Very romantic place - I loved visiting here with my pig pig - perfect for a hot date night. Old Sacramento is good fun - it is different from the typical McDonald's, Walmart, Costco cities that are carbon copied now everywhere with cookie clone houses. Old trees, charm, all the houses nearby are different - my Grandma - a fairly well off city girl from Europe approved - and I can see why. Coming to the USA with nothing but two suitcases and 3 kids she quickly worked her way up to the Land Park neighborhood. A stunning house with 4 car garage, metal roof and pool. She loved old Sacramento and looked down on village or town or junky places. She too good for that. Piggy was too good for that. The romantic river once had the pirate boat shows - pig pig loved them. The old bridge - I love driving over that. This is a fun place to walk around, and enjoy some unique boutique shops and eateries. There is also a great deal of history and museums that have something for all ages. The only place that I would stay clear of is Joe's Crab Shack. It is in a prime location, but the food there is not very good. The Old Sacramento waterfront is sometimes a bustling hub and sometimes a relaxed place you can just wander and enjoy the views. I like to walk here and listen to the water and watch the boats move through the river. I also love the views of the Tower Bridge off in the distance. Parking can be a headache, but there are some good seafood spots and you could even do a river cruise. There's just something about hanging out near the water that feels grounding and peaceful and I always enjoy my walks and times in this area. read more

We were here this past Sunday to see the tree being installed. I was surprised to learn that it's a real tree. All these years I thought it was a fake tree. It wasn't fully decorated when we were there, but it's really coming along. I went back this past Wednesday, and they were still adding decorations to the tree. It's a long process to get the tree ready for it big reveal. We were told that they will have the tree lighting the day after Thanksgiving, November 26, 2025. We'll try to be there to enjoy the festivities of the season. We love walking down to the Old Sacramento Waterfront. We come here mostly for Skalet Jewelers and the museums. We have the NARM pass for the museums so we can come as many times as we want for a single membership price. It's well worth it as we can get into the Train Museum and Sacramento History Museum in Old Sac and we can go across the street to the Crocker Museum. read more

Visited December 17th and 18th. There is so much to see and do at the old waterfront in Sacramento! You have museums...trains..boat cruises..all in walking distance to this wholesome place! They have 5 star restaurants such as Vs Paradise and The Firehouse plus more casual places like Joe's Crab Shack. It is kiddo friendly with old time candy shops as well! If you want to slow down the pace and relax come here! I stay at the Delta King when visiting and walk around at night feeling totally safe ( well lit ). I worked at one of the very popular restaurants here in the late 70s when business was booming. There were numerous excellent restaurants to choose from they all had really great happy hours. Most of the shops were quite well done also. My sister worked below the restaurant at Evangeline's which was unique at that time. It now has tripled in size and is more or less a Halloween shop. Fortunately, when I brought my grandson today, they were closed. They had a fire in June. I guess they're still recovering from it so we walked around and looked at other shops and they were all not very wonderful and overpriced. It's sad to see the decline of this once booming area. I will come back when Evangelines is back open again. Thank God, the Firehouse restaurant is still there which is one of the best restaurants in town and has been there well over 60 years. read more

I was not expecting to enjoy my visit here so much. But it was such a vibe. We went on a Friday afternoon and it wasn't busy at all. We parked on the street in meters, so we had to remember to switch blocks after 3 hours, but it wasn't a hassle. There was so much to see, it would be easy to spend a day there. We visited the train museum and also the history museum while there. We went to the train museum first, and I brought my ticket to the history museum and they gave me half off of my ticket which was cool. There are plenty of places to eat and shop. Or you can have a nice time just enjoying the old buildings. The main streets are cobblestone and the sidewalks are wood. Definitely check it out if you're in the area. read more

We spent a pleasant day exploring the many restaurants, bars, and shops, a pleasant riverwalk, and many historic sites of Old Sacramento. Look for the picturesque Etenesh Zeleke public boat dock below the exotic Ziggurat pyramid office building across the river from the 1926 River City Queen paddlewheel boat in Old Sac. We got some fun gifts at the G Willikers Toy Emporium, full of toys and unusual treasures and displays. We found an historic plaque commemorating Mary Gregory, an 1850's gold-rush entrepreneur, in the crusty old Pioneer Park, 14 feet lower than the current street level, on the south side of J Street at Commonwealth Alley east of Front Street The Capitol Pinball Parlor was fun in the historic 1850's B. B. Barney building right there on J St, and at the far end of the Old Sacramento State Historic Park greenspace, we wandered around the souvenir store in the recreation of the 1850's Huntington & Hopkins Hardware building, the exhibits and activities of the Sacramento History Museum in a reproduction of the original 1854 building, and the rebuilt 1870's California State Railroad Museum just north of there, with some other sites around that park, too. We caught up on more bits of history in The Old Town Visitors Center at the east end of J Street. And the waterfront trail offers 4.5-miles of waterfront views. We only had time to walk south a ways, past the Crocker Art Museum, enjoying the changing views of the golden Tower Bridge and the Ziggurat pyramid building. We had only a day in Sacramento, and we could have spent much more time exploring and enjoying this area. read more

