Visited again on a Saturday- pretty busy in the parking lot, to donate you drop clothes around the left side of the building and the guys out there are always so nice coming up and carry things from your car unlike Goodwill... They had some really nice patio sets for a great price $30-40 for a bistro set w/ table I've stopped looking through clothes but they have a great variety here as well including shoes (many of which looked new) I personally love the bric brac items and got a plant out, and some small candle holders. The people who work here are always super nice and willing to help out whenever you need it. read more

I have been shopping at this store for YEARS. I used to love it because it's so big and had a little bit of everything. The prices were great, the selection was robust, and the people were nice. Unfortunately lately one of those things has changed drastically: the prices. I have no idea if this is because of new management or what but there's shirts and sweaters and pants for $30, $40, $60 dollars. When I saw the price tags I could not believe it, I kept thinking maybe it was the original tag but then I looked closer, and the tags said "Durham rescue mission". I was baffled. So I went to the books instead because there's no way books would be overpriced right? WRONG!! This Vera Wang wedding book was priced for $85!!! I thought I was being pranked. I decided to go to the cash register and ask a cashier if they could verify the price, and yes the book was $85 (anyways I looked up this book and found it for $25 online). Great store with a huge selection, but one of the older female workers was rude and judgmental. I was buying a bra and a bustier top and she, even with wearing gloves, acted disgusted to hold them and made a snide remark. It just felt inconsiderate given that this store sells so much secondhand undergarments for women, does she judge the ladies who actually have to buy things like bras from here out of necessity? read more

The staff is always tremendously helpful unfortunately prices are way too high! The recent change is insane considering no matter the brand or condition , sweaters are $11 and up. I was looking for sweaters for a trip but knew I could get some on line for just a little bit more or at Ross/TJ/Walmart (even target) . I did a once over in electronics and furniture- ridiculous pricing. Very used/old Crock pots for $25? & $15 plant stands for $20. I won't go back anytime soon, as that 15 minutes gave me all the info I needed to know. This place is ridiculous. They are selling twenty year old couches with stains and wear and tear for $400. There wasn't a couch there under $299 and the majority of them were in mediocre condition at best. I've never seen such price gouging on donated items. They should be ashamed. read more

I shop at all their stores regularly and love their stores. Great stuff, great people and often excellent prices. My only complaint is they've been playing the same few old time religion songs over and over and over all day long at every single store for at least a year. If they knew marketing and sales they'd know that that's the last thing you do. You want music that's pleasant, and doesn't insult any group of shoppers and makes shoppers want to stay longer so they're more likely to buy something. You definitely don't play music that chases them out of the store. Or that's insulting to less religious shoppers, or shoppers that follow a different religion. While you're there it feels like they're trying to shove Jesus down everyone's throats. That's not good store management. It's also incredibly insensitive to their employees, as if they don't care about them at all. Imagine being forced to listen to those same few annoying songs over and over all day long. I'd be ready to kill myself and I sure wouldn't be the friendliest to my customers when it feels like my employer doesn't care about me or creating a pleasant working environment. I wish they could hear the shoppers complaining about it all over the store like I do. Please consider no music or elevator music or anything else, other than that. Thank you. In my travels I like to duck into thrift stores just to see what "treasures" might be hiding within, yesterday I stopped for the night in Roxboro, NC and wandered into this place. Having visited literally hundreds of such places, I'm rarely surprised. Gobsmacked this time! What an amazing place, lots of the same merch as found everywhere, but the size, organization, presentation, cleanliness, and staff friendliness was without question the best I have ever seen in my life. I have been shopping here for 15 years and sadly won't be anymore. I went recently to pick up some items for my kids and found the prices had been hiked quite a bit. The sweaters, once about $5 are now $15, dresses are $10 and up, all other items have similarly increased. Used shoes priced at $40. This store used to serve the community by providing affordable clothing options, but no longer. Very disappointing. These are prices I can find for new items and other boutique used stores in the area sell clothes at a lower price. Not sure what happened? Do not recommend. read more

