His condition was deteriorating and I really wanted him to move closer to me. I looked at all sorts of different places before a co-worker recommended I check out Kittay House. When I compared Kittay House to all the other options I had seen, it was no contest. Everything else I had seen was either depressingly overcrowded and underfunded, or extraordinarily luxurious and far out of our price range. Kittay House blew me away because everything was well-maintained, the staff clearly was both very professional and personally invested in the care of the residents, the space was not over-crowded, the apartments were nice, my dad liked the food, and *it was more affordable than places that did not compare favorably*. At first it felt like it was too good to be true, but the truth is that it really just is that good. I definitely recommend Kittay House to anyone looking for a place for a relative that needs to be in a place where they are looked out for. They have gone out of their way to be helpful, connect me with resources I didn't know existed, and to help my dad feel welcome in the new environment. And my dad is happy too. He likes going to see the movie screenings, hanging out in the lounge with other folks, and he enjoys the food. There are lots of activities available everyday too. The only thing I would change is to have it be in Brooklyn instead of the Bronx just because it would be more convenient for me. But, to me, having to travel a little further to visit him is totally worth it to know that he is in a place where people actually care about him.

Excellent care for their senior residents. My opera company performs for them throughout the year.read more

At this point I am not going to review the services offered by Hebrew Home. I am giving it 1 star…read morebased on the following. When your loved one is placed at Hebrew Home, whatever benefits your loved one is receiving goes to the nursing home (this is understandable). Hebrew Home will then place a $50.00 monthly allowance into a "personal account" for the resident for things such as haircuts, or for the purchase of other items/necessities that may be available through different vendors. BEWARE: In the event that your loved one passes away DO NOT attempt to claim any existing/leftover funds from your loved ones "personal account" directly from Hebrew Home. DO NOT tell Hebrew Home that the funeral has been fully paid for as they will send the funds from that "personal account" to the Public Administrator. Have the funeral home send an invoice to Hebrew Home and then have the funds distributed to you. When I tried to recover the funds from my loved ones "personal account", Hebrew Home told me that "by law" those funds had to be returned to The Office of The Public Administrator. Personally, I believe that "law" was designed to appropriate those funds. I now believe that this law was designed so that the city/county/municipality/state can stay with your loved ones money. Hebrew Home will never tell you this, but I will and I have. BEWARE....Where the law exists the trap or trick exists!!!

They were supposed to refund our deposit within 6-8 weeks. It's been almost 3 months, numerous phone calls, emails, texts and still no refund check!!! NYS has a 14 day law on refunding security deposits! This is ridiculous! Are they running a legit business or are they running a scam??? Now, no one calls back or returns emails. I have filed a complaint with the state attorney general's office and I will be taking Flushing House to court. If they are so shoddy in administration, how could they possibly be doing a good job running the independent living facility? I am just glad we decided not to put my elderly parents here. There is something not legit going on in this facility. If I can give them a 0 star, I would. 1 star is too good for them.

I have been a resident for a few months now and I highly recommend it. The location is extraordinary. It is on a quiet street, but two blocks from the hustle and bustle of downtown Flushing with its many stores and transportation options. Manhattan is an easy commute, just a 5-minute walk to the LIRR station and a 15-minute ride to Penn Station or Grand Central. I work part-time in Manhattan, and I've never had an easier commute! Queens College, with its plays and excellent musical offerings, is a quick ride on a nearby bus. Flushing Town Hall with its stellar jazz program is four blocks away. The beautiful Flushing Library is an easy walk, as is Macy's and one of the best pizzerias in Queens. Here at Flushing House itself, there are many interesting offerings - book club, language clubs, exercise programs, both domestic and foreign movies, and a lovely rooftop atrium that is open 24 hours a day. There are many food options at each meal and, once you realize all the choices you have ( on and off the menu) you can always find something you like. One can pick up meals and take them back to one's apartment, but the communal dining room has been a way for me to meet other residents and make the acquaintance of some lovely people. The staff is kind, hardworking and understanding with residents (even when a resident might be cranky!). My apartment is very sunny, clean, and comfortable, and weekly housekeeping is included. If you are an active older adult wondering what the next step in life should be, come to one of the frequent open houses that Flushing House hosts and see for yourself. You may find, as I did, that it is a lovely place in a great location with a price that is very reasonable considering all that is included.

The whole facility has a very warm welcoming atmosphere - more like a neighborhood senior citizen residence than a nursing facility. On her floor the CNA's are the most hands on with the residents, with a nurse always on duty at the desk. With few exceptions the aides that have taken care of my mother have been wonderful. They truly get attached to the residents and treat them like they're family. The ones that I have gotten to know best over the years are angels to me in how much they care for my mother . The Activity Department is absolutely the best! I've never heard of another place that does the things that they do at Providence Rest. Pre- Covid of course - they have a full activity calendar for every floor. Bingo, music, crafts, cooking , aromatherapy, nail painting - everything you could imagine. As well as the best Halloween & Christmas parties! The floors are alive and active due to all of the activity. Once the Covid restrictions came down the Activity Dept. immediately had a system set up where you can schedule facetime chats with your loved one, followed by "through glass door visits " & lastly in person visits when restrictions allow. In other words, during these most trying times they are doing everything in their power to keep people connected to their loved ones as best as they could following the mandated guidelines. The whole department is filled with the most caring warm people you could ever meet. The Physical Therapy Department is also excellent! The director & staff stay on top of the residents & continually evaluate & determine when they should be put back on a rotation. They contact me to give me updates on my mother. The people who work the front desk are also so warm, friendly & helpful. The sisters are always a presence & do their part in caring for the residents, as well as provide a feeling of spirituality. They decorate the entire building for all of the holidays in such a beautiful fashion; it's obvious how much the residents enjoy it. I've even gotten to know the housekeeping staff, who also chip in & get to know the residents & help out when needed. It's definitely an all-hands on deck type of atmosphere! Clearly I feel Providence Rest is a wonderful, warm, caring place for a loved one to live & be well taken care of. I highly recommend Providence Rest.

The facility was dirty, and two of my father's belongings disappeared while he was there--including his iPad and, most heartbreakingly, the Miraculous Medal his parents had given him. That medal was irreplaceable and should have been something I could keep to remember my father. Instead, it went missing while he was in their care. When I called about these concerns, the social worker was nasty, dismissive, and completely lacking in compassion. No rating can reflect the lack of care, accountability, and respect our family experienced. I would not recommend Providence Rest
