This place is a GEM. Let's start with: I'm a Loehmann's, Home Goods, Marshall's lover. I stumbled upon Fifi's when a jacket in the window caught our eye. Little did we realize the amazing finds they had inside. The store itself is pristinely well kept. The selection is amazing. The clothing and shoes and accessories are in great shape--most look brand new. The deals are great. The employees are so cordial. They really make you feel like you're in an upscale boutique when you're trying on clothes. They accept credit cards. They don't have their owns bags, so bring some of your reusable ones! My wife and daughter like this consignment store for its more upscale selection. Both are on the petite end, and they've both found clothing that they like. They used to have a small selection of men's clothing but i haven't seen it in a long time. There is parking on the side, which you don't always have on Main Street. I've been a Fifi's customer and consignor for many years. Full disclosure: there was a period of time (sometime around '17-'19) where the management/employees were terrible and they scared a lot of people away including me. I gave them another shot and could immediately tell a difference - employees were back to being friendly and helpful and the vibe was similar to when I first started going. On my last visit, I met the manager -she was lovely and gave me the scoop on all the changes they've made in the last couple of years. I have to say I'm on board with Christina here. The consignment process needs significant improvement. This is the only place I've taken clothes in for consignment. After the first go-around, I think I'm going to just opt for donating my clothes and getting money back a the end of the year. On the flip-side, they do have some nice stuff for sale. I LOVE Fifi's of Durham! The girls are very helpful and friendly, they've even come to remember mine as well as my husband's name. I shop consignment primarily for high couture bags, shoes, and sometimes clothing (I'm a size 14, it's rare to find couture in larger sizes). Fifi's offers very fair prices and sometimes even discounts on high value items if they've been in the store for a long period of time. As for selling items, I have sold through Fifi's a number of times. It's really a crap shoot (please excuse the phrase), there are no guarantees when you consign ANYWHERE. It's all about the right person coming in, with the right amount of money they are willing to spend. I know of a gorgeous pair of Chanel boots that have been on the floor for over a year, and a pair of sunglasses I found myself drooling over were gone the next day when I decided I HAD to have them. As well, I was very warmly received when I asked to have a pair of shoes back when they didn't sell within a couple months. Lastly, I've recently purchased my second Hermes scarf through Fifi's in Durham, both in beautiful condition and at affordable prices. Just don't. I know it's tempting to consign here because they generally take a lot of items, and some of the items will sell, meaning $ for you, but it's not enough $ to make the process worth it in the end. This is a reminder as much to me as to others, because I've been several times to consign my stuff even after being burned. Here are my complaints: 1) I've seen stuff I've consigned on the hanger for sale even after it's "expired" from my official account - i.e. should be donated by then and not sure I'm seeing those profits. 2) they've taken tons of stuff from me only to call me later and tell me they decided not to take some of it, which is annoying, requires a trip back, and seems to go against the whole concept of consigning. 3) customer service varies. I've found that the older ladies are friendly and helpful. The younger girls are not as enthused to assist. The last time I made a purchase, one of the girls stood next to the girl ringing me up and whispered something in her ear then looked at me. It may not have been personal, but it sure looked it. Regardless, that's unprofessional. 4) prices are inflated for what you get - this is used clothing and the name brands do carry weight, but it seems a little too much for what you get. read more

I've been a regular customer of Fifi's for years. It's an easy solution to selling old clothes and making a little money. Much easier than photographing each item, posting on an online selling platform, corresponding with potential buyers, and then mailing the item. True, that not all of my items have sold in the past but, that has happened to me when I've tried to sell online as well. In the end anything that is non-designer that doesn't sell ends up at a great local charity and high end designer items are returned. I highly recommend this store for the busy woman looking to sell her items! Also, some amazing high end designer items come through their store at reasonable prices if your looking for that incredible pair of shoes, designer purse, or cute dress. read more

