The continental breakfast is thoughtfully provided with fresh fruit salad and an array of cereal, bread and other options. They also have plenty of coffee and a tea station that I particularly loved with an array of options and even teapots on hand. The grounds are beautiful with plenty of blooming flowers and green space to enjoy yourself and hang out. We particularly liked the very friendly koi in the koi pond which came over to say hi when we approached.

The breakfast is a work of art. Fruit cups, yogurt eggs with ham and cheese. Freshly made crepes with bananas and homemade Carmel sauce. There is a microwave and dishes, silverware and cooler with sodas and water upstairs with couches and games. Fresh baked cookies outside your room in the evening. There is fishing and crabbing on site. If you don't have the equipment they Wii loan you what you need. There is also a pool, several swings and chairs outside. Everything is so tastefully done and welcoming. There is also a small elevator to get suitcases and people upstairs.

We splurged on the charcuterie board upon arrival which was 100% worth it. From 4-5pm they had happy hour with complementary wine and appetizers. The Inn owners were so nice and offered great recommendations for things to see and do in the area. We took their suggestion to have dinner at Salt and Cyprus with waterfront views and great cocktails. In the morning, the inn's breakfast was perfect. Fresh fruit, homemade muffin, coffee, juice, biscuits and gravy, and scrambled eggs. With our short stay, we ran out of time to try out their fire pits and take a bike ride through town. There spare no expense to make the guests feel like royalty. First of all, high end coffee machine, fresh made cookies every day, ice cream sandwiches in the freezer... Then, the breakfasts are like dining in a Michelin star restaurant. Easily would be $25-30 in a restaurant. They have a happy hour(s) each night from 4 to 6 and serve 3-4 high quality wines and an assortment of local and regional beers. David and Tania are amazing hosts and we will definitely be back. There is lost to do and see in this area and the White Doe is a perfect hub for all things north OBX.

This year they added an outdoor tiki bar and it has great views of the sound. So, if you come early for your reservation or want to stay for a few cocktails after dinner, this is the perfect place. The main restaurant has both inside seating with AC/heat and seating that is mostly enclosed but is more like outside seating with large windows that are generally open when the weather permits....not a bad seat anywhere you sit! During the summer months they host great acoustic guitar performances that can be enjoyed along with your dinner. This is the place to go to in the Avon-Buxton-Frisco-Hatteras area for fine dining and well worth the reasonable prices. During our visit earlier this week we ordered a kids meal, Elk chops, lamb, and the filet for this in our group and everything was cooked to perfection. The Chef was helpful at making recommendations on how the Elk should be cooked and the recommendation was spot on! If you're in the OBX this summer, put the Inn on your dinner rotation---especially if looking for a more upscale experience.

We had to stop mid ride for him to fix the chain which left his hands greasy for the remainder of our ride to the lighthouse. My main disappointment was location. While it is walking distance to the beach, it's not ON the beach. The town of Buxton was fairly run down. Next time I'd opt to stay in Hatteras, which we actually mistakenly thought we were when we booked.

What an incredible disappointment it was. The comparison was stark. The entire property is in need of attention. The porch swing we enjoyed outside our room (#11) two years ago was sitting on the deck this year (picture attached). The afternoon social advertised for Saturday afternoon did not happen. The boardwalk to the road was unusable and while cordoned off for safety didn't have any repairs during our stay. The beach walkway is a joke, and dangerous. The hot, made to order breakfast we'd enjoyed in 2024 was an embarrassment. Sunday morning's breakfast consisted of two small round store-bought waffles and a flaccid, microwaved piece of something unlike bacon. We chose to skip breakfast on Monday and Tuesday mornings and pay to eat elsewhere. In general, the inn appears to be falling to ruin. The bathroom floor was sticky and clearly unclean. The mini-fridge froze our sodas. We never saw any innkeeping staff on premises other than the nice young man who brought us our breakfast on Sunday morning. The quality of the food was not his fault; clearly, the days of having a cook make special breakfasts of the day are a thing of the past. What in the world has happened? It turned out good for us. The building is nice, more private and the rooms have a private bathroom. You get access to the main house as well as the tavern. The tavern is very cool. Nice bar, seating area and a TV. You have to bring your own booze since they don't have a liquor license. Plenty of parking at the house for guest, all complimentary. You also get access to the pool in the back but it was not open when we were there (winter). The owners Mike and Holly were great and provided excellent information and recommendations on Elizabeth City.

Little did we know, we would get stuck on the island with the ferry ceasing to operate due to high winds. We were there several nights and he provided us with a safe a cozy place to stay during the storm. Highly recommend. Very peaceful and soothing place to stay. Wonderful inn keeper and fantastic history. His homemade breakfasts were also quite delicious.

The rooms were pretty comfortable, and the continental breakfast with homemade blueberry muffins were delicious. Downside, there was still renovation activity going on in the rooms nearby. Plus, the mini fridges had not been installed yet so no way to keep our leftovers cool. In the end, the staff was super friendly and ready to assist... and the check in/out was a breeze.
