This store is for the piano connoisseur, an individual that appreciates quality and beautiful sound. If you are looking for a honky tonk piano, this store for is not for you. Try the others in Garden Grove. The sales lady [Esther] was very helpful in every way fully realizing that one doesn't buy a piano everyday and she offered hints and suggestions so you can constrain yourself within your budget. You need to be aware that you are buying a beautiful piece of furniture that somehow you'll have to make it fit in your living room and I'd suggest that you bring pics from your abode so you will not be disappointed with your choice. A few pics in your iPhone will do. It's nice to have the assurance to know that if you decide to trade in your piano for a better one, you'll get the purchase price credited to your next purchase. We both are retired and our skills are between Beginners and intermediary so we decided in an upright Essex . This piano is designed by Steinway and is of superb quality and sound not to mention great looking furniture. I'm sure I'll be back to the store just to visit and tickle the real Steinway. read more

I initially had a mixed experience at Fields Pianos related to their follow-up care, but they resolved things. I purchased an Essex baby grand piano for about $12,000 cash in early 2013. I had no problems in getting the piano or having it delivered. The follow-up was at first a little worrisome. The first person sent to do the free tuning rushed through the job, and failed to address my issue with voicing on the top end of the piano. He simply denied that he heard a problem. My conversation with him was one-way: He spent most of his time name-dropping all the famous performers for whom he has tuned pianos. The other problem was this person is a chain-smoker and arrived to my house smelling like a pungent ashtray. Although this was not my main gripe with him, it contributed to a bad experience. (I have since learned that this person is no longer associated with Fields, thankfully.) The most recent person to come out to look at the piano was amazing. He spent two days (spaced by a week) tackling voicing and a click noise issue on one note, which he resolved by taking the components of the key apart. He evened out the tone and really took his time with making sure I was happy with it. (I wish he had come out initially.) Regarding the piano itself, at first I had some concerns. But over time, I have come to appreciate that even new pianos need to adjust to their environment, and that they are complex. There are many things that the Essex EGP-155 does right. It has duplex scaling, a dampened fallboard (the thing that covers the keys), a sliding music desk and full working sostenuto pedal (yes, it sometimes gets used!), that are not found on an entry-level Yamaha. It holds tune very well. I suppose some of my concerns arose from the fact that Steinway needs to do a better job with promoting this entry-level line of pianos. But I did not buy the piano so much for its name; I bought it for its touch and tone. It has a firm action, but not quite as firm as other pianos we tried. And its tone seems right for our home. It is not as bright as a Yamaha tends to sound, but it is brighter than many of the other pianos we looked at. (A lot of that is voicing, of course.) After more than 18 months, it still looks and sounds fine, and in our house, it gets played a lot. So it is worth giving Fields a try. While initially I had some concerns, these have been resolved very well and I look forward to many years with this piano. read more

5+++ stars! My wife and I bought our first (well my first at least) piano here. Prior to visiting Fields we've been to the 2 piano stores on beach in garden grove. The customer service at one was mediocre (no sense of excitement or urgency from the staff) and the one across the street was pretty bad (almost a sense of annoyance/"you're wasting my time" and arrogance from the staff). Knowing nothing about music, I just blew it off as this being the norm for "music people". Well when we finally stopped in to Fields I was blown away by the level of service by the staff, ESPECIALLY Al Jacobs. He gave us an extremely thorough description of every single piano we touched including the manufcaturer's background, the specific model's background, where the piano was made, where the parts are from, comparison of technologies involved, pros and cons, and played every piano we were interested in and explained its performance. WOW! This was NOTHING like our experiences at those other places. We bought a new Kawai. Comes with manufacturer's standard warranty, and 2 free tunings. Now here comes the crazy part: we can bring the piano back ANYTIME for an upgrade and receive 100% of its value as credit towards our next purchase. Unheard of. Even for used pianos they offer the same 100% trade in value! Our piano was delivered on 12/31 and we noticed a very tiny scratch scratch on the front of some of the keys. Al promised to send a technician out to fix it with no hesitation, and I have no doubt it will be taken cared of. We are so very happy and satisfied with Fields. Never ever should you buy from a private party or even another non-established, reputable store. Stick with the PRS at Fields, and always ask for Al! read more