Almost every time I come here I have the most uncomfortable experiences! 3 out of the last 4 times I've come here, someone has followed me! It's always been older women. Sometimes they have come right up next to me so close I can feel them breathing on me. They never have any items, they just follow me down each aisle and sometimes all the way to check out! Really cool place! I decided to start thrifting more and this was my first stop. It's a huge facility, accessible by a service road off the main road but it's easy to get to. My first thought walking in was that it was so huge it felt overwhelming. I didn't know where to begin. But wandering a little further inside I saw that everything was neatly organized. Men's clothes were right in front of the door. Women's clothing was to the left. I wandered through the blazers and immediately saw something cute. The sizing was laid out so you could easily find your size rack. Plus all of the clothing was organized by color. I thought that made it easy to sift through. I didn't have trouble picking through the clothes. I like to search and shop so I could see myself spending a lot of tome picking out things and having fun. The best part was that all the yellow tag clothes were a dollar. That made the hunt even more fun. I love getting clothes for a dollar. The ladies at the check out were really friendly. They told me that the dollar tag color changes every week. A fun incentive to come back and start the hunt all over again! The back of the thrift store carried furniture and electronics and lots and lots of books. I was impressed by how big and extensive the store was. I will definitely be back for more dollar clothes and maybe to pick out some cute mugs. read more

I did some spring cleaning and had two loads of clothing and accessories that I no longer needed. I've been trying to find a good place to drop it off and Durham Rescue Mission was a perfect choice. The drop off process was smooth. There are a bunch of people to help unload your items. They are friendly too which makes the process a breeze. I was dreading to do the drop off because there are some places that makes it complicated. I'm happy that it was a positive experience. read more

It's so SAD to see such a great organization lose focus of their purpose. Charitable organizations are supposed to support needy, and offer bargains that bargain hunters purchase to help with this. Sadly DR and most others are raising their prices so high, you can find new items in stores for same or less. Your inventory is almost, if not 100% donated! I refuse to pay $6+ for a us d, donated top and even more for dresses. Where did your charity get off track? Just because stores in general are raising prices, does not mean you should. In fact, you'd serve people much better by lowering to realistic ranges. God bless you all, but in the meantime I won't shop or donate to you any more. read more

This is my favorite neighborhood thrift store. Located in a building that used to house a gym, it's massive. There's a furniture section with some great finds (but go often because the good stuff gets snapped up quick!). There's a massive kitchen section (only thing missing is utensils, for some odd reason). Then there's the clothes...the whole left half of the store is clothes. The size and clothing type signs aren't always accurate so my recommendation is to wear comfy shoes, plop in some headphones (they play weird church music, nonstop, which isn't everyone's cup of tea) and just plan on taking your time. The dressing rooms aren't great- half the locks are broken and the mirrors are either warped, very small, or straight up missing (I once bought three striped tshirts at one time because the reflection my phone was providing wasn't helpful enough to show me which one looked best). This is still my favorite just for sheer quantity, the fact that proceeds go to a great cause, and you can always find some gems. Prices can't be beat, also. Donations are also super easy- there's a bin out front or if you go around the left side there's workers who will come out to your car and help. Re covid, there's plexiglass, one way arrows on the aisles, and an employee takes temps and checks and masks at the door. read more

They have a lot here, but the guy at the register was unfriendly to the point where I found myself wondering what his problem was. I said hi, how are you? No answer. No eye contact. Blurred out my total. Yet there's an option to add a tip to the total?? Really? I'll come back because there's a lot of inventory, and the guy with the NY Yankees hat was super nice, but it seems like some people at this business need a reminder that tips require service and service involves warmth. read more

Quite an interesting thrift store! As you enter it seems to be a warehouse of clothes, and it is. But you can duck through several small hallways full of weird books and all sorts of stuff and enter another warehouse of furniture! It seems to turn over inventory very fast. Some of it looked pretty good. The trick with furniture, of course, is how much is it gonna cost you to haul it out of there. I don't know if they have anything on call that they recommend but I will ask next time. read more

Shopping here isn't quite my thing, it hurts my OCD, if you know what I mean. The drop off center though is amazing. I always have stuff that I hold on to simply because trashing them would be such a huge waste. Now that I've discovered the donation center at Durham Rescue Mission, it helps me let go of items that could truly benefit families. Example are my comforter, pans, containers, etc. I recently went through a transition to using glass only so it required me to discard a bunch of household items - some even like-new. I'm so glad they will eventually be in good hands. The donation center is extremely efficient. Once you drive up, there are several fellas, just waiting to take your belongings. You don't even have to get out of the car if you don't want to. Such a seamless process, I encourage everyone to recycle their unwanted items here! Just be sure to check their hours so that you don't arrive to a closed facility. They do have a drop off box, similar to a post office mailbox (see pic) but it doesn't hold large and/or fragile items. read more

