Highly recommend visiting Kim's Pianos. We sent a request for info online and got an email and phone call from Steve, who asked us about our budget and playing ability and any preferences. Because of Covid, we called in advance before going (they take appointments but are flexible, so we could just call thirty minutes ahead of time to let them know we were on our way from Torrance and that worked). When we arrived, Steve had already told Mr Kim and Tomas, who were both at the store, which pianos he thought we'd be most interested in. He was spot on--my husband immediately felt a connection with his top recommendation. We looked at a baby grand and the upright we eventually went with, and as Steve pointed out, sometimes a higher end upright plays better than a lower end baby grand (which is what our budget was constraining us to). We took a couple hours to decide actually, and they were patient with us which I appreciated! And we ultimately went with the upright Steve recommended. But only after my husband jammed with Tomas, it was pretty epic! Both Steve and Tomas are professionals, so we also connected with them as musicians.
