I've stayed here a few times and I really enjoyed every visit. Even though the rooms are not brand new, they have a cute and cozy charm. The bed was quite comfortable and the room has cute decorations. I didn't hear any outside noise, which helped with a great night's sleep. I loved the wine, cheese, and crackers happy hour in the evenings. That was a nice little perk. Also, the location is so pretty overlooking the Bay. There are Adirondack chairs available to sit and watch the view. Breakfast is included in the price, which I thought was a great value. There were sausage biscuits that are kept in the oven and you just ask the attendant when you're ready for some. There was also a nice selection of fruit, cereal, oatmeal, pastries, etc. The coffee was not wonderful and we ended up getting coffee right across the street. All the employees were super friendly and happy to answer any of my questions. I would gladly stay here again in the future!

Boy, it was difficult trying to find a hotel in this area. Reviews are none to very limited on Yelp as well as Trip Advisor. We ended up here on recommendation by extended family, whose family is local. ATMOSPHERE: It definitely fits the name, with its wood floors throughout, non-sound-deadening construction, quaintness, charm, and views. This 25-unit inn is tucked behind a quiet residential street and also borders some local restaurants & shops and is right on the water. A boardwalk connects the pier as well as neighboring inns and businesses. ARRIVAL: We drove from Philly and arrived at 3:00am. We pre-arranged a rate for the partial night's stay. A simple call to the person-on-duty brought her out of bed to check us in. ROOMS: Because of our schedule and I guess the hotel's, we were in 3 different rooms each night. All of the rooms were clean. Yes they're older looking, but clean & up-kept is what matters to us. It's not a dive by any means. The TV's are old meaning not flat paneled. The air conditioning units are strong & cool. The windows are covered with vinyl shutters which are great for blocking out the early morning sun, and to me are cleaner than drapery. As far as the bed quality, all 3 rooms differed, from sagging and springy on our first 2 nights, to newer & more firm on our 3rd. Nothing far from uncomfortable though. The bed was actually more comfortable than some of the major hotel brands we stayed at during our 26 day vacation! And the pillows were great, meaning firm. I loathe those soft worthless ones. There's free Wi-Fi, but a bit spotty. No biggie as AT&T has great reception. BATHROOMS: All 3 were the same, 1 sink and shower/tub, and hair dryer. But the tub filler doesn't come on, and there's no drain stopper. Possibly to discourage baths? Water pressure was good and drainage was quick. FRONT DESK: All the ladies who we interacted with were very friendly. PARKING: It's free! Where are you going to get that perk nowadays?! HOUSEKEEPING: On the day we had to relocate to the room next door, the housekeeper knocks on the door regardless of the DND sign. Not a big deal as we were up already. CHECK OUT: Stopped at the front desk to return the keys and for a receipt. All's well that ends well! OVERALL: We'd stay here again. The rate was reasonable for the room quality. But I doubt we'll be in this neck of the woods again.

We splurged on the charcuterie board upon arrival which was 100% worth it. From 4-5pm they had happy hour with complementary wine and appetizers. The Inn owners were so nice and offered great recommendations for things to see and do in the area. We took their suggestion to have dinner at Salt and Cyprus with waterfront views and great cocktails. In the morning, the inn's breakfast was perfect. Fresh fruit, homemade muffin, coffee, juice, biscuits and gravy, and scrambled eggs. With our short stay, we ran out of time to try out their fire pits and take a bike ride through town. Next time we'll have to stay at least two nights!

There spare no expense to make the guests feel like royalty. First of all, high end coffee machine, fresh made cookies every day, ice cream sandwiches in the freezer... Then, the breakfasts are like dining in a Michelin star restaurant. Easily would be $25-30 in a restaurant. They have a happy hour(s) each night from 4 to 6 and serve 3-4 high quality wines and an assortment of local and regional beers. David and Tania are amazing hosts and we will definitely be back. There is lost to do and see in this area and the White Doe is a perfect hub for all things north OBX.

The staff in the office once you arrive are so patient and welcoming, so checking in was so easy !!! If you have any issues in your suite or questions about locks, they will gladly come over and assist you. The excellent cleanliness of all the suite and the attention to detail to making your stay comfortable is outstanding !!! The rooms are spacious, very clean, full kitchen, large bathroom, very very comfortable bed, living room, dinning room, a nice balcony and chairs for you to enjoy view of the water, sunset and sunrise, easy access to boardwalk and gazebo on small pier. Also with access to a large swimming pool and hot tub for relaxation... Another plus is it's located between Manteo and Kitty Hawk, so you have plenty of options of places to go for drinks, a good meal, sight seeing, or for a good time in the water. If you are planning to come out here do keep them in mind for a great and comforting stay. Do inquire about specials for special events and specials rooms. We stayed in one of the suites with a separate bedroom, which worked out great. There was a lot of space to spread out. Something minor to some but I loved being able to self-park close to the room. They placed us in the back building facing a courtyard on the 1st floor which made taking our dogs out convenient. Every staff member we encountered was friendly and helpful. The main building looked really nicely renovated while the other buildings looked like they still needed to be renovated on the outside. Landscaping seemed to need some updating and the pool was covered for the season but the top had a build up of standing water and dry leaves. Location was central to everything we needed. We love this area but would love to stay somewhere nicer next time.

Dirty stairs and "back stairs" were peeling paint and rotting. Room was "shoddy" at best, cave like with only a small dormer window that was so dirty it was disgusting. Room had a strong "chemical smell" and was "decorated in early yard sale/thrift store" furniture. Coffee maker (1 leg broken off) still had previous occupant's coffee filter and grounds and there was no fresh coffee packs in the room. The bed was so uncomfortable that we did not get much sleep and the sheets were so thin you could read a book through them. We could not stand to spend another night so checked out early. One of the most disgusting hotel experiences in my 40 years of travel. This place is a disgrace to the Wyndham franchise which is why it was selected in the first place. Wyndham is on my NO STAY list for ever after this experience.

My husband and I had a wonderful experience just two years ago this month at First Colony Inn,…read morewhich prompted us to book another visit this past Saturday 3/21 through this morning, Tuesday 3/24. What an incredible disappointment it was. The comparison was stark. The entire property is in need of attention. The porch swing we enjoyed outside our room (#11) two years ago was sitting on the deck this year (picture attached). The afternoon social advertised for Saturday afternoon did not happen. The boardwalk to the road was unusable and while cordoned off for safety didn't have any repairs during our stay. The beach walkway is a joke, and dangerous. The hot, made to order breakfast we'd enjoyed in 2024 was an embarrassment. Sunday morning's breakfast consisted of two small round store-bought waffles and a flaccid, microwaved piece of something unlike bacon. We chose to skip breakfast on Monday and Tuesday mornings and pay to eat elsewhere. In general, the inn appears to be falling to ruin. The bathroom floor was sticky and clearly unclean. The mini-fridge froze our sodas. We never saw any innkeeping staff on premises other than the nice young man who brought us our breakfast on Sunday morning. The quality of the food was not his fault; clearly, the days of having a cook make special breakfasts of the day are a thing of the past. What in the world has happened? First Colony Inn deserves far better than the lack of care and attention it is currently getting and so do its guests. Kirsten S.

We are early risers and like coffee in am. The other thing was the toilet in our bathroom , room 3 was very low and hard for older people to use. The room was not as clean as I remember in the past. Would I stay again ? I don't know. Were before I would have said definitely.