Thrift stores are hit or miss but this one always has a big selection to choose from. I've gotten clothes here (my daughter got two prom dresses for dirt cheap), as well as electronics and other household items. They even have an app and track your loyalty account purchases. Even for a thrift store, they'll have occasional sales like $1 a shirt. If you have time and don't mind searching for bagains, this is definitely a place to check out. Plus the money goes to the Durham Rescue Mission, helping out the homeless and people down on their luck. It's a win-win. read more

One of the newer Durham Rescue Missions in the area but large and good selection of household goods, books, clothes and one of the biggest selections of furniture. I think the only other DRM that completes is the location off 70. Thrifty has never been an easy mission for me, I can get overwhelmed by the selection and quality of options. However, if you can overlook that, this location has a large selection of options and many ways to save extra. Wednesdays are student days, when students receive a discount and they also have partners with Bull City Bucks so you have the option of paying with "Bucks" and getting 25-50% discounts! While DRM is a little more expensive then Good Will, I think their selection and organization of materials makes the visit worth while, and they've always got some interesting (religious) tunes playing over the speaker to make your shopping experience that much better. read more

There are three Durham Rescue stores . This site and the Brier Creek location are huge .This is my least favorite . Guard your basket while shopping at this location -- seriously The prices vary at each site . A framed picture e.g might be $69'at one site and a similar painting be 12.99 at another location .Clothing has more stable pricing Donate if you can and search for hidden treasures --which they do have . My go to thrift store in the triangle. Huge clothes selection and overall the store is clean. They also have a furniture and home decor/accessories section. They have started a more expensive clothing section and IMO the items are overpriced (I saw second hand shoes priced at $30 dollars) BUT you can find great deals, today I got a $4 skirt, $4 jeans and a $2 belt. It takes some digging to find treasures but that's part of the fun of thrifting! read more

Awesome thrift store for clothes,shoes and hard goods. The clothing section is quite large and if you are willing to dig you can find lots of goodies. The prices were awesome in clothing. I've concluded that Durham Rescue Mission is the BEST thrift store in Durham. The store is huge and has everything you can imagine. I am currently 9 months pregnant and went in to find a comfortable spring dress that can accommodate my big belly, and I left with 4 dresses (each $5.99) and 1 long skirt (for $3.50)!! The dresses are actually in great condition, really cute, and I could keep wearing them even after the baby comes :) The best part of shopping here, is finding some lightly used, good brand clothing! Three of the dresses I bought for instance were Ann Taylor Loft, Banana Republic and Mossimo (like Target carries). They looked like they'd never even been worn! The store itself is clean, lots of fitting rooms, and the staff is really friendly. When I was checking out, the cashier also mentioned that they actually have a maternity section too - the store is so big I hadn't even noticed. Pants are tricky to shop for, but tops and dresses are easy to browse through. I will definitely be returning in the future. I watched this place like a hawk from the moment the sign went up to the second the marquee read, "Open for business." I finally made it in one Saturday afternoon, and the second I pulled into the packed parking lot, I cursed myself for not going on a weekday. I ended up parking over near the auto diagnostic place, and braced myself for the mayhem of a thrift store on a Saturday. But as it turns out, this place huge, and even though the parking lot was full, there was plenty of breathing room in the store itself! (With one exception: the housewares section in the corner. They have plenty of room to space out those aisles, but of course we have to squeeze by and hope we don't knock down a milk glass candlestick.) Despite being so new, there's a lot of stuff! And the prices are great. I ended up scoring some Dansko clogs for $2.99 and a cute top on the 99-cent "damaged" rack (though it looked fine to me)! And the check-out process was really smooth, with a cashier and a bagger. It's a great Durham thrifting option in a great location. read more

I visited this location recently and must say it was a great experience. There were tons and tons of ladies clothes (not so much for men). They also carried lots of kitchen ware and books. I didnt get a chance to look at any of the furniture. I do love that they give half off for certain color ticketed items which varies each week I believe. I was a little hesitant to visit the restroom but to my surprise it was one of the cleanest public restrooms I'd ever seen. I'll be back for more thrifting! read more

I hate to say it, but this is not a great thrift store if you're looking for a trendy treasure. There are LOTS of clothes, organized very well by size. The down side is that there are many, many out-of-date items and items of poor quality (e.g., worn and faded). You will really have to dig before you can find anything modern or fashionable. I think I spent about 2 hours in here looking through all the stuff. read more

The clothes prices are OK, but, at least in the men's Dept., it's mostly unfashionable or worn out clothing.
