All doctors are different, Dr k is very good in that he is less conservative than other docs. I had issues where after researching, i found a "certain drug " to be my answer. I went to several other docs, and they were afraid to prescribe it to me. Then i heard about dr krauss, and he was comfortable prescribing it. In and out in under 5 minutes. How great is that? Then one month, i missed my dr K appointment and had to go to another doc, I asked for my "certain drug" and he said no, then I showed my bottle and said its a refill because my usual doc is out of town, and suddenly it was ok to prescribe it. I guess most docs are afraid to be the first one to take the leap and prescribe something with "certain connotations" Thank goodness for brave ppl like dr k. Dr k, , he is 100% legit. Everything he does is legal and within his scope of practice. The meds he prescribes are based on your complaint, and he assesses your condition like any other doctor. Very fast he does it, but fast does not mean bad. He wont prescribe you drugs that may harm you as he do ask you what else you are on and what medical conditions you have. I like dr krauss. His style is not for everyone, but if you are educated, know what treatment you want to try for your condition, he can help you. Try to bring exact change because I didn't and it was a bit of an ordeal to get change. The office assistant is nice but as far as organization goes its a bit all over the place. Overall - a great experience. Welcoming environment, lovely receptionist, the wait wasn't very long at all, and DR. Kraus is a good guy. I normally don't take the time to write reviews but, some of the others really helped me to inform me about what to expect and helped me to feel confident in my choice. Plus, a good practice deserves positive acknowledgment - that way it could help others in the future. My experience: I didn't know what to expect considering some of the mixed reviews but, decided I would at least make an appointment and judge for myself. The building and the office were easy to find so, no issues there. Once inside, check-in was quick and painless and - as I mentioned - the receptionist was super friendly, nice and personable. Instructed me to fill out some quick paperwork - with some basic personal information and medical history. The waiting room was nice and minimal, semi-crowded with patients called in the order they arrive. On average, most appointments seem to last ~10 mins (not all obviously), some shorter if they are current patients of Dr. Kraus. My wait to see DR. Kraus was probably 15 minutes or so. Once brought into DR. Kraus' office, he greeted me, welcomed me to sit down, and started to review my paperwork. He asked me the usual first-time patient questions: Asked me what brings me in today, etc. We discussed my personal history, reviewed my medical history, and discussed options for my particular case. The actual appointment lasted ~15/20 minutes (probably because it was my first time). Dr. Kraus instructed me to swing by the receptionist's desk on the way out and make a follow-up appointment to review in 1-months time. At the desk, I made my follow-up appointment and the receptionist asked me for my pharmacy address/information. *Side note: She recommended I use Capsule (The new online-based, NYC delivery pharmacy). I had never used them before but, figured I would give it a shot because she recommended it. Turns out they are actually great, super easy, and I will be using them for everything going forward. For those who praise him because they "know what they want," it's true he'll write a prescription for pretty much anything you want. He is perfect for people who know what their issue is and just need someone to help build a controlled medical regimen without spending an arm and a leg. I would never recommend him for any serious mental issues, but for someone who just wants to manage her panic attacks without committing so much time and money, he is a God sent. His secretary then had maybe a 30 second private conversation with the doctor and immediately rejected me as a patient. I'm absolutely saddened as a person that suffers from ongoing clinical depression and anxiety that he would turn me away without even a consultation. Preamble ------------- I have been in and out of Doctor's offices and Emergency Rooms for 4 months with no diagnosis. I have been having life-threatening symptoms and attacks; shortness of breath, tightness in neck and chest when taking breaths, lightheaded and feeling feint, congestion and chronic cough and clearing the throat. The first visit to Maimonides ER 4/1, I received a Chest Xray and EKG, everything was normal and received no treatment. The second visit (6/12)I was prescribed Prednisone and Albuterol for Chronic Bronchitis. The third visit was by ambulance; my blood pressure was 190/100, humans have strokes at around 250/110. All of their guesses, since they didn't run any tests apart from Chest Xray and EKG, were conditions that cause anxiety. Anxiety and stress also cause physical conditions to worsen. After being brought by ambulance and almost blacking out, I asked the Resident Dr. for something to calm me down to stop the feedback loop and synergy between the anxiety and any possible physical condition. He prescribed 10 tablets of .25mg Xanax. Very small amount and dosage. I'm sure he would be scolded for prescribing it because it's a "psychiatric" drug, despite it being such a small amount that it's not enough to cause dependency or addiction. I picked it up on the way home.and