The entire second floor has the four rooms available to guests and they have several with their own baths. We were the only guests that night, so it was super quiet! The first floor is where the yummy breakfast is served and Sharon goes all out with so many choices on what you can eat! Her waffles with fresh fruit were out of this world and the presentation makes you feel like a queen. I would defnitely recommend staying here to pamper yourself - even if just on a trip home or on your way to somewhere else instead of a destination getaway. Stop at the Route 66 Museum a block away, check out the old cars that come into town all the time and sit on the porch and wish you could live in such a friendly and peaceful place!!

Unlike some rest stops that are shared, there are two distinct areas for this rest stop. We stopped on our way South, the stop located North of where Rooks Creek crosses the Interstate. This area provides some nice topographical variety. There is a decent size playground for the kids, a bridge crossing the creek to a dead-end lookout. The inside includes a couple of vending areas, and large clean bathrooms. Since I-55 is one of the major thoroughfares of the state of Illinois, there are large rest stops every 50 - 100 miles in both directions. Per the IDoT website, this is to promote driver safety. It also encourages frequent rest stops for those passengers who need it.

This location only accepts cash or check, no credit cards. I stayed at this property for 2 days. It was very clean and organized. It is a historical building that has been remodeled and to accommodate tourists and business people but to also keep the building historic. The property is owned and operated by the Forrest Historical Society. The preservation of this building was completed by the previous village president who has passed on. His legacy and contribution to this property is on display here. The building is across from the mini railroad track. It was not open while I was there. There is also a hat museum next door. Visitatin is by appointment only. Look for Jerry's Hat Museum of Facebook for more information. WIFI is available and works well. There is an individual bathroom for each of the rooms. Beth took very good care of us while we were there. I chose to cook my own breakfast the first day and there was plenty available to cook. The 2nd day, Beth came at 6:30 in the morning to cook for myself and the other guest (who was from Switzerland). All of food was fresh and excellent. She prepped oatmeal with blueberries and then served with a choice of more blueberries in a sauce or syrup. The coffee choice was above average and would be equivalent to Starbucks. She also served chopped fruit which was fresh, not from a can. There is one TV in the building in a common area but did not turn it on. There is a bar within walking distance but they serve no food. You can get your own beer at the Caseys (within 1/10th of a mile) and use the refrigerator in the kitchen. Restaurants in the area are limited. There is a family restaurant (Eagle's Nest) that has excellent ground beef tacos. Their peak business is during lunch. They are not so busy in the evening. Another choice the Cow Catcher but they close when on vacation, etc. Call before relying on going to eat at this location. You can cook in the hotel kitchen if you wish. But if you don't want to cook at all, then go to either of the restaurants in Forrest or drive to Fairbury which is 7 miles away. Don't drink much as there are local police that patrol the area. Be very careful with this. The whole place is very clean and maintained. They historical society takes a lot of pride on this building. If I had one criticism, it would be there could be more electrical outlets. But the building was built when electricity was used for lights only. I would not want to see them modify this. Just consider that if you pack in 10 devices that need to be charged, you cannot charge them all at once. This was a very good stay and exceeded my expectations.

Regrettably, the unprofessionalism and fraudulent activity are as follows: **Advertised prices:** - $80/night per cabin - $20/night per RV Without any discounts, the total should be $680 for 2 nights per cabin and 2 nights for the RV. However, my sister was charged $1,100. To avoid conflict and fear of retaliation, my sister-in-law paid an additional $420 for services not received. The owner provided no statement. **Experience at Ziegenhorn's Timber:** My sister-in-law wanted a nice weekend for everyone by a lake. She rented all 4 cabins, and our family brought a camper. She generously paid for everyone's stay. Upon arrival, the place seemed nice with a pond, pontoon float dock, and a pavilion with a fire pit and benches. However, the 2 full bathrooms were poorly maintained, with cobwebs, live spiders, slippery tile, uneven floors, and a dirty shower. **Cabins:** - 3 cabins with 1 queen bed each, room for an air mattress - 1 cabin with bunk beds - Small fridge, table, chairs, air conditioning - Charming modern style but on an unlevel foundation, causing difficulty for my mother-in-law post-surgery We needed food and a working kitchen, but there was no fridge, stove, or sink. The owner offered a fire pit with a cooking grate and an electric griddle, but the griddle was never provided. This made cooking difficult. The pavilion's unfinished room was infested with ants and flies, making it hard to keep food safe. Despite these issues, we tried to enjoy our time. We gathered around the fire for meals, music, and memories. However, a woman living on the property talked non-stop, and the owner frequently intruded on our gatherings. **Stay Summary:** - 2 nights, 3 days - Less than 20 people and 5 dogs - Rented all 4 cabins and an RV spot for 2 nights - Despite renting the entire property, strangers were allowed to fish on our site **Conclusion:** The unprofessionalism and fraudulent activity are clear. Despite the advertised prices of $680, my sister was forced to pay $1,100. The owner provided no statement. I hope this is a misunderstanding and that Ziegenhorn's Timber can still do the right thing.

The defining meeting space of a Polish community that is strong and has been in Streator for over a century. Furthered in the mid-century days by a concentration-camp survivor named Father Switka, the Polish community in Streator has been and still is strong. This is an old-school event venue - a full bar - make that two full bars - and two spaces: one for large gatherings: weddings, reunions, special ceremonies. The other for smaller ones: work parties, birthdays, banquets. The owners and board of directors, are staples of the community. Dorothy Swital was the first female Grand Master, and possibly the last. At 101, she is a matriarch in the community. She and her son Gary run the joint in the spirit of their forefathers and mothers: they don't turn anyone away - and they charge reasonable prices: $300 per three hours of the event space, and $750 per three hours for the reception space (call to ask for updated rates). And they have, doubtless, been involved in the community for decades. You walk in and see it - wood panels, the PNA Charter from 1898, and a warmly lit bar on the right. The left opens up into a seating area, a heater-fireplace, and a kitchen. Two full bathrooms on the far right corner. Tile floor, and beamed ceilings bring you back to the 1970s. And you know, right away, that this space is meaningful - and you quickly learn - that is has been, for nearly a century. A quick conversation with Gary Swital tells me this: he doesn't put up with any crap: when the state tried to tax them, he pushed back. When the church tried to steal their money, his mom did. When the church tried to steal their purse (eminent domain them) he bucked again. This place stands for everything that is great about Streator: good times, good fun, and community. Parties, work galas, fundraisers, funeral dinners, social clubs, reunions, weddings, funerals: this space has seen everything in its 100 years of existence. And Gary and Dorothy Swital have been instrumental in its flourishing for over 75 of those years.
