturday afternoon, and after my purchase, the manager (I say this because he was wearing a shirt and tie) ran into the parking lot and accused me of stealing a nip. Apparently 'another customer had seen me place it in my pocket.' Shoplifting - for an item that costs a dollar, no less - is a heck of a thing to accuse someone of, especially when you didn't see it with your own two eyes. Our bald hero and protector of justice refused to believe that I hadn't stolen the item until I emptied out my pockets to prove that there was nothing there. I'm honestly surprised he didn't try to frisk and detain me. Really humiliating in front of a parking lot full of people. Not really the level of customer service (or human decency) that I've come to expect as a frequent customer of Kappy's. I hope that the phantom dollar that he thinks I stole was important, because I'll never patronize this location - or any other Kappy's location for that matter - again. read more

Enormous. Glorious. Huge. This is one of "THE" Kappy's. Unbeatable wine and beer selection. This place has hard liquors you've never even HEARD of before. Some in swanky collectors bottles behind glass displays lit up like a museum piece. Or take a look at their beers - you'll find stuff you can't find anywhere else. I have only great things to say about Kappys. I am not a wine lover, and by no stretch am I anything remotely close to a connaiseur of the finer things. I was in recently looking for my standard 30 pack of Busch Light, and when I couldn't find it a very funny staff member helped me out. His comment, "The world could end before we run out of Busch Light." He was funny and not condescending which says a lot these days. I tell all my friends about Kappys in Peabody.