I played a while at the store before I was approached by the most professional staff and manager, Steve Likens. He was friendly and introduced me to a couple Steinway pianos comparable to the Yamaha piano I played at home. While I was playing on the different pianos, Steve had a long conversation with my husband. We found that we could trade in the Yamaha piano (originally purchased from them) for the price we paid 15 years ago. At last, I purchased a brand new Steinway Model B grand piano and I can't tell you how much I love the Steinway piano. The is the best of the best that I could ever dreamed of! read more

This month I decided to spend a lot of money on a digital piano. I homed in on a Roland LX-708 model which has just been released. I had gone to another store just before finding out about Fields Pianos in Santa Ana. I was amazed at how many far-fetched stories I was told by the previous piano store whose salespersons told me that they could get that Roland but showed little effort nor any interest in me as a potential customer. And they lied to me I am sure because they had no intention of acquiring the newly released Roland for me, probably because they were more interested in liquidating their stock of older models. Though I live in the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles, I reached out to Mack Lorden at Fields Pianos way off in Santa Ana 53 miles away. He never steered me wrong or played with my brain like the other store. Lucky me! He was straight forward, sincere and very helpful in his professional capacities from the start and throughout my getting the money together to buy that digital piano. My purchase awaits delivery in the next week or so. The price of the digital piano and the shipping are great and I trust Mack Lorden completely - Mack provided a relaxed, no-nonsense approach to buying a very expensive piano and I am grateful to him and to Fields Piano... read more

We have been thinking about buying a piano for some time and decided to tour the showroom one weekend. We met with Michelle who was extremely informative and gracoius with her time. Since that was our first look we felt we could not make a decision at that time so another couple months went buy. Michelle was very good about following through with us and invited us to an event at the showroom. It was fabulous! I was in the front row of a private piano concert and it was quite a treat. I went downstairs to look at the pianos and the ones we had originally considered were gone. I knew I needed to act if I wanted to take advantage of the liquidation sale they were having. We are now the proud owners of a baby grand. It has added a new dimension to our lives. Previously owned, absolutely beautiful, in perfect condition and sounds gorgeous! My daughter had taken two years of piano and practiced at home on a keyboard. It came time for us to purchase a real baby grand piano so we shopped around in stores and online. Since I have no musical genes, I was a little intimidated and stressed at the cost of this type of purchase -- will my daughter continue to play, or quit when the piano is delivered??? Going in, I knew a pre-owned piano would be the ideal starter piano for us. Fortunately, I had the pleasure of working with Gordon at Fields Pianos. He was incredibly kind and patient with me throughout the process -- and never once did I feel intimidated or that I was being "oversold." Gordon was also very gracious in communicating with my daughter's piano teacher and getting her to come in and "test drive" the piano so that it also passed her standards. Thankfully she was "very impressed" with the instrument -- and she is not an easy one to please or delight!!!! Again, Gordon was extremely professional, helpful and so patient during the purchase process. After viewing one more used piano for sale by a private party that didn't measure up to its advertised merit, I decided to do a Yelp search to see if there were any piano stores in the area before heading home. Fields was the second store we visited this day. After browsing through the large showroom at Fields, my daughter and I made our way over to the used piano selection. We both commented on the overall good appearance and quality of the used pianos compared to those at other stores we had visited. We were assisted by Esther, a pleasant and knowledgeable associative who had been with the company for over 20 years. She inquired of our needs and directed us to a very nice used Yamaha console piano. We were able to negotiate a price that worked within my budget, and I was very pleased to walk away knowing that I had acquired a very good quality piano backed by a established retailer who stood by their products and even included a 5 year warranty on parts and 30 days service for my used piano purchase. Our piano was delivered the following week with a tuning to follow included in the purchase price. We are already enjoying our piano, and my daughter is enjoying her practice time much more on a real piano! Our experience with Fields was pleasant and positive! read more
