Old trees, charm, all the houses nearby are different - my Grandma - a fairly well off city girl from Europe approved - and I can see why. Coming to the USA with nothing but two suitcases and 3 kids she quickly worked her way up to the Land Park neighborhood. A stunning house with 4 car garage, metal roof and pool. She loved old Sacramento and looked down on village or town or junky places. She too good for that. Piggy was too good for that. The romantic river once had the pirate boat shows - pig pig loved them. The old bridge - I love driving over that. Come here stretch your legs - now is the perfect time before it heats up for the summer.

But I have to say that after we left iFly and were heading for an after-party at the Almond Tree Lounge (Almond), the LAST thing I expected to be doing was Line-Dancing! THE SETUP In fact, it's a little misleading to be calling this a "lounge" if you are looking for a QUIET, chill place to relax, and regroup, and catch up with friends (without having to YELL). Well, be-that-as-it-may, the Almond was a wild-ass fun time, even if it exploded into my face like a GIANT FRIENDLY FART! (You know what I'm saying?) ;) Mad Props to uber-Yelper John H. for organizing this fest-of-fun and making it so convenient for us to hit after the iFly Yelp Elite Event (YEE)! DANCING! First off, when you enter the Almond, you are walking RIGHT PAST the band and then the dance floor, so it's impossible to be discreet about your entrance: all-eyes-on-YOU! But the dance floor is big and smooth (no potholes) and fun to dance on! I even got to uber-Elite Lucy out there for some Country-Western Swing and we had a great time. THE DRINKS! OH my GAWD! Sometimes you have to order a specific drink (like when I'm in Spokane, or Bishop, or Coeur d'Alene ) that is calle the "mind-eraser" to make sure it's packing a wallop! NOPE. Not here! I simply ordered a standard Jack & Coke, and that puppy was able to put me on my ass (I THINK the coke was added merely to get a BIT of coloring in the glass!) Alas, since I didn't feel like borrowing anyone's offspring, and drive-in movies aren't my gig, I'll be honest and say I drove all the way out to 50 & Bradshaw from Natomas to claim my Yelp Elite "Macy's Great American Drive In" goodie bag. So, I got there at about 6pm (gates didn't open until 6:30pm), and I was third in line. Gates opened promptly on time, and my Yelp Elite ticket got me my goodie bag. My haul included what's pictured in the avatar for this event: Macy's Great American Drive In canvas bag, frisbee, light-up yo-yo, and light-up ring, along with a Macy's savings pass, a bag of Cracker Jacks, and a cool Macy's blanket. And, gosh, can't forget the $10 Macy's gift card! Quite the haul, and totally worth the drive from Natomas :) I did park for a bit, and noticed a nice bouncy-house thing being utilized by multiple kiddies. Also saw that a few food trucks were there: Smoothie Patrol, OMG Burger, and OM Karmabile. If I wasn't already stuffed from eating at Krush Burger earlier, I would have partaken in one of those offerings, but it was nice that they were there. All in all, this event was nicely done. The Crocker Art Museum was a place I had always wanted to visit. I've been eyeing it for the last…read morefew years since moving to Sacramento, and finally, the opportunity came when my husband and I purchased tickets to a classical music concert series there. We arrived early so we could explore the museum before the concert, and I'm so glad we did! The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, and check-in was very easy. They give you a sticker indicating whether you're a member, patron, or attending for the concert. The best part? Our concert tickets included admission to the museum, so we got a wonderful two-for-one experience. We started on the third floor and worked our way down, just as the staff recommended. There was SO much to see! I loved the variety of exhibitions and the incredible use of color. There were works ranging from modern and contemporary pieces to Baroque and classical art, along with beautiful geometric pottery and so many different artistic styles. It was truly a nonstop feast for the eyes. The museum itself was peaceful, quiet, clean, and very well organized. I also appreciated that there are very clean bathrooms conveniently located on each floor. We eventually made our way down toward the concert venue, although we didn't have enough time to completely explore the second floor. That just gives us another reason to come back! The concert was held in a relatively small venue, which made the experience feel incredibly intimate and almost like being in someone's beautiful home. The concert featured a violinist and pianist who performed continuously for just under an hour, with very short breaks between pieces. It was absolutely magical and beautiful. The audience was respectful and wonderfully quiet throughout the performance, which made the experience even more special. The musicians were also local to California, which was a lovely touch. The only thing we missed was the café. Since our concert was at 3 p.m. on a Sunday, we were actually getting pretty hungry by the time the concert started, but the café had already closed at 3. So if you're planning to spend the day here, I recommend grabbing a snack or something to eat before the café closes. Overall, we had such a beautiful day at the Crocker. I especially loved seeing the historic Crocker Mansion alongside the continuously changing exhibitions. It's a wonderful combination of history, architecture, art, and music all in one place. Whether you're a Sacramento local or visiting from out of town, I highly recommend adding the Crocker Art Museum to your list. We'll definitely be back -- and next time, we're making sure to see that second floor!
