Staff were helpful especially when we couldn't turn on the AC. We learned you need to enter your card key in a key reader next to the door to turn on the AC. Bathroom showers gets plenty of water and it's hot. We stayed here because we were attending a family event at Jardin de Eventos Ajijic which is right across the street from the hotel.

The good things...the parking lot is above the street, there is a guard on duty who walks the property and will volunteer as a bellman, and the breakfast is pretty good and served from like 6 to 11. This chain is a budget hotel, cheap but adequate, and that's what you're checking into. Most of the guests are employees, field supervisors for retail or workmen doing maintenance or construction. I think there was 3 US license plates in the parking lot. Not a lot around the hotel, but next door south, the gas station has a good car wash, an Oxxo mini market and a Caffenio coffee place , Sonora's answer to Starbucks.

Free continental breakfast. The staff was friendly. I greatly appreciated one of the hotel workers giving me a free 10-minute ride back to the US border after I checked out in the morning. There doesn't seem to be any remotely luxurious hotels in Nogales, FWIW.

The lobby is expansive, and a nice place to just decompress, although they also have a nice businesses center/ office, adjoined bar (with Karaoke on Friday nights!!!!), dining room (with a SENSATIONAL complimentary breakfast-- which has it ALL... cereals both hot and cold, eggs, hashbrowns, bacon, sausages, waffles, bagels you can toast, PB&J, bananas, oranges, and mmmmmhmmmm biscuits and gravy that are PERFECT!). Parking is ample and the lot is big, the hotel is a block away from the police station and Civic Center Annex, so there's grounds to walk your dog during the day, though my husband and I were a bit cautious about walking around during the night-- just a vibe we got. The young lady who checked us in, Danielle, was very kind and spoke pretty good English. She remembered my friend from the last time he was there. Check-in wasn't until 3 PM but they had at one of our rooms available at 10 AM so I was able to come back and take and nap while my friend was in surgery. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom was large with a stand up shower. We got 2 rooms for $45 each a night which is a steal. You are only a few blocks from the US border and in the middle of all the shopping, dining, and dental centers that Nogales has to offer. Everything about Hotel Fray was great and I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again!

Their we were greeted with the staff, that welcomed us. The Hotel was nice, it had a little history to it. Inside it felt very up scale. The staff at the front desk were very nice. When I got in my room, I thought, yes ! I like it. I have a nice window view of the city. So in the manana we had breakfast in the Hotel. Oh, so good. If anything, I highly recommend the restaurant. We called reception to change us room or give us back the money and this was between half hour of being there, they said that they couldnt return our money or change rooms, that it was normal thing on weekends. I specifically asked for a quiet room and they lied to me. We wanted to rest after being in a funeral for 2 days and Mariposa port closed their gates after being waiting in line for more than 4 hours. That was nothing but a damn robbery, they made over 100 dlls in 1/2 hr with us. We had to leave. Some staff were sorry and told us that people on reception make some under the table money by renting rooms to underage kids and to family members to do parties there and used the pool Literally, it was a damn nightmare. This makes sense. It is basic. Bed, bathroom with shower, closet alcove, built in tables, overhead light. One towel. No extra pillows or blankets. Basic. On the plus side, it's clean, quiet and inexpensive. There is a small locked courtyard for parking, which is nice. The staff was friendly and spoke some English. It is useful to know some Spanish. The area is dotted with Dr offices, pharmacies, curio shops and clubs, but with fewer tourists, nightlife and shopping aren't what they once were and a lot of store fronts are vacant. Back to the hotel. For the price, it's all you could ask. And there is an adjacent bar and restaurant. My one complaint is the bed. The mattress was miserable. Very hard to get comfortable. Also, just a little work could make the room so much nicer. A closet door. A bureau. A picture. An extra pillow. If you're on a budget and just need a place to crash, albeit with an uncomfortable mattress, this place is great for the price. If you have the money (at least twice as much) go around the corner to the Fray Marcos. With a better mattress, 3 stars