was void of about 80% of my physical symptoms that had been haunting me day in day out. Constant congestion, clearing the throat, coughing so much that my; lymph nodes, neck and left shoulder was sore. He only prescribed me enough for 2 days, which was exactly enough to get my to an appointment with my GI specialist for an endoscopy. The first visit about 2 months earlier (4/1) to Maimonides ER said "Unknown cause" on the discharge papers, but the doctors told me verbally that it "was probably panic attacks or acid reflux". I had my endoscopy done. No sign of acid reflux, GERD, or esophageal erosion caused by acid reflux. Though he did find I had H. Pylori, which many people have but don't experience symptoms from. I spoke to my PCP the same day, they're in the same office. Explained the situation at the ER, and he gave me 10 days worth of the same dosage of Xanax after much negotiating. I had to tell him I need enough to find and schedule an appointment. As a General Practitioner he did not want to prescribe psychoactive drugs either, especially the most addictive/abused/dangerous kind. ------------------ Dr. Kraus I had been on Xanax for about a week. I saw Dr. Kraus and the session was very short. I would say 10 minutes. When it comes to medical issues, especially circumstances that are undiagnosed and can still be physical or psychological, I wasn't pleased with the treatment. He is kind, quiet, almost reclusive -- but he does rush sessions because he usually has a line worse than amusement parks. Needless to say, he gave me a month's supply of the same dosage: 1.5mg per day via 6 tablets of .25 Xanax, as well as Celexa (an SSRI anti-depressant that is prescribed off-label for anxiety). Over the next few weeks, my body adapted quickly to the Xanax and my tolerance went up. My life had also taken a 180 for the better. I was unemployed for around 4 years and got the best job I've ever had within a week of being on this regimen. The following 2 months until now, I have run short on Xanax every time. I am also a cigarette smoker which "dramatically reduces the amount of xanax in your bloodstream" if you do a quick search. To be honest, I kept trying to switch away from Dr. Kraus due to the short sessions. I think my problem is rooted with social anxieties and general poor health/fitness in the past boiling to a culmination. I have went to Maimonides Psych ER, they diagnosed me as Substance Abuse. I have went to Bellevue Psych Outpatient Clinic, They are robots programmed to say "We don't prescribe benzos, go to detox". Both times I received the same assembly line 5-10 minute evaluation. No psychiatric referrals, no suggestion for therapy, they didn't even look at my meticulous medical records I have kept for this purpose (diagnosis). NO PATIENT CARE. Nobody except Dr. Kraus has the balls to prescribe me Xanax. He is trying to switch me over to an SSRI, and verbally said if I keep going this route I'm going to end up on Xanax for life. He is concerned, he isn't a coward or bound by hospital liabilities. To punctuate these claims. Here are the tests I have taken to rule out a physical condition: Vitals (In ambulance 190/100, in hospital normal) Chest X-Ray (normal) EKG x2 (normal) Thyroid Bloodwork (normal) CBC Bloodwork (normal) Endoscopy (abnormal, but no acid reflux or GERD, only H. Pylori which I was treated for) Stethoscope lung and heart evaluations (normal) I have taken: Zithromax (Zpack) for a possible lung infection Prednisone, Albuterol (for possible Chronic bronchitis) Amoxicillin, Biaxin, Prevacid (for definite H. I just finished filing a complaint on Dr. Kraus with my healthcare provider. The man is a crook. My first (and only) visit was horrible. When I arrived I sat with 4 other patients in a waiting room. I was nervous that he was going to be one of those doctors where I would have to wait forever, but one by one the 4 others were in and out of his office in 5 minutes (which I thought was totally bizarro). He called me in, didn't even look at me or introduce himself and immediately asked me for my Insurance card and deductible. I explained that my deductible had already been met, and that I was to pay 20% of the session (which I had spent the previous night confirming and reconfirming with my insurance). He got on the phone with my insurance company for 15 minutes while I sat there twiddling my thumbs and looking at other peoples insurance information that he had strewn across his office floor. He got off the phone and told me my deductible had NOT been met and I would have to pay him $150 up front for the session. I immediately knew this guy was trouble. I told him I didn't have the cash on me, that he was incorrect and that if he didn't mind waiting (like I just did) I would re-call the insurance company right then to work it out. He basically told me he wouldn't treat me unless I paid him cash upfront because "they are not ganna pay me". He kept my insurance information and I'm sure he will try to bill me for the session. I told him after I confirmed w/ my insurance, that I would reschedule. I immediately called my insurance after, and once again confirmed that my deductible was already met in full. He wanted to both get the cash from me AND bill my insurance. Total scheme. Didn't even look me in the eye most of the time. I got the total sleazeball vibe the second I walked into his office. However, if you don't mind paying this quack $150 so he can write you a prescription and be out of his office in 5 minutes, he will be the perfect doctor for you. read more

