And I'm a gigantic fan…read more I first found Eddie's Computers seven months ago or so, while doing some online shopping to help a friend who wanted to buy a computer setup for her kids. It was time for them to have their own machine. But she didn't want to spend an arm-and-a-leg on it. I found Eddie's shop on Craigslist. It seemed too good to be true. $120 for a complete set up -- box, flat screen monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers? I called. It seemed legit. We buzzed out the 170 to Sylmar (tip: 170 to San Fernando Mission Rd. to a left on San Fernando Rd. to a L on Astoria. Make your first left once you're on Astoria, then a L onto Berg). He operates out of his garage. But what a garage! It's full of used desktops, monitors, and other peripherals. We told him what we wanted, and Eddie -- a stocky Latino guy who knows his stuff -- dug out a used HP desktop, Viewsonic 19" monitor, and the promised peripherals. Word loaded already, and XP operating system. Plus anti-virus and a few other programs. And not a junky box, either. More than 1 gig of RAM, and a big hard drive, too. Everything worked. $120 changed hands -- cash only, I think. And now, seven months later, it's still working perfectly. Can you spell B-A-R-G-A-I-N ? Then today, my own Dell Optiflex desktop wouldn't boot. I suspected a power supply problem.Called Eddie. He said bring it out. He was there. (I think he's always there!). He tested the power supply, which had gone bad. Looked around for a used one to replace it. (He'd told me $20 to do the replacement.) He didn't find one. He could have sold me another box, and I would have bought it, but at the last minute he went into the back and dug around some more. Back there, unearthed another older Dell, which he raided for its power supply for me! Everything got connected, and booted fine. But Eddie wasn't happy with the speed of boot, so he went into the system controls for me and de-listed some programs from automatic startup. That worked, too. Twenty dollars for part and labor. Are you kidding? B-A-R-G-A-I-N! So I can't recommend this dude highly enough. He seems to be open seven days, and well into the evening. Bonus: this part of Sylmar and San Fernando have some hellified Salvadorean restaurants. Get some pupusas while you're out there. Oh! Travel time from Studio City to his place? A friend of mine suggested I look at Synergies too, it was a very high recommendation, so I figured I'd see what they could do. They were seriously the most experienced out of anyone we met and came up with things we hadn't even thought of. Nelson was the guy we dealt with, he really knows his stuff with advanced technology. He saved a huge mess that was going to happen if we'd gone with the other company, they were not going to wire things properly and the building would've had major electrical problems because of it. He ended up being a little higher in price, but in the end saving us money from issues that would've arose if we went with them. Because of his expertise we are now going to use Nelson to wire our whole house for home automation which basically means everything can be controlled from one remote, from the lights, the alarm, thermostat, tv, computer, music etc. Its SO SUPER cool what he can do! I should have known something was hokey from the beginning when I called and I got a "Who is this?" instead of a professional greeting (you know: "Thanks for calling so and so company, my name is, how can I help you"). After sorting out who is who I spoke to Nelson and he sounded enthusiastic and knowledgeable. We agreed that I would submit my contact info through their site and either him or his partner would get back to me that night to confirm our appointment for Saturday (This is Monday). Three days go by and no call/e-mail/or contact. I call Nelson back again to see what is going and he tells me he had an emergency that tied him up in Miami but we are definitely set for Saturday and if there are any issues he will call to let me know he is cant make it. Saturday comes by an Nelson is no show/no call. I wait for a while and give him a call, no answer, so I leave him a message asking him where he is. So far no f/u on my voice mail. Unimpressed with these guys is putting it mildly. If you don't mind having your time wasted with multiple calls and no shows then these are the guys for you!

My son and business partner Tim hired Bill to come out and try and fix our VoIP phones. However the only thing we got was a massive headache. It all started when Bill saw an opportunity to sell us a router, that while new had been "sitting around collecting dust for a few month." (those are his words not mine) We agreed to let him do the work but were also very clear that we would not buy the router if it did not solve the problems. He agreed to let us test it, try it out, and see if it actually worked. Being trusting people we had him out to do the work. He installed the router and for the first hour or so there was no problems. But then we started to notice that not only were our phones still broken but that we were having other issues as well....thats when Bill started on insisting on payment right away and we started to wonder why. Tim talked with Bill and agreed to pay him for the labor but said he would not pay for the router until Bill could demonstrate that it actually solved our problem. Bill responded via email " Paying labor now works for me, gives me something for my effort, and seems perfectly fair. " Like I mentioned after he installed the router we were still having issues with the printer and scanner. Bill wrote back and admitted he caused the problem and gave us some nice line about how he would take full responsibility and come fix it. Well that was on June 25th and he was supposed to stop by and fix it but via email told us he had "other obligations" and decided to not stop by but remote in again. Well not only did he not fix the issue. He created yet another issue. So here we are in a high tech office where scanning and faxing 100+ pages per day is normal and out scanner is not working because of an oversight Bill had. His brilliant solution was that we go down the street and use the office stores fax. At this point Tim wrote to Bill and let him know just how unpleased we were with the service. The next thing we know we had been locked out the router he sold us. He decided to hold our entire network hostage because he failed to not only fix the original problem but he also created 2 new additional issues. Bill spoke with Tim and threaded to come take all the equipment out and leave our office shut down and in shambles. It was at this point we demanded the password and let Bill know he was no longer welcome.... There is ton more to say but I;ll leave it at we took him to small claims and judge heard the case and decided against Bill Curran and in our favor. Now Bill is upset he lost and running around posting slanderous reviews of us online. He refuses to pay the judgement and creating a nightmare for us. We suggest you look else where for quality computer help.