If I could give less than 1 star I would. The people that work here are so rude and don't even acknowledge customers when they walk in. They literally ignored everyone that came in and two mothers with strollers coming in no one asked if they needed help or even held the door for them. Poor experience as a consignor; ok as a buyer. Unhappy with consigning here on multiple fronts, similar to other reviewers: 1-They have a habit of accepting stuff then rejecting it, or as they euphemistically tried to call it, "decline to price the item." They give it back wrinkled in a trash bag!! 2- I've had salespeople whisper to each other in front of me- unprofessional. 3- Disorganized, opaque selling process- easy for them to lose track of items, and you have to keep your own records of what you've brought in. 4- Sellers should be permitted to retrieve unsold items at the end of the sale period. Their practices make one suspect they either sell your "unsold" items and pocket the profit, or give them to employees. For most items, I've had better experiences on eBay and the Stock Exchange. As a buyer it can be a fun place to shop especially when you find a sale. read more

**Don't** sell your clothes here. I've consigned with Fifi's on 3 or 4 different occasions over the past 6 years. I learned to track my items this last time because my items have been tagged with the wrong seller in the past. While Fifi's got OK profits from my clothes, I ended up getting less for most items than what the thrift store would sell them for. Think designer jeans in current styles that cost around $300 new, NWOT knee-high suede boots and Anthropologie tops, NWT blouses from LOFT, upscale handmade dresses from boutiques in San Francisco that cost $150. Doesn't matter-- expect on average around $3-$5 for each item (and sometimes less!) regardless of how much you spent on it or how perfect the condition is. It's actually less pit-in-your-stomach inducing to donate the clothes to your local goodwill. This is especially true considering that you'll be treated like a naive, annoying pest even if you keep a lo profile, kiss a**, and put on your best retail demeanor which you learned from 15+ years of working in customer service. The younger girls who work there are always pleasant and helpful, but the older woman who is a manager will never pass up an opportunity to condescend to you or act put out for even the smallest request (like going in to pick up your check or calling right after you dropped your items off because you realize she didn't give you your seller number). Even when I called ahead to let them know I was picking up unsold items ON the last day my two remaining items would theoretically be on the floor before being purged for donation (theoretically) this same manager told me on the phone that I couldn't take them. So I went down to the shop, told her I was retrieving what we're still by contract my belongings, found each myself, gave her the tags, and left with my last heartbreaking check. Hiring a manager who thinks customers should have the attitude that "employees are always right" is bad for business. I hope the owner realizes that. If I can override the guilt that everyone who consigns with Fifi's is getting taken advantage of, I may return as a buyer. Highly doubtful. And if that manager is inside I will turn right around and walk out, because there's a 99% chance my day will be worse off for encountering her. If you want/need to make a little money from your closet, you're much better off selling your clothes on Poshmark or Tradesy or at Revolver in Raleigh. Otherwise, avoid Fifi's like the plague. Give your things to people who need the clothes more than you need the handful of change. read more

I've been shopping at the store for years but after my recent consignment experience I will no longer be returning I try to consign a pair of Louboutin shoes which I will not be able to be sold I understand but upon picking up my item I found out that the bag and box I had initially given them the shoes in to help with proving the authenticity have been thrown out by the manager that puts me in a hard situation trying to sell them again. When I asked what happened to the box they said that the new manager came through and through all the way up the clutter I didn't know that customers items were clutter next time I'm going to Clothes Mentor. read more

I will echo the sentiments of others in saying that Fifi's excels at service for the buyer, but NOT for the seller. I have sold clothes to them on approximately four occasions. On one of these occasions, when I inquired about whether or not my gently used Frye boots had sold, they had no record of this item on my account. Because they provide sellers with zero transparency to their intake system and are seemingly very disorganized, I now keep detailed records. On another occasion, the counter woman accepted five articles of clothing. But one week later I received notice that the manager had decided against accepting 3 of the 5. At that point, my options were: a) come pick them up right away, or b) donate them (without ever putting them out for sale). When I returned to pick them up, they handed them to me wadded up in a trash bag. In both instances, the sales team was remarkably unapologetic. In the future, I'll just donate clothes to a nonprofit, by which I could at least feel good about the transaction. read more