Well I like him. With my schedule, I appreciate the straight-forwardness. He cares about his patients in his own way.

I'm going to give an in depth first impression opinion here. It's a very informal operation. Get there early to sign in. He does make several appointments at once but they are 3-5 minutes long. I had my first visit with Dr. Kraus even after reading dozens of mixed reviews. I was one of the first in the office and I signed in. It is very informal. There was no lengthy paperwork or intake process which is fairly unusual I agree. She just asked for my name, address, phone number, and my pharmacy. The receptionist was nice but again very relaxed and wasn't set up like you expect. She's just at a desk with a cell phone and a point of sales tablet. There weren't a bunch of papers thrown around like others have stated. It looked fairly organized. Very small office in a room in the middle of other offices. After a few people signed in, she asked for our payment which everyone had cash for. Once the Dr showed up he immediately saw the first person on the list. He was out in 3 minutes and poked his head in to signal for the next person to come in which was me. He asks what brings me in today. I tell him I was diagnosed with ADHD in college and have been going to therapy for treatment for a while after trying the meds from my physician for a few months. He cut me off and asked my symptoms. I told him then he asked if the meds helped in the past. I said yes. He asked why I stopped and I gave my explanation of being a younger college student and being a little worried about dependency. Up until 10 years later my life was fairly managed and I could figure out clever ways around my procrastination and inattentiveness but now these issues are starting to impact my professional career. He asked about my previous dosage and then asked if I would like to start the meds again. I say yes and he asks me a series of questions about current health and previous issues like a normal doc would. He got on his computer and sent over the script to the pharmacy for a fairly low dose of meds. approx. 1/3 of what I took 10 years ago. He said he is going to start me off small because you simply can't jump back in to a dosage you had years ago. The body changes and we'll see how you do on this. After that, I was on my way. Some people say he was rude, he doesn't care, and he's a pill factory. WELL while I can see it being easy to go in and get pills from him, he does actually care about your well being. He could've just given me the old 30mg I was on and say come back for your refill. He took a good bit of notes and explained why he was giving me a small dose which I agreed with. Next, this is not a therapist. You aren't there to spill out your problems so this isn't that type of treatment. He is quick but honestly, I don't know what else I would have to ask him or be explained. Even when I saw my PCP back in college and got diagnosed, my follow ups would really only be 10-15 minutes. Only thing different was he checked my vitals as a PCP. It was how are you doing? Are the meds helping, are you having trouble sleeping, are you having any headaches, ok we'll keep the same dosage or up or lower depending on my progress. Again this is NYC and I noticed a lot of reviews from people who were coming from out of state or upstate and this isn't anything like a larger practice in the suburbs. Very small scale and efficient. His direct and to the point approach could be mistaken for rude but he seemed nice to me. If you have a diagnosis or fairly educated and know what you are suffering from, then he can get you the meds to help. If you are just looking for pills and you actually get them then so be it but personal responsibility is key. As far as his price. He does not accept insurance. it's $250 for the first visit and $200 for follow ups. This is what my copay would be for a similar doctor in NYC with my employer provided health care plan. Overall, if you are looking for a simple way to continue your prescription treatment and don't have insurance or have high copays, this is the guy. If you are looking for more in depth treatment then seek a therapist or psychologist. He will find a treatment plan for you, listens to what you say, and sends you on your way. read more

