We are restoring a century-old log cabin and needed a propane provider. Being new to propane, I called five different companies that served the Grayling Ausable River region to ask questions, compare rates and get a feel for their customer service. Every other company just referred me to their web sites and FAQ and a couple told me that their scheduling/service was limited. Fick and Sons Grayling was the best on every level. I was lucky to reach Brian Klemish when I cold-called Fick. Even before we settled on Fick as our provider and opened an account, Brian offered to drive to the cabin when our HVAC installer would be there; he helped select the best location for the new stub and advise us re the best size and location for our tank. Later, Brian walked me through their service plans and helped me set up our account. Kari, who handles scheduling, thoughtfully scheduled (and rescheduled at our request) the install and service around our contractor's and our schedules. The day set for the installation, Evan and Trenton also consulted about the best location for the tank, placed it, ran the line, fired up the furnace and walked my wife and me through everything including propane safety. They got their work done expertly and without delay and yet were thoughtful, friendly and patient the whole time. That we experienced the same friendly, expert and accommodating customer service from several different Fick folks at every stage from cold-calling to ask questions through to installation and ensuring the new heating system worked tells me it's not just a coincidence, it's the way Fick and Sons does business. For all you hunters out there do not stop and get your propane filled at Fick and sons. We have been getting our 100 lbs cinder filled there for the last 20 years. Stop to the refill our 100 lbs tank. They told us you have to be able to transport it upright. They have in the past always filled it then let us transport it back to our cabin laying down. Not to mention we were going to bring our other tank which was half full just to make sure we would be ready for deer camp. They were going to charge us full price to fill it no matter how much we had in it. I guess they don't know how to use a scale and weigh the propane going in. read more

Have had Fick and Sons for years. Accidently ran out of gas. Soonest they could come was four days away, however, they had a truck within 20 miles! Not considerate or helpful at all. Heard they changed owners which may explain this. They lost two customers now! Do not use. Cheaper elsewhere!! read more

There is one young man there who is perfectly great and always tries to help and understand what any issues are. Every other (office) staff member I have worked with has been horrible. Payments are issued to random accounts which incurs fees on your own account. Paperwork is constantly lost, if you find an error in your account you better have numerous forms of proof. Sometimes they can tell you previous payments that have been made on your account, sometimes you get told they don't do that. Oh, and don't mail your payment in either - go into the office, take a picture of the person, get a receipt and then get an extra receipt with their name, date and signature, then email them a copy of all of the items - just to make sure you have started the proof of payment process. We have been buying propane from Fick & Son's for more than 15 years now. We purchase under the Price Club program, which is an annual purchase. Fick & Son's refills the tank about 5-6 times through the year. Have always had good service from office staff, refills are timely, and delivery staff is courteous. No problems with billing. I just don't understand the poor reviews left by others. read more
