Our experience with North Country Pediatric Dentistry has been extremely frustrating,…read moreunprofessional, disorganized, and has directly affected my son's treatment timeline. In March 2025, we met with the orthodontist and were told my son needed all four incisors removed and spacers placed. When I later called to schedule his initial extraction appointment, the office could not locate the orthodontic order. We scheduled anyway, but when we arrived for the appointment, the dentist again could not find the orthodontic order, which resulted in the procedure being rescheduled. At that point, I asked why a new order could not be requested from the orthodontist and was informed that the orthodontist we had originally seen was no longer with the practice. I then requested a consultation with the new orthodontist to clarify the treatment plan and was told a consult was not necessary. At his June 24th extraction appointment, the dentist removed only one tooth and stated the others did not need to come out. At that time, his spacers still had not arrived, and each time I inquired I was told that "the lab was still making them." At his August 27th cleaning, a different dentist informed us that the remaining incisors did need to be removed and advised scheduling another extraction. Again, I requested an orthodontic consultation and was told it was not needed. After further confusion and another cancelled appointment, we were eventually told that we did need to meet with the new orthodontist, which finally occurred on December 12th. At that visit, we were again told the same plan: the remaining incisors needed to be removed, spacers placed, and a palate expander would be required. The Plattsburgh office manager acknowledged that there had been staffing issues and stated that some employees had not been properly performing their responsibilities and therefore been fired (extremely unprofessional conversation to be has with a patient's parent). She assured me she would personally follow up with the lab to ensure my son's spacers were ordered and tracked. My son was then scheduled for December 28th to have the remaining three incisors extracted. I specifically asked whether we should wait until the spacers arrived before proceeding, and I was told they would be ready within 1-2 weeks after the extractions, so it would be fine to move forward. Weeks passed with no updates, and multiple phone calls were not returned. On January 30th, I was finally able to speak with the manager from the Malone location, who was assisting in the Plattsburgh office that day and was professional and very helpful. She investigated the situation and discovered that the spacers had never been ordered at all, despite previous assurances. She immediately spoke with the Plattsburgh office manager, who stated she would have the dentist place a rush order on Tuesday when he was in. When I followed up again, I was informed that nothing had yet been done and that this was the first the Plattsburgh office manager had heard of the issue. During that call, she raised her voice, spoke to me in an unprofessional manner, and stated she had no control over the dentist or the lab. I have also personally witnessed her speaking unprofessionally to other parents over the phone while sitting in the waiting room with my child. In addition to the treatment delays and communication failures, this office has previously sent me another patient's full name and appointment time, which raises serious HIPAA privacy concerns. The repeated miscommunication, lack of follow-through, inconsistent treatment decisions, and unprofessional interactions have made what should have been a straightforward pediatric dental process unnecessarily stressful and prolonged. I strongly encourage parents to carefully consider their options before scheduling care here.

On top of that, their staff is judgmental instead of empathetic. Save your children from a lifetime of hating the dentist and steer clear.

This practice has cancelled two of my appointments at the last minute. I have not seen a dentist in…read more10 months because of this. I did not cancel these appointments; the dental office did. They also informed me that although they accept Delta Dental, an insurance company I contracted with because the dental office told me that they accept this insurance, I may still have to pay the cost of my appointment upfront because one of their providers doesn't accept Delta Dental. If that provider performs my checkup, I will have to pay upfront and wait to be reimbursed. Also, I cannot request another provider who accepts Delta Dental perform my checkup. I have paid upfront before, when I had dental insurance they did not accept, and I had to chase down my reimbursement because it was sent to the dental office, not to me. They never forwarded to me until I called and asked for it. I called the office to let them know I would no longer be a client, for all the reasons listed above, and received an uninterested "OK" from the person on the phone. If you have other options, I would definitely recommend finding a more reliable dental provider.

I've intentionally waited several weeks to write my review as I generally do when I receive less…read morethan adequate service as I want my reviews to be factual and less emotional. I had scheduled a cleaning with Essex Family Dental in April of this year and upon doing so was asked to update my insurance information as it had been a short while since I had my teeth cleaned. While doing so, my insurance had in fact changed, so I gave the biller/scheduler my new insurance information. Prior to my cleaning, I received a text message asking me to confirm my insurance information and appointment, which I did, as I did not want to incur a fee for a no call, no show appointment. Upon my arrival for my cleaning, we confirmed my insurance information a third time. I was excited to get my teeth cleaned as I love my hygienist and ONLY schedule appointments when she's available. She's truly the only reason I've continued to go back to this practice as there has been so much turnover and customer service has gone down. After my cleaning Dr. Liberman Liberman came in and acted as if I were a "new" patient. Mind you, he and a couple of his colleagues have had their hands in my mouth several times. It made me feel extremely under valued as I continue to use their services and had to remind him, he's seen me on several occasions. It was clear that he did not glace at my chart or any information prior to coming into conduct my very quick oral examination. At the end of our interaction, we proceeded (me, the hygienist, and the scheduler) proceeded to schedule a follow-on visit approximately two weeks out for a very small filling, at which point they provided me with a written estimate that the procedure would cost me just under $50.00 to the filling. Fast forward a couple of weeks, I go to the office, check-in, confirm my insurance information again, proceed to get my tooth drilled and pay for my filling. No big deal, right? About a month later, I get a bill for about $350.00 dollars for unpaid dental fees. Hold the mic please, as I went onto my mobile app and confirmed I in fact had insurance. I promptly phoned the office to talk about my billing error and of course, got their voicemail and left a disgruntled, detailed message. A couple of hours pass, and I get a return call from a gal in their billing department. I explain the situation and share that there must be some error that was coded incorrectly or not properly put into their system. She proceeds to tell me, not quite and that I do in fact owe the $350.00ish dollars as my new insurance was not in network. What? How was I supposed to know that? The biller proceeded to gaslight me and tell me it was my fault and that I should have known my new insurance was not in network, to which point I countered that her office confirmed my insurance not once, not twice, not three times but on four or more instances and even gave me an estimate on my filling. Had I been a brand-new patient I would accept ownership, but the office confirmed my insurance several times after my cleaning and proceeded to render services, to which she advised me, "the estimate was off your old insurance policy". She advised me that I was responsible for my insurance not covering all the services. I instantly grew frustrated with her due to her lack of empathy and care; I work in the financial industry and it's my job to "advise" my customers of all their options. Had she or a colleague of hers told me I was out of network; I'd have had made an informed decision based on my financial and oral care needs. It was evident someone had not done their job (by her admission) and I was paying the price. So, I'm taking my business elsewhere after about five years. Since Dr. Makay and his wife took over ownership of the practice it's gone downward. I"ll be sure to let friends, family and the community of my experience and why they SHOULD not go here for their dental needs. Do better, Essex Family Dental! You just lost a valued and loyal patient because I was gaslight and poor bedside manner.
