Stopped in at Fig Kitchen on a whim and ended up staying way longer than planned. This place is really good. Had the fig salad, which everyone seems to rave about, and yeah, it deserves the hype. Fresh, dressed properly, actually filling. The shoestring fries are a problem in the best way. I also got one of the bowls based on what the staff recommended and it was excellent, the kind of food that makes you slow down between bites. What I liked most is that you can tell someone in the kitchen actually cares. Local ingredients, seasonal stuff, and the vegan and gluten friendly options are not slapped on as an afterthought. Everything on the menu feels like it was thought about. Staff were lovely, room is bright and easy to sit in for a while, and the prices are fair. Walked out feeling good, which is rare these days. I came to this place on a weekend around the early afternoon with a few friends. When we arrived, there were only a couple of patrons and we were able to get a seat out on the patio. I got he Buffalo cauliflower pizza, which was really good. The crust was very different from other crusts I've had; it was very fluffy and thick, and it was quite enjoyable. It's a lot for one person, so I did share half with another friend. One thing I want to note is that we waited a long time for the food to come out. When it eventually did, the server let us know the pizza was burned so they prepared another one for us. It would have been nice if they gave us a heads-up earlier, but I assume this kind of thing is a rare occurrence. Cute little place for lunch. Service is a bit slow but the team is super friendly and nice. The menu is very diverse in terms of North American cuisines mixed with some Asian flavours. The presentation of the dishes is very pleasing to the eye. We came with our kids so they had cheese quesadilla, cheese pizza and fingers and fries. I had the breakfast sandwich and my wife had the eggplant falafel bowl. I was very satisfied with my sandwich - the bagel was soft, eggs were hard fried and turkey bacon was great. My friend and I wanted to get together. We generally meet in Durham, as it's our midpoint distance-wise. She tossed Uxbridge out as a suggestion. Funny. We both had never been to Uxbridge. I only know it from taking the GO Markham-Stouffville line when I used to work in downtown Toronto, where the train announcer would say Uxbridge immediately after Stouffville. I said yes to her suggestion, as it's always fun discovering a new place with her. I am normally the one who jumps on finding a place for us to eat. I was out and about a couple of Saturdays ago, and couldn't get to it quickly. My friend jumped in and sent me Fig Kitchen & Market;s menu. My friend is vegan. So is Fig. I took one look at the milkshakes and dark chocolate cake, and said yes. Yes, I memorized the dessert menu. My friend didn't think that it was weird because she wanted a milkshake, too! We met last Saturday at 2:30 pm. I found the parking lot next to the eatery and parked. My friend had missed the turn and parked around the block instead. I saw her walking over. I got out of my car and we walked over to Fig. I was happy to see that the market part of this place had Vegan Rob's snacks. My friend knows how much I love this brand. There were chocolate peanut butter cups and some other yummy snacks. A woman greeted us. We wanted to dine in. She said to sit wherever we'd like. We chose a table in a corner of the restaurant. We got menus and took some time to look at them. My friend got the fish filet sandwich with shoestring fries. Then, there was my order: - Vegetable potstickers - Peanut noodle bowl - Peach Italian soda We also got water. It hit the spot. I loved my peach Italian soda. It was fizzy, full of peach flavour, and slightly sweet. So refreshing! The vegetable potstickers came out next. I got my friend to have one. They were crispy and pan-fried perfectly. They were hot, so I cut mine in half with my fork. It was so weird not using chopsticks to eat them. The dipping sauce was delicious. It was a bit spicy. The veggie filling was seasoned well. We both enjoyed them. My peanut noodle bowl came out next. There were a lot of cold noodles. I would have preferred to have a smaller portion of noodles. The fried tofu cubes were excellent. They were so tasty and crunchy. I'd be happy if they were an appetizer on their own. My bowl had fresh veggies, basil, mango, pineapple, a lime wedge, and a house peanut sauce that had a bit of a spicy kick. It took a bit of time for me to eat everything with a fork (again, I was so missing chopsticks), but I did it. My friend enjoyed her fish filet sandwich. It had slaw on it and she loved it a lot. We both remarked that she got a ton of shoestring fries. She said that they were good, but there were too many of them. She left some on her plate. We paid at the table. Our server brought the payment machine. I paid with a credit card and all was great. We both used the washroom on separate occasions. The women's was spacious and clean. It is a single stall. After our late lunch, we did some sightseeing. We both had milkshakes on our minds. We came back here. The same staff were happy to see us again. We both got strawberry milkshakes. I took one look at the gluten-free s'mores cookie in the display case and knew that I had to have it. Done! I treated my friend. She got a couple of gluten-free banana cherry chocolate and banana blueberry muffins. She planned on bringing them home because she was still stuffed. I paid with a debit card. It worked nicely. I had change from my night market outing and put some in the tip jar. The woman behind the counter thanked me. She was so nice. She said that she'd bring our milkshakes to us. I took my cookie in a paper bag. We chose to sit on the patio this time, as the sun wasn't as strong and there was now a nice breeze. We waited patiently for our milkshakes. When they arrived, we were ecstatic. The cool thing about eating at a vegan restaurant is that I don't have to worry about dairy and what it may do to this borderline lactose-intolerant person. The ice cream had a coconut milk base. The whipped cream was so good and not sweet. I normally don't like whipped cream, but was on board with this version. The strawberry puree was so good. This shake was excellent. We both loved it. I also loved my s'mores cookie. The toasted marshmallows were perfect. The cookie was crispy around its perimeter and chewy inside. The chocolate chunks were yummy. It was a delicious gluten-free cookie. We used the washroom one final time before we parted ways. We thanked the staff for everything. They were so kind and wonderful. We loved this eatery. My friend did well finding this place, which is open till 7 pm on Saturdays.
