We were exploring Uxbridge market up the street and decided to grab a quick brunch before heading home. Due to the heavy rain, their patio seating was closed and they had only indoor seating. This meant they didn't have tables when we came in, so we ordered take out. Luckily, a couple left and they asked if we'd like to sit in instead. Even as we waited, they offered us some coffee to warm up, on them. So incredibly sweet! We ordered the peameal benny, which was really delicious. Loved the bread they used for it. It tasted so good and just...homemade! The eggs were perfectly yolky, too. The potatoes on the were just the most perfectly fried with the crisp exterior and fluffy insides. It was seasoned well too! Loved it. We also got the crab cake benny which was amazing. The crab cakes are really just packed crab meat, no random filler ingredients or doughy bits. Just straight crab, seasoned nicely. Eggs again were perfection and so were the potatoes. My only negative with this one was the bed of carrot/radish pickles under the crabcakes. It's the asian style, but I think they forgot sugar in the brine. It was straight vinegar and I couldn't eat it. I really love pickles but this was so acidic. Overall a highly enjoyable brunch. Looking around Urban Pantry, I can't help but think that it represents the worst parts of farm-to-table restaurants. The food flirts with fusion ideas but fails to commit. The produce is fresh and flavorful, but poorly utilized. The prices are high, the service is merely acceptable, and the ambiance feels sterile. Every dish I had was a disappointment, not because any were bad, but because they come close to good before settling into mediocrity. Zucchini Fries Easily the best thing I had during my visit. The zucchini is fresh and juicy. The breading could be better, but the whipped ricotta dip with sumac elevated each bite. Thai Crab Salad A letdown of epic proportions. It lacked acidity, spiciness, or any discernible flavor. The saving grace of this dish was at least a generous serving of crab. Perch A failed attempt at a dish. The assembly of the garnishments was confusing, leading to a messy plate where I had to dig around to sample the veggies. The jasmine rice was fine, but I think a brown rice would've served better. Everything was underseasoned. Stir Fry This was good in the way a frozen meal is good. Salty, meaty, but not much else. I would dislike this more if it weren't fairly priced. read more

Was in uxbridge and wanted to try out this restaurant. We put in our order of peameal Benny, skillet and kids chocolate chunk pancakes. Waited over 30 minutes for our order and noticed people that sat down got their food before us. Asked the waitress when our food is arriving and they went to check and said shortly. I believe the waitress did not put in our order, she got the order wrong because out came the mushroom Benny. I didn't say anything because I didn't want to wait longer for our food and the boys were hungry. The food was tasty, but the service was lacking, took a long time for the waitress to notice we needed our water refilled and for her to get the POS to pay. Tipped accordingly based on the lack of service and will not be back. If they knew that our order was this late, they should've at least apologized or gave a discount. Location: In uxbridge. I'd never really been to Uxbridge before so I only described the location as being downtown, I think? I used GPS to find it. Parking: There is a parking lot dedicated to the restaurant. I heard that it can be quite busy so I'm not sure if the parking lot is big enough but I went on a weekday lunch and there was plenty of space. Also it's on a busy street so if you're turning left into the lot it might take a bit of time to do that Decor: The restaurants really nice. It's smaller than I thought it would be from the reviews I can see why it gets busy. They had a very large patio, and when I went there was still patio seating weather so there were some people outside. There's a lot of two and four top tables. At the back there's kind of like a bench with tall tables and then tall chairs and you could fit a group of people. There had been a group of men there when we were there regulars that looked like that was their place to sit. The chairs were comfortable the tables not too high the decor was nice clean lines. It's obviously a really nice place! The Food: The menu isn't really big. And they have a posted online so you can check it out beforehand. I had initially wanted to get a salad but my friend got a steak and I couldn't resist so I also got a steak. But the men at the table in the back all got salads and let me tell you I've never had salad envy before but I did when I saw the salads coming out. That being said the steak was terrific in the fries with them were so good. I would really be torn as to what to get next time I go. Sounds really did look good though nice and fresh and bright and colorful. The staff: Our server was so nice. I of course spilled water all over everything and I know it wasn't something like wine that makes a mess but she was pretty cool about it moved us to another table, she was the only one working inside that day, and was terrific! Conclusion: It wasn't really busy. Oh that was another thing I wanted to talk about - the reviews keep saying he'll slammed it is. I think only really during brunch maybe because weekday lunch it was nice. It would actually be a nice place to go to catch up with somebody. And that's what I did! I'll definitely be back. I was reading online reviews first before I picked this place for a Sunday brunch with family. We've made reservations online which is easily done and we chose to sit inside which is cool and comfortable. One star is lost because of the wait time for our food. Which took 50 mins, the server only came around after 30 mins of ordering to ask how we are doing, and just then she said she helped us rush our order. The food portion is quite nice and everything is made fresh. We upgrade the side from home fries to Organic greens which they are very fresh. I would recommend this restaurant to others, but keep in mind about their long wait time. read more

