The check out is literally right next to the entrance/exit. They have a small amount of fresh/prepackaged foods which may or may not have been sitting there for hours/days. The confusing bit is that there is another section of the store for toiletries or non-grocery items. It isn't so obvious for a newbie like me. You can find soaps, scrubs, baskets, lotions etc. You have to walk through the back area of the shop though. This market serves the need of the people but I am so surprised that it is so tiny since it is serving one of the largest communities on the Island. There aren't many other choices so you just have to suck it up. Don't come expecting too much however.

I mean, it seems counterintuitive to be focused on eco-friendliness and then to price out the majority so only some can afford it, right? Like, if you want people buying non-organic/fair trade/etc, why make it so most of them can't do it at your store? The counter argument I usually hear is that you get a discount via the Island Club Card, but that's going away soon and it's like $90. So it's still a problem. Sometimes you'll need to go here to buy something you want and in all honesty if you're visiting the island it's worth checking out. But always look at the price tag before you buy anything, you never know when something that should be $7 is $30.

It's sad because I would love to support local businesses and I'm not a Stop and Shop fan but it's better than this.

Super sweet! Unfortunately, the phone customer service at Jim's STINKS. The first woman who answered sounded half asleep, insisted they don't have anything but alcohol, and then hung up on me when I mentioned the website says they also have some snack and convenience items! When I called back someone else answered, was equally as rude and sleepy and said "We mostly sell alcohol." I said YES, I know, but I'd like to add some snack items. She got defensive and annoyed when I confused her for the first person (they both sounded asleep so easy to assume they're the same person!), and started insisting delivery was gone for the night. I explained that someone would pickup, that I don't need delivery, and asked why is she being rude in addition to the first person hanging up on me? I asked for her name, to which she replied "why do you need my name?" I was transferred to the first girl who said she had a customer come in and so she hung up on me since delivery is gone for the night anyway. Ummmm. You can't put someone on hold?? Really poor customer service. I was planning on dropping some serious coin to ensure my friends bday weekend in MV was made more enjoyable by my large gift basket. "Big mistake. Big. Huge. In fact, you may feel like you have discovered a hidden jewel. They sell lots of items in bulk, frozen foods (some are really good), coffee filters, paper towels, pots and pans, spices, power bars, ice, meats and more. The prices are quite reasonable for the island. Remember that everything has to be trucked in from the mainland which adds to the cost of every single thing you buy on the Vineyard. This island has few bargains. lt closes at 4:30 which makes no sense to me. But it opens at 8 am so that works for us early birds. Don't ignore this terrific island resource as you drive between VH and Edgartown. Especially if you need lots of mustard, hot dogs, ketchup or mayo for your next cookout with family and friends.
