My dining partner and I went to this restaurant on the recommendation of a local business owner. The place turned out to be pretty good (a 3.5 star but since Yelp won't give half stars, I'm giving a bump up). The way it filled up during our visit, it seemed to be a restaurant favored by the locals. While the decor is dated and the service was ho-hum, the menu offered enough variety for most anyone to find something to eat. I ordered the fried chicken and my partner had the burrito special. I started my meal with a salad from the salad bar. While it offered only a modest number of items, everything was fresh. I preferred the small salad bar to none at all. My chicken arrived steaming hot. It was moist and tasty. My mashed potatoes came with the gravy on the side as I ordered. Overall, I found it satisfied my hunger. My dining partner had the chicken burrito (which was recommended by the waitress). While hot and filling, my dining partner called it "alright" and lamented not ordering the chicken. Overall, the community suffers from too many fast food places and not enough local restaurants. If I visited again, I'd certainly opt for this restaurant versus any of the fast food joints. read more

Place looked straight out of the 80s. The good part was the salad bar. Had good dressing and pickled herring. Had a chicken sandwich, just ok. Nothing special. The lady working was not very nice. So overall experience was a meh...with no salad bar I would probably give 1 star. read more

They catered a funeral in 2022 and it was nothing short of OUTSTANDING!!! EXCELLENT food and PLENTY for all! There was enough leftover it took almost a week to get thru! EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT!!!! In 2018 it was chosen to use the northside bowling alley for another funeral gathering and it SUCKED! Unless things have changed in a year you won't be disappointed choosing 5th Ave for your needs! read more

Have visited 5th street and Dixie found them to be very good service and food to be good. Nice 3rd generation eatery inexpensive to.

The interior was cozy and the menu was interesting enough. You can order the salad bar with any burger/sandwich for just $2 extra, which was exciting for me because of the pickled herring (YUM). Our waitress was nice, the drinks were good, and the food was okay. I do wish my burger patty was a little juicier (it was one of those square patties that you just know was previously frozen). I don't know if we'll be back, but it was a decent little place to take my dad for dinner on a weekend. read more

So apparently this restaurant has two sides, or two restaurants within same building. I went to the one on the right that was dark inside. Neither side was atmospheric, but were OK. Nice to see a salad bar but it was missing some basics like tomatoes. It was OK but not great looking, so I passed on that. Staff was really nice and menu sounded interesting enough. I ordered a swishsroom burger with added bacon and the home-cut American fries. It took quite a while to get our food. And the Diet Coke I ordered came in a can - I was hoping from the fountain like most restaurants. I've eaten plenty of well-done burgers throughout my 50+ years and can't recall not eating one I ordered before. I could not eat this burger. First, the burger had no moisture at all and no flavor. Second, the bacon was disgusting. I absolutely hated the flavor of the bacon! I have never walked away from a cooked piece of bacon before. I also didn't eat my burger meat. I took the top bun and folded in the mushrooms, which tasted like they were canned, and ate that. Fries were overcooked. $18+ dollars later ($14 + $4 tip), I went to McDonald's. And that was a little better, and that's really saying something. Schroeder's Gifts staff suggested this place. Please stop sending people there! This place has a decent atmosphere, soothing place to visit with friends. The food seems to be pretty good, ok prices, and martini specials on Tuesday nights, and margarita specials on (I think it's) Wednesday nights. These drinks are yummy, strong, and cheap. The service seems to suck with a waitress or two. One of them drags her feet along like a walking mummy or something... lol. But, they have good food, good atmosphere, and good drinks. read more

Not Great. Burger was lacking in flavor and moisture. Cheese Curds were barely ordinary, plus they serve them on a napkin which is completely foolish because the cheese sticks to the paper. USE WAX PAPER PEOPLE!!! The half inch thick pickles were ho-hum. Garlic Fries were the star of the show, with the ranch/dill dressing. Also the waitress was in the bottom five of friendliness I've ever experienced. Will not ever go back. read more