Made an 1130AM reservation on Open Table for Friday lunch, just before Mothers Day. Two tables were filled at1130AM, but by noon it was mostly full. Service was excellent and the food was too. I don't think that there was a bad choice on the menu. At our table we all had sandwiches - one braised beef, one deli burger and two bison burgers. We appreciated that they advised the bison was normally cooked about medium in case we wanted that adjusted. I meant to ask for a side salad but got distracted which was fine because I think the fries were fresh cut and they were very delicious. They were good with allergies and offered substitutions like gluten free buns. They also had a vegan dessert choice (dark chocolate bar) that sounded great. I like that they try to source local. This was just a really nice treat lunch. If we lived closer then I know that I would be lured back often, especially for what sounds like amazing Sunday Brunch. read more

We had wanted to try Urban Pantry for a while and my husband and I drove in from Toronto to meet family there for a 5pm dinner reservation. Our first impression was it was difficult to speak to each other across the table it was so loud. The food was quite pricy and just ok and when I made the reservation, I was not made aware of a 2hr window. We arrived at 5pm and at 6:40pm we were told by a member of staff, there were people waiting for our table. What if we had ordered dessert... were we to take it with us as we were shuffled out. You can imagine how that went down with 4 people having just spent a decent amount on food and drinks and just chatting, having someone tell us we had to leave. It was actually rude, especially when we had 20 more minutes left on the metre. Also, a table of 4 woman next to us, who had been there longer, were not told they had to leave. Was tired of the usual suspects, so decided to drive up to Uxbridge to checkout this place as it seemed highly recommended by fellow yelpers. Decor 5/5 The place is quite swanky. They do serve lunch and dinner as well, so it had a very modern clean vibe to it. Service 4/5 Our server was nice, but she started off with a bit of an attitude ( not sure why) but she got better as time went on. Food 5/5 Excellent. Farm fresh eggs, everything was quality. Urban Pantry Restaurant is a perfect lunch/dinner spot in Uxbridge. I will suggest making a reservation as the place was packed even on a weekday for lunch!! I guess "country' life is way more relaxing and everyone really takes their time. If you are in a rush, it is not a good place as service can be a tad slow. We arrived when the restaurant opens and thus beat the rush. Patio still opens for late fall but we opted to sit in the main dining room. Menu is seasonal and great if you want to eat some healthy food prepared with local fresh ingredients. First off, food was tasty and I love supporting local. So why 3 stars? The food was way too salty and strong flavoured. The kids meal fries had tons of black pepper and cheese on it making it super salty and peppery even for me let alone my one year old. The grilled cheese was delicious but super oily it took 3 napkins to hold and still seeped through. Then the duck pasta was great but so salty I could only eat a bit. Map Yve they need to ton down the salt and cheese. I needed to wash it off with a lot of water. Don't know if it's a one off situation but really wished I could have enjoyed it better. read more

Portions are decent the food is fresh and well prepared. My friends and I visited Urban Pantry after going to a farm in the area to pick pumpkins. They ordered salads and a pasta dish. I went for the soba noodles (pictured). We went at around 3pm and our party of 5 was seated right away. The food tasted healthy and fresh and while the waitress was not super enthusiastic the service was all right. The restaurant seemed clean and well maintained, and the menu was unique and not cookie cutter. The foo was not overly flavourful but it was yummy. Amazing spot. This is my best friends favorite restaurant and she and her husband brought me there today. Apperantly their breakfast is to die for. However today is Good Friday and breakfast is only served on weekends (and only until 12). We showed up at 11:30 (when it opens) for lunch. Got a seat at a high table at the back. Usually I find high tables uncomfortable but this one wasn't at all. We shared the charcuterie board with the cheese and OMG amazing. Totally worth every penny. So many special unique items. Pork belly, cured lard, stewed peaches, beets... literally everything you could ask