I had been seeing Dr Kraus for a few months.. yes the sessions were very brief, the wait long & the office messy. But I was fine with it.. I was there to maintain a prescription, not for traditional counseling. The little we talked I actually grew to like him a bit. The trouble arose when I had to reschedule an appointment. I called his answering service many times but never reached him or a secretary. I left messages and never got a call back. Unsure what to do I showed up in person and after gruffly chiding me for showing up on the wrong day and refusing to see me that evening (which I understood.. but there was no excuse for his anger at my request to reschedule) he told me to come in 2 weeks later. I showed up on the day he told me to and found an empty office. I called his "answering service" and the mailbox was full. Basically he disappeared (is he okay?), leaving me having to go without my prescription while I search for a new doctor. I left him a note on the day he told me to come in with my contact info and never heard a thing. Irresponsible and insensitive. He cares more about the wad of co-pay cash in his pocket than about his patients. read more

The absolute worst experience I've ever had with a doctor. First, I want to say that Dr. Kraus appears to have moved offices twice in the last two years. Not a good sign. His last office, which was the only one I had the misfortune of ever experiencing, was a filthy, dingy basement office with a tiny waiting room furnished by two uncomfortable chairs, a pile of year-old magazines, and an ugly radiator. No windows. There'd typically be 2-3 people in the room (meaning somebody would probably be standing). I believe this was the consequence of Dr. Kraus double-booking people. His office was untidy--dirty, even--with towering stacks of patient files cluttering his desk, which was obviously useless for its intended purpose. His bookshelves contained a few books which had been tossed there haphazardly. A vacuum cleaner stood in one corner, but it seemed to have never been used. An ugly lamp with no shade offered a little mood light, and more files and other debris cluttered the worn easy chair that he would carefully ease himself into when conducting his business. Here's my impression of a typical session with Dr. Kraus: patient ushered in; patient's name asked for; patient file searched for at length, maybe not found at all (in which case the patient's insurance information would be taken down again and a new treatment history based solely on the patient's memory would be written down); copay, in cash, asked for; doctor listens to patient's problems; doctor ignores what patient has told him, asks patient questions the patient has already given him the answer to, such as "are you depressed?" or (in the case of a complaint about a drug causing insomnia as a side-effect) "are you having a hard time sleeping at night?"; doctor gives patient a prescription; patient leaves awkwardly. The problem with Dr. Kraus, essentially, is that in New York City, health insurance pays psychiatrists only a fraction of what they'd pay a physical doctor--the result being that anyone truly qualified to help people usually doesn't accept health insurance at all. Therefore, only people with a lot of money or the willingness to shell out $150+ per session can get decent psychiatric care. Dr. Kraus probably couldn't get away with implementing such a policy. Instead, he keeps an office conveniently near a treasure trove of penniless depressives (the NYU campus). He, as far as I can tell (and this is strictly my opinion and based on my own experience) double-books patients and keeps session length to an absolute minimum by ignoring patient complaints and distilling their problems down to what can be answered by a couple of 'yes' and 'no' questions. I also should mention that Dr. Kraus seems to see his patients only two days a week, provides an indirect method of contacting him (he has a "scheduling service" that will return your phone calls), and, according to his scheduling service, absolutely will not allow a pharmacist to contact him to refill your prescription. My advice to you, should you be new to the city and searching for psychiatric care, is to see your primary care physician about the problem and ask them what they think you should do. If it's something simple, they may be able to write the prescription for you. Also, seek out a talk therapist and try to determine if you really need to be treated with medication at all. And please, please, please DO NOT go to Dr. Kraus. If anybody has had a better experience with a psychiatrist who accepts health insurance, however, I'd like to hear about it! read more