I've been consigning here for a while now and I can honestly say that this place is one of favorite clothing stores around! The staff is really kind and they do try to help you the best they can; they have a wonderful selection of clothing for all ages. I see clothes ranging from some that teens can wear to clothes for business women. One of the things I love is the fact that they keep their clothes up to date, they mostly take things that are up to 2-3 years old and they keep in season. Unfortunately, when I went in, I ended up bring mostly fall things when they were taking spring my first time so I ended up not getting too many things consigned to them. If you're interested in consigning their I would just bring in the stuff you think will work for that season and you should be fine!!! An update for consigning (please see my earlier review for my thoughts on Fifi's as a place to shop). While the cut is pretty good -- 60/40 on most items and 50/50 on designer, if I recall correctly (they didn't actually give me a copy of the policy when I came in to drop off my clothes), the lack of communication or tracking methods for consignors is frankly crappy compared to other places I've consigned. Payment is on the 15th of every month, but there's no courtesy phone call or email, so you need to remember to mark your calendar and pick up your paycheck -- or call ahead to see if you've even earned one. There's no way to track -- neither online, nor via a hard copy that could be provided with your paycheck -- which items have sold, what prices they're being listed at/sold for. In other words, the consigning process could be much improved. That said, the clothes DO sell well. Judging by the size of my first two checks, my pieces seem to be moving quickly, and they do have a no-appointment-necessary drop-off, which is cool. read more

I'm from California, and was disapointed in the shopping selection here until i found Fifi's. New favorite store.

Overall there is a lot of great clothing and accessories at Fifi's..lots of variety and choices. As someone who consigns with them, though, I have a few qualms 1) they don't make it very easy for you to learn if your stuff has sold, and 2) they make you pick up a check the following month without a reminder or anything. This makes consigning stuff there a pain; hence, minus a star for that. They do look at your stuff once you bring it in, and you don't have to make an appointment--so that is a plus. read more

I generally find a few pieces I like every time I go in. But honestly, I often think twice about shopping here given the attitude of those who work there. The last time I was in, I went to the counter after trying on clothes, and no one was there. I looked around and saw no one. I waited for a bit, but finally decided to leave. I put the item back that I was going to purchase, and headed towards the door. That is where I find the two employees, sitting down at the front of the store, staring at their phones. Really?? Ok, fine, do not greet me as I walk in. Ok, fine, do not ask if I need help and just sit and gossip with co-workers. But no one around to actually help you purchase? Come on. It creates an unwelcoming environment for the customer. I don't want employees to hover, but to not be acknowledged at all, especially at the point of purchase, is ridiculous. read more

They recently had someone who is already friends with the owner go and write a 5 star review to cover up my 1 star review. The owner and the store manager are trying to cover up what they have done they have intentionally held my money. Lied numerous times. And today I got concrete proof that they intentionally held my check and lied after many messages, emails, and calls of me stating the huge inconvenience it was causing me. They lied to law enforcement. They lied to me. This is not a place I would recommend to spend your money take it eelsewhere. I have to add my voice to Christina's, Liz's and Stacy's here... if you're looking for a place to sell your gently-worn clothes, the consignment process at Fifi's is really terrible. There's no tracking system, and as a seller you won't receive any updates. It is also a bit frustrating that the store doesn't inform you if any of your garments *haven't* sold before they donate them to Goodwill (although they do inform you of this policy before you consign with them). All the same, it's not a very seller-oriented policy - I would have liked the opportunity to retrieve my unsold items, to see if I could have done better with them elsewhere. I was a bit underwhelmed with the service, too. The staff weren't very responsive when I e-mailed to find out whether my items had sold, and whether I should come by to pick up a check. On another occasion, a staff member at the Durham location was a bit snooty about garments I was looking to sell and which she felt weren't a fit for the shop. Overall, if you're looking to sell quality, name-brand garments in good condition, you'll probably do much better selling them on eBay. I also haven't had very positive experiences here as a consumer. In some cases, it looked to me as though items were being sold at about what they'd retail for during an end-of-season sale at a mall, even though they were used. I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to stop by this store. read more