for. My friends both got the special which was fish and chips. It smelled great and neither left even a crumb on their plate. I got the corn, jalapeño, potato, ham soup and a veggie sandwhich. I loved the soup and the bread my sandwhich was on. It could have used some goat cheese or a nice tangy flavour but it was very different from other veggie sandwhiches I've had. It was roasted (not pan fried) and had cauliflower, beets, artichokes, brussel sprouts, an avocado mousse and a yogurt spread on it. My friend got local beers. Second wedge brewery is around the corner and I tried the blonde ale. It was delishious. I also got an African blosson tea (I think it was called that).. it was very nice. I highly suggest a visit to the bathroom. The hand Cream is locally made and amazing. Definitely a new favorite spot. Tried this restaurant for the first, and probably the last time yesterday for lunch. Cutting to the chase: The Good: - Was great soaking up the sunshine on the spacious patio - Food was delicious. Our group of three had pickerel, a pasta and a stir fry - Parking is easy, they have a big lot themselves, which was full, but no issue as there's a large lot across the street - I had left my purse there, and one of the friendlier staff came after us to hand it to me The Bad: - The service by our actual server was what really tainted our experience. From the very first interaction, he appeared to have a very arrogant manner already. My husband & I were meeting up with his visiting nephew, whom we haven't seen in years, so we were spending some time catching up, and the server acted very impatiently when he came over just a couple of times to see if we were ready to order. When we asked if he could recommend something, he sarcastically replied that he couldn't do that, as it would mean he would have to go through all the items on the menu (of which there were probably 10 items total). So, absolutely no suggestions given.... Any time we had a question, (of which there were only a few) he replied coldly and rudely. When asked if they had any veg sandwiches, "No". When asked if they could modify any of the menu options "No". I only later realized they had a stir fry vegetarian option, he could have suggested that. I realize my review could sound petty just based on what I can describe in words, however in life, it's all about the "how" things are done. Not sure if this guy was just having a bad day, or he just gets a kick out of being rude. It's a great spot for all season. They have an outdoor dining area and an upstairs dining area. Their sweet display is tempting: we can speak about their butter tarts - they are awesome. We can speak about their donuts- if you can get there early enough, they are awesome. We have dined their for lunch mostly and can comment on their lasagna, pastrami sandwich, their salads and soups. I dare to try other items but I end up wanting their salad and soups again and again. It's that fresh and homey. I can't make these salads or soups like these! We had a 10 min wait to be seated and then from the time we ordered it was an hour and 20min before we got our food. we ordered two eggs Benedict avocado and it was just average the banana pancakes were a 4 out of 5 . They seemed completely overwhelmed and understaffed . you think after waiting over 30 min they would have brought around some focaccia bread or something to snack on as we were absolutely starving . Met a friend here for lunch, he is a regular and it's one of his favorite places to go. Service was pleasant and prompt, part of this may have to do with my friend's regularity here. We started off with some beer, which was one of the reasons we were coming here. There's a great beer selection, including a featured set of beers by Beau's All Natural. They've got rotating taps by this brewery on a regular basis, and I decided to go with a tasting flight. I really appreciated how these came with detailed notes on the style, that was a nice touch. I went with a grilled cheese and tomato sandwich and took the opportunity to poutine up my fries, because being a silly American I'll never pass up gravy and cheese along with my fries. They do their poutine with a mushroom gravy, which was okay, but Lee was not really a fan of, and here's his particular comments about it: "It was less a proper gravy and more like peppery sludge. The whole dish needed salt badly. The curds were okay, but the whole thing was too dry, and oddly unpoutinelike. I suppose it was someone's haute cuisine vision of poutine, but it somehow fumbled the stuff that makes poutine fun to eat." The sandwiches were excellent though. and definitely made up for the lackluster poutine. Mine tasted like a grilled cheese with tomato soup infused into it, wherever they're managing to get good sweet tomatoes in the middle of winter is a mystery, but I really enjoyed it. Lee had a reuben and he was very happy with it. Our friend had the beet salad, and it looked pretty darn tasty. So all in all, I'd give this place 4 stars, and Lee concurs. Was staying locally at a treehouse for a little getaway and saw this place on Yelp. We were looking for breakfast but not actually a small town greasy spoon (this time). You will not find eggs and bacon here for $6... but you will find a delicious breakfast served by smiling staff in a happy atmosphere. The ambiance is nice but it is not a large venue. I'm