I've stayed here a few times and I really enjoyed every visit. Even though the rooms are not brand new, they have a cute and cozy charm. The bed was quite comfortable and the room has cute decorations. I didn't hear any outside noise, which helped with a great night's sleep. I loved the wine, cheese, and crackers happy hour in the evenings. That was a nice little perk. Also, the location is so pretty overlooking the Bay. There are Adirondack chairs available to sit and watch the view. Breakfast is included in the price, which I thought was a great value. There were sausage biscuits that are kept in the oven and you just ask the attendant when you're ready for some. There was also a nice selection of fruit, cereal, oatmeal, pastries, etc. The coffee was not wonderful and we ended up getting coffee right across the street. All the employees were super friendly and happy to answer any of my questions. I would gladly stay here again in the future!

Boy, it was difficult trying to find a hotel in this area. Reviews are none to very limited on Yelp as well as Trip Advisor. We ended up here on recommendation by extended family, whose family is local. ATMOSPHERE: It definitely fits the name, with its wood floors throughout, non-sound-deadening construction, quaintness, charm, and views. This 25-unit inn is tucked behind a quiet residential street and also borders some local restaurants & shops and is right on the water. A boardwalk connects the pier as well as neighboring inns and businesses. ARRIVAL: We drove from Philly and arrived at 3:00am. We pre-arranged a rate for the partial night's stay. A simple call to the person-on-duty brought her out of bed to check us in. ROOMS: Because of our schedule and I guess the hotel's, we were in 3 different rooms each night. All of the rooms were clean. Yes they're older looking, but clean & up-kept is what matters to us. It's not a dive by any means. The TV's are old meaning not flat paneled. The air conditioning units are strong & cool. The windows are covered with vinyl shutters which are great for blocking out the early morning sun, and to me are cleaner than drapery. As far as the bed quality, all 3 rooms differed, from sagging and springy on our first 2 nights, to newer & more firm on our 3rd. Nothing far from uncomfortable though. The bed was actually more comfortable than some of the major hotel brands we stayed at during our 26 day vacation! And the pillows were great, meaning firm. I loathe those soft worthless ones. There's free Wi-Fi, but a bit spotty. No biggie as AT&T has great reception. BATHROOMS: All 3 were the same, 1 sink and shower/tub, and hair dryer. But the tub filler doesn't come on, and there's no drain stopper. Possibly to discourage baths? Water pressure was good and drainage was quick. FRONT DESK: All the ladies who we interacted with were very friendly. PARKING: It's free! Where are you going to get that perk nowadays?! HOUSEKEEPING: On the day we had to relocate to the room next door, the housekeeper knocks on the door regardless of the DND sign. Not a big deal as we were up already. CHECK OUT: Stopped at the front desk to return the keys and for a receipt. All's well that ends well! OVERALL: We'd stay here again. The rate was reasonable for the room quality. But I doubt we'll be in this neck of the woods again.

We stayed in one of the suites with a separate bedroom, which worked out great. There was a lot of space to spread out. Something minor to some but I loved being able to self-park close to the room. The rooms are absolutely beautiful, spacious, and elegant. Each morning we enjoyed delicious coffee along with a wonderful selection of sweet and savory pastries. The afternoon cocktail hour was a special touch and a great way to relax after a day of exploring. A special feature is the deep-water dock, which allows you to pull your boat right up to the inn. There are also kayaks, paddle boards and bicycles for guests to enjoy. We rode bikes to the park and all around downtown. Inside, there are comfortable sitting areas perfect for relaxing, reading, or playing games. The Burrus House is peaceful, quiet, and exceptionally welcoming. My husband and I had a wonderful experience just two years ago this month at First Colony Inn,…read morewhich prompted us to book another visit this past Saturday 3/21 through this morning, Tuesday 3/24. What an incredible disappointment it was. The comparison was stark. The entire property is in need of attention. The porch swing we enjoyed outside our room (#11) two years ago was sitting on the deck this year (picture attached). The afternoon social advertised for Saturday afternoon did not happen. The boardwalk to the road was unusable and while cordoned off for safety didn't have any repairs during our stay. The beach walkway is a joke, and dangerous. The hot, made to order breakfast we'd enjoyed in 2024 was an embarrassment. Sunday morning's breakfast consisted of two small round store-bought waffles and a flaccid, microwaved piece of something unlike bacon. We chose to skip breakfast on Monday and Tuesday mornings and pay to eat elsewhere. In general, the inn appears to be falling to ruin. The bathroom floor was sticky and clearly unclean. The mini-fridge froze our sodas. We never saw any innkeeping staff on premises other than the nice young man who brought us our breakfast on Sunday morning. The quality of the food was not his fault; clearly, the days of having a cook make special breakfasts of the day are a thing of the past. What in the world has happened? First Colony Inn deserves far better than the lack of care and attention it is currently getting and so do its guests. Kirsten S.

Break fast was nice but hot food was just reheated premade items. As in picture. Not the quality we got last time. Pastries were held over each day for the next day. By day 3 ? The big thing was you couldn't get coffee until the office was unlocked at 8am. We are early risers and like coffee in am. The other thing was the toilet in our bathroom , room 3 was very low and hard for older people to use. The room was not as clean as I remember in the past. Would I stay again ? I don't know. Were before I would have said definitely.