The people at this store are idiots. I took a Vintage Ferragamo purse in excellent condition to be consigned. I was told I would be emailed a list of my items with pricing and if I did not agree to the prices I could get the items back. I waited several weeks and never got anything. I called and was told they were several weeks behind on listing things, when I asked about my Ferragamo bag. I was told it was listed for $68, I said I wanted it back but then was told it sold for $68! Some one got a hell of a deal. All I got was pissed off. I will never ever consign here again. read more

Not a good place to consign your items. Their communication leaves much to be desired. They don't track things effectively. They do not pay in a timely manner. I've also had items damaged while in their possession. I gave them the benefit of the doubt after some negative experiences, but things have only gotten worse. Extremely poor service. read more

Shopping at Fifi's as a consumer is alright. There are many name brand items throughout the store, and some great finds that retail at fairly high prices for a consignment store. That being said, my experience trying to consign over 12 high end retail pieces, 2 coach purses, and a pair of Hunter boots was somewhat less than enthralling. After holding all of my consigned pieces for over a month I was called and told that none of my items sold. When I asked which items I was informed that one blouse I had brought in hadn't sold. Where my other 11 pieces, 2 purses, and Hunter Boots went is still completely unconfirmed, despite having seen someone at the store purchase my green boots when I went in to the store to shop one afternoon. This company is a complete scam and I will never waste another second in this store. I could not have been more displeased with the service Fifi's offers. I highly suggest you shop and consign elsewhere. read more

You guys really need to read your contract. If you had read the contract you would have a better understanding of their consignment process. And you must understand that they are a small business. To my knowledge, most of their work is done by hand. I don't understand how people leave their expensive clothes in someone else's possession and don't think to check on the status of their items. Like if you drop off a Gucci bag in January, why would you wait until December to see if that item sold or not? I would check every month! Even though it's just consignment, they still honor a contract that YOU have signed! A contract is a contract no matter what. How can you be upset that you can't cash/deposit your checks from 5 years ago knowing that you did not read your contract. Your arguments would never hold up in court. Fifi's is awesome. Their staff is awesome (they are not idiots, they are just doing their job). Most of you are bitter because you didn't read your contract. As an adult it should be common sense to read everything before you sign it. I have consigned with them for years and have never had a problem because I READ MY CONTRACT. I call on the 15th of every month to see if I have a check that I need to pick up. I don't consign anything that I am attached to (why would you consign something if you were going to be particular about it?). I only consign things in good condition so they don't get returned to me. If you would just let them explain their consignment process, I promise most of you would have a much better opinion about Fifi's. I dare someone to name a better consignment store in Durham... If you want to receive the highest return on an item that you bought and do not wear anymore then Fifi's of Durham or Fifi's of Cameron Village are the consignment shops to go to (I think they are both owned by the same woman). The managers and sales associates are always welcoming and there to help. The prices are highly reasonable considering some of the designer and brand name items are in perfect condition. As for the women who said the people who ran the store were "idiots" and didn't keep track of consignors' items or didn't know what good vintage items were, Fifi's sells clothing that has only been in style for 3 or less years. Consignors are given a contact when they bring their items in, and it is up to the consignor to keep track of designer items and money payouts. I just don't understand why people complain so much about the process. If you want to sell your clothing and know each step of the way then try Craigslist. I have never, ever had a problem with Fifi's. I hope this review helps. read more