guessing calling ahead is a must many days. We were lucky and seemed to have gotten the last table at the right time. They have an orange butter that is served with the pancakes... it's delicious. I picked up a couple of butter tarts as they looked good but I haven't eaten them yet... I was very full when I left. There are plenty of places to eat in the area but if you're looking for classy but casual, this is the place. The lot is small but there is plenty of free parking in the parking lot across the street and on the street. There is a patio to enjoy in the summer and large windows line one wall for ample lighting when you're forced to stay inside. The special today was a burger made with locally raised bison topped with goat cheese and red pepper jelly. I ordered a side of Cajun fries and the house sauce. The burger was cooked to medium which is how I like mine. As it is, it tastes lovely but dip in the sauce and hold onto your hat. After the burger, I topped off my meal with the cookies n cream brownie: a slice of brownie with cookies n cream ice cream and sprinkled with Oreos. Soooo goooood. Visiting my friend in Whitby and we took a ride out to Uxbridge for lunch. He recommended this place based on prior visits. He ordered his usual Reuben sandwich and frites and i ordered the souvlaki sandwich with mixed green salad. The service was friendly and the decor was modern and clean and welcoming. It is a small place with patio seating that would be fantastic on a warm summer day. The souvlaki sandwich was a non-conventional and really tasty fresh juicy chicken breast marinated in an herb pesto of sorts grilled and served on a lightly toasted pita with greens and dressing. It beats any traditional chicken souvlaki sandwich hands down! The side salad was a beautiful fresh salad with lots of colour from orange and yellow grape tomatoes, thin slices of yellow carrots and a light dressing. My dining parter devoured his reuben as it was equally delish. I wish I lived closer so I could come here every week. The write-up in the menu states, "spicy maple sauce", which I could barely taste. There was a slight sweetness, but no spice-factor. The slice of toasted French bread was burnt on the crust and was already slightly soggy when served. I did have a latte, which was good. My husband had the Huevos Benedictinos and said his tasted mostly like onions and was served on tortilla chips rather than corn tortilla (which is what the menu stated). After nearly a dozen visits to Urban Pantry it's time to share. We have never been disappointed with the food and you haven't tastes fries until you have the Cajun Frites. They are also available less-dressed as Golden Frites, or more spiced as all-dressed. We've had them all and settled on Cajun as our favourite. Oh, and you can also order Greek fries for something different. Mains cover a lot of territory. The proteins include a few steaks; on one occasion I ordered the striploin and asked for it rare. It was delivered closer to medium or medium rare, but was nonetheless juicy and flavourful. Chefs in most placesalways seem to be afraid to deliver rare temperatures, but I am reluctant to order a steak blue just to get it rare. The BC rockfish entree was delicious, if a little dry. The seafood paella was hit and miss, sometimes bland and dry and other times spot on. In the starters, we found the mussels and clams to be a good bet and have repeated the order in a number of visits, never to be disappointed. And don't forget the Cajun Frites - we order them as soon as we sit down. Those who may have seen my review of The Second Wedge Brewing Co will not be surprised to know that one of the attractions at Urban Pantry is their pouring of Second Wedge beer. It goes famously with the frites and the rest of the menu. Second Wedge reciprocates by offering a limited selection of the Urban Pantry menu for delivery to the tasting room. We've done that and it is fast, convenient and delicious. The Urban Pantry is definitely worth a visit, but be prepared for some sticker shock. Prices are what you would expect to pay in the better restaurants in the entertainment district in Toronto. Regardless, we return frequently for some of the best food in town. read more

Well, I have lived in Uxbridge for the past six years and have gone to the pantry many times. What I can tell you is that over the last two years, the food quality and service have ever slowly deteriorated. Our last and final pantry dinner happened last week, we took another couple and their kids (first timers) and we told them how good it would be. Service: one star out of five. Dirty dishes were never cleared. Asked for the bill, it didn't show up. I asked a second time and still no bill........started to complain and then it arrived. Things could have been placated slightly with a round of drinks but our glasses went dry for more than 30 minutes. Food: 3 starts out of five. Mussels for one guest showed up late and ice cold. They did fire another one for us but that came five minutes after the whole table was finished with their meal. Short ribs; over cooked and dry. Kimchi fries were excellent. Kale salad was well....a kale salad, nothing exciting here. Never order a kale salad anywhere. The place was not that busy but the kitchen was swamped with orders from the Second Wedge Brewery around the corner. It looked like nona was breaking