I showed up to an apartment that does not have his name anywhere to be found and when I tried calling the number I used to book the appointment and the same number listed on the Internet, I got no response. This guy, Dr. Kraus, is one of the most unprofessional doctors I've have ever experienced in over 20 years of being in therapy. The office has no receptionist, no one to greet you, and has boxes laying around the waiting area. When I finally saw him (after waiting over 20 minutes past my scheduled visit) with just my insurance card, he turned me away for not having enough documentation. When I told him that that's what the toll-free provider number was for, he said "Well, I'm not going to spend 30 minutes on the phone with the insurance company--that's your job." Best doctor in NYC if you're looking for a professional to help you find what you're looking for. Visits are short and to the point. Don't expect a hand-holder or shoulder to cry on. Don't schedule an appointment if you have somewhere else to be, waiting can take a while, so keep your phone charged and cash on hand as they do not accept insurance. If any prescriptions are issued, it's best to send them to your local pharmacy and not the one near the Dr's office. Show up to the office early, maybe 30 minutes before your appointment time, just to secure your spot, and maybe a seat. Just be honest about what you're going through. Get to the nitty gritty because other patients are waiting and see what the doctor says. He will ask you questions about allergies and past medications unlike some of the older reviews say. The office is clean and quiet and there's no drama. The receptionist is a nice person and polite. Everyone saying the doctor is a "crook" are probably drug addicts that were not prescribed something he knew they were going to abuse. A real crook wouldn't care, would they? Follow the doctors' orders and any prescriptions to the letter -- that's the recipe for success. read more

If I could give a 0 I would. This doctor is a money-sucking man, who DOES NOT CARE ABOUT HIS PATIENTS. Only cares about taking your money. You make an appointment, and you sit there for an hour because he packs in 40 appointments at a time. And don't bother calling his office, they won't pick up. I have been prescribed a medication over the past several years, which I refill on a monthly basis. When I went to him this past week, he prescribed me a third of that medication because he wanted me to come more often (meaning= he wants more money). I explained to him, I could not come to his office on a monthly basis because I am in school out of state, and I see a doctor on a monthly basis there, and I have been studying abroad for the past several months, hence why I have been unable to come to him every month, unless he wants to pay for my flights. I also explained to him, now that I home in the summer, I could come every month for the time being. He obviously did not care and still prescribed me a third of my prescription. After only realizing he did when I picked up my prescription (as it very difficult for him to talk about anything during the 20 seconds he actually sees you) I called back his office, and the receptionist told me she would call me back, never did. I had to call back over 30 times to ever receive a call back, 4 days later!!!!! After I FINALLY got in touch with them, they asked for my doctor out of state to fax them a copy of my records, as proof this is how I take my medication. My doctor out of state, obviously said she would do this, and even asked to call the doctor herself because she said that this was "odd" of the doctor to do. She explained to him that yes this is my prescription and faxed my records, as was asked. AND THEY STILL DID NOT ACCEPT THIS. Dr. Kraus then RUDELY calls me and goes I still won't do this, and goes are you gonna keep on calling my office? Yes, Dr. Kraus I obviously will never return to you, you are an awful doctor, but thank you for screwing me over this month and giving me the improper dosage, as I have no option to go to a real doctor over the time being because he already prescribed me for this month. And yes, calling an office several times, is generally what happens when your profession does not answer your phone. This doctor is a horrible doctor and a horrible person and really should be investigated. Oh and heads up, he WILL call you a "difficult patient" when you expect him to do his job as a doctor. Dr. Kraus has been absolutely wonderful. I've been a patient of his for about 3 years. Maybe even more. I refuse to see any one else for treatment. He does exactly what a real doctor is supposed to do. Which is find a treatment plan that works best for you. He is very honest and has given me the proper care I need. I am one out of many of his loyal patients. So grateful that I got lucky to find a doctor that is experienced in his field of medicine. read more

Just repeating what everyone else says. His office is dirty with stacks of papers strewn all over the room. I gave him a second chance because he had just moved offices at our first meeting, but it was just as bad the second time. At our meeting, he didn't introduce himself but just asked for my insurance. Then I sat there for ten minutes in silence while he searched for my paperwork and then filled out a claim. He didn't make eye contact the whole time and clearly wanted me in and out as quickly as possible. I won't be returning. read more