The buildings, the wooden plank walkways throughout this small area of Sacramento made you feel as though you are supposed to be wearing jeans, boots and spurs. The old Sacramento waterfront is full of bars, restaurants and small boutiques. During this visit, the Christmas light show was just starting and although it was raining, lots of family and kids were in attendance. The Christmas tree is beautiful and festive, but they demolished the historic school site and removed the Ferris wheel and carousel. Sad to see these things go. This is a quick 15, 1 hour or 3 hour walk. Very enjoyable! I didn't even know they have sea lions at the sac River. They be lasting in the river, barking at each other, and playing king of the hill by pushing each other off of the pier. So cool. Also there's tons to do at the water front. You can walk from the water front to the Riverwalk on the other side of the river. And there are so many stores. And there's even a floating hotel in case you can't go in a cruise. Cool! I think Old Sac is underrated and I wish I visited more often honestly, but when we do, it's an all day adventure! Old Sac has lots to offer year round - unique shops and restaurants while walking the creaky wood walkways in this once Wild West town. There's just so much history and character - it's a must to visit if you're from out of town or just need a fun thing to do! Theater of Lights and the Polar Express during Christmas time, ghost tours, candy shops, bars, indoor miniature golf, even a comedy spot (is it still open?) and a railroad museum! It's pretty close to DOCO and Golden 1 Center as well. They offer metered parking as well as garage parking. Saturday morning of Labor Day weekend. It's not busy or too hot yet. We see the train pull up in front of the Delta King River Boat (we're having breakfast at Steamers across the street). After breakfast, we wander toward the river - cannot for the life us find any informational kiosks, or maps of the area (you know, you are here), or where to inquire about a train ride, boat ride, bike rentals, anything. We finally approached the train and asked the conductor who told us tickets are sold a couple buildings down. As we wander toward the Railroad Museum and around Old Town, the area looks deserted, it's dusty with wafts of urine. We finally decided to leave the area and find a sports bar to watch the US Open. Poor Sacramento - seems like it's trying, needs something to make it more visitor friendly. read more

Everytime I visit Old Sac I both feel like I should go more often, and remember the reasons why it doesn't happen as often as I'd like. There are so many great stores, restaurants and activities here and it's super cute with the old school look and feel. Parking is all paid, you can either grab a metered spot or a spot in one of the parking garages. Old Sac is walking distance from free parking spots though, so if you don't mind a bit of a walk you can grab a decent spot and save some money. You can walk the paths along the waterfront, and the Crocker Museum and DOCO are very close. You could easily make a day out of checking out this area, and there's something for everyone. You'll find plenty of scenic photo ops and a great view of the Tower Bridge. Certain parts can get touristy, and if you're looking to avoid crowds you'll want to go off peak hours and avoid weekends. If you don't mind a crowd and are looking for events check out the local businesses and Old Sac programming online. read more

Loved walking and exploring the waterfront. Came here on a Saturday morning, early, to beat the traffic and enjoy a nice walk along the water. Being from Nevada, it is reminiscent of the pioneer days, but a little larger. Love the old wooden sidewalks. Lots to see and patrons were out having breakfast. Driving and parking was very easy. Love the buildings from the mid 1800's. Capitol Blvd gives you a birdseye view of the Capitol. There is an old train and depot there. Very educational and sparks your imagination of what life might have been way back when. I recommend if you want to get your morning steps in before it gets too crowded! read more

First take taking my significant other home to meet the rest of my family, and I decided to take him to a place that was so important to my childhood while growing up in Sacramento. We did everything you do on a visit here: walked the boardwalk, complained about the cobblestone streets, bought popcorn and taffy, and even ate fish and chips while watching the Delta King. It was the middle of the day, and over 100 degrees, but we managed to stay cool with lemonade, and the various misters throughout the area. I felt like a kid again when we visited the costume stores (except now I could go to the adult floors lol), and it was nice to get peanut brittle and pet the horses and feed them hay. Old Sacramento is one of the reasons I love it here, and I'm glad I was able to share it with someone so special to me. read more

It features a Historical Bridge, a railway museum, the Watertaxi Pier, and the Delta Hotel & Restaurant, resembling the Titanic. The area also includes restored buildings, a historical tunnel, souvenir shops, and small cafes. Parking is unavailable onsite, but you can use Sac Valley station, a 5-7 minute walk away. I came on a hot day. However, I had 5 rail passes that needed to be used by the 10th so off to Old Town Sacramento I went. I took Amtrak from Fresno to Stockton, then connecting Amtrak bus from Stockton to Sacramento and then connecting bus from Sacramento (this driver drove like he was on Mr. Toad's wild ride) to Stockton amtrak. First stop was Sacramento Train Station which is about a mile walk to Old Sacramento Waterfront. Old Sacramento is supposed to model the Gold Rush Era. It was quite hot. I decided not to do the River Tour because I wanted to eat at Fanny Ann's. Old Sacramento is known for their candy stores, saloon type restaurants and haunted places. Every store I went to was like walking into a museum. Old Sacramento also has the historic Sacramento museum as well as the railroad museum. It's definitely a cool place to visit. It's walking distant to the cool yellow tower bridge. If you do not do the historic river tour, you can just walk around Old town and check out all the stores. I was going to eat at Joe's or Delta King because of the River views, but something was pulling me to Fanny Ann's Saloon. The Hidden Vault which is like a Disney Store on Steroids is pretty amazing too, they have the best lounge fly backpacks and purses. There's a store called Cerealism where it seems like all the imagination you had as a child came to life in this place. I really wanted to check out Evangeline's 3 story costume mansion that is haunted, but sadly it caught fire and is now closed until further notice. I had a pretty neat time exploring. read more

Get transported back in time to the Gold rush era at this cute little spot in the city! There were horse carriages running around here. The buildings still have the old world charm. Even the sidewalks are still with wooden slats and the streets are cobbled. There is a Ferris wheel as well for kids. You can walk along the waterfront. The Tower bridge can be seen from here clearly. Tons of shops selling gifts/souvenirs and ice creams and restaurants. Dog friendly. Parking is a pain. There is a garage though. They are located in an actual round house that was used to repair locomotives and train cars. The riverside train ride was a nice and relaxing diversion.