I have absolutely no idea why all these reviews are so bad. I had my first appointment with Dr. Kraus last week, and I thought he was personable, efficient and easy to talk to. He was not rude to me as others stated and spent 15-20 minutes with me, not 3.... I explained that my depression has been worsening after losing my step mother, and the drama surrounding it is giving me terrible anxiety to the point in which I've had 2 panic attacks and am suffering from horrible and frequent insomnia . He listened, asked questions and helped discuss medication dosing with me. He explained that my PCP wasn't getting the dosing on Zoloft right and that he'd get me feeling better. He also didn't bat an eye when I requested xanax for anxiety instead of the klonopin most doctors try to give instead (which doesn't work well for me at all, and I need to get enough anxiety relief to relax enough to at least try and sleep ) My PCP prescribed it in the past, but she'd always say I was her ONLY patient on it and really didn't like writing it. He made me feel at ease, and I was very nervous, his fee was in cash, but wasn't outrageous. The visit was overall successful and I would recommend. Only issue was the over booking, but they're likely very busy. read more

I have insurance, but since he always gave me such a hard time about the 'right' paperwork to bring and yelled at me even when I brought the things he specifically asked for, I gave up and just paid the $150 cash each time. After a year of seeing him I left NYC for a few months. When I returned I went to see him again. My entire medical chart of over a yr+ was one piece of computer paper with just a few of his handwritten scribbles on it. It was so sloppy, he couldn't read his own writing and gave me 2 incorrect prescriptions and refused to give me another because he could not remember previously writing it. I had to then go to my pharmacy, have them print out my records of them filling it with him as the prescribing Dr and take it back to him. Since I had left work early the previous night only to wait over 3 hours with about 30 other people to be seen while he was late then took personal calls and refused to see patients, I could not leave work early again. I paid out of pocket for a messenger to hand deliver the documents to him. Big mistake. The messenger called saying he was being difficult and yelling at him. So I left work in Midtown to go downtown and deal with him. I walk in and he is sitting in his 'waiting room' sweaty, pants unbuttoned, wild eyes. He blew up as soon as I asked what was wrong, threatened to call the police if I did not leave, and refused to give me back my papers. He was the one who demanded I come down to his office. I don't know what his problem is. If you clearly don't NEED, but WANT an adderall or anti-anxiety script, go see him I guess. But I now see a normal Dr who I pay a $30 co pay each visit, who is on time, PLEASANT, has an office phone number, and writes the same prescriptions he did. It is possible to find a Dr who gives you what you need (if you truly need it) and who will actually show some modicum of concern for you as a patient without having to sustain significant verbal abuse and blatantly disrespectful behavior. I did it for over a year because I was new to NYC. Never again- this man is way more of a threat to mental health then he is any sort of treatment. BEWARE. read more

I had my initial consultation with Dr. Kraus today and I must say I've never felt more comfortable with a doctor than I did with him. He was extremely nice, asked relevant questions about my medical and social history, wrote notes the entire consultation, and was very pleasant! We went over my. Hereby medications and he increased one by 50 mg, which is probably needed (SSRI) and told me about taking it in the morning versus at night, etc. If you are going to see him for medicine ONLY, don't waste his nor your time. I asked him about a medication that my good friend was given that has helped her very much and he said, "Not at this time, let's try with the increase in your Zoloft and take it from there". Who cares what you think about his office setting? The medical secretary/receptionist was very pleasant as well! Well, I was given a follow-up visit for one month and you can bet I'll be there unless I need to speak to him before, i.e., if increase in med isn't working. I worked in the medical field since 1975 so I know what I'm speaking about when it comes to "judging" a medical professional! BTW, my wait time was 15 minutes!!! read more

I just walked out of my "appointment" with Dr. Kraus and am completely shocked by the lack of professionalism. I scheduled the appointment through his scheduling service and when I asked what I needed to bring to the appointment, they told my insurance card and a printed copy of my deductibles page. I waited in the waiting room for 30 minutes past my scheduled appointment and when I finally went in - he said that he could not see me because he would need at least 30 minutes to verify that I had reached my deductible. I then said I was confused because I brought everything his receptionist instructed me too. He said that I shouldn't "blame his receptionist". He then asked if I wanted to reschedule my appointment and I said "no thank you, I will find another doctor". He was completely rude and unprofessional and I regret that I did not read the Yelp reviews prior to making an appointment with him. read more

This guy is one of the most unprofessional and inconsistent doctors I've ever seen. You will have to wait for at least 30-45 minutes most times you see him. His office is completely disorganized and clearly has no memory or relationship with any of his patients. He's awkward and cold, and makes barely any eye contact with you the entire session. The minute you walk in he asks you your insurance, even though I've told him 10 times what it is, so he clearly does not document any of his work with patience....I have no idea how the guy hasn't been audited by insurance companies yet given that he keeps no record or notes. Sometimes my interactions will be quick and impersonal, other times he's cordial and outgoing and I've had long conversations with him, and then other times he's been COMPLETELY inappropriate and honestly hostile,aggressive and rude. He keeps no patient records and simply asks you what you're taking, anyone off the street could walk in and ask him for anything. Every single time I see him, I tell him the same things over and over, so he clearly does not listen and keeps no record of any conversations. After seeing him a few times and waiting in his waiting area, it's pretty clear that his name gets around to college kids in NYC - as the average patient looks about 18-21 years old. I'm in my early 30s and was beginning to wonder what the heck all these young kids were coming into see him for. I actually feel bad for the guy because he clearly is fed up with drug seeking kids walking in his door, yet he continues to see them and prescribe them meds so he must be strapped for money or something. He clearly does not care about the needs of his patients at ALL, and is not warm or emphatic by any stretch of the imagination. With that said, he's reasonably priced, and if you're looking for a quick and easy doctor who will refill your meds with no questions asked, he's your guy. If you need therapeutic support, do NOT go to Dr. Kraus. If you like surprises and think it's fun to walk into your doctors office and not know if he's going to be cold, talkative, or abusive, then Dr Kraus is your doctor. I'm only continuing to see him because he's cheaper than most other doctors in New York, and close to my apartment. As soon as I find someone else, I will be leaving this sleezy doctor! This doctor does not deserve to be practicing and treating patients. He does not care about you; he just cares about getting his cash quickly. He is argumentative, condescending, and ignorant on how to assess, treat and relate to a patient. I came in for an appointment after being diagnosed with ADD by my therapist of 5 years, who I have spoken endlessly with for the past few months about my condition, after which we did a proper brain-map analysis (since he specializes in neurofeedback therapy) comparing it to a database, and after weeks of careful deliberation, diagnosed me with ADD after ruling out other possibilities. The database analysis also showed I tested positive for ADD. (high theta with eyes open, high alpha eyes closed) I was hoping to explain this careful, detailed and nuanced story to Mr Kraus, but he refused to listen and just assumed that I was depressed. His justification was that he simply thought I looked depressed coming into the door, and therefore assumed that was my main problem. Any attempt that I made to further explain myself, he cut me off and accused me of reading too much pop psychology and went on to prescribe me Zoloft. This is a reprehensible method of practice - his license should be taken away. Oh, and another way that he tried to justify his diagnosis was the old ad hominem, "I've been doing this for years". Beware of any doctor who uses that piss logic to justify a diagnosis for you - or anyone with "credentials" who uses any kind of fallacious reasoning. read more

Dr Krause is a excellent dr but his substitute dr was not the same ,I had. Spoken to dr Krause and he understood my problem and gave me the only medicine that works for me but his replacement wasn't comfortable writing my medicine, that Iv been taking for years, if Dr Krause isn't there the substitute dr isn't good at all , he wasn't comfortable writing my medicine but he was completely comfortable taking &250 dollars read more

Very similar experience with Kraus. Dirty, almost bizarre office - piles of papers and files stacked up everywhere. The guy spent the entire appointment shuffling papers, never looking up from them. No interaction beyond asking for insurance info, asking for co-pay, ignoring the few questions asked and handing over prescription. When asked about side effects, he dismissed the question. Very scary. Never went back, but sincerely hope any one seeking psychiatric help checks out this board and steers clear. read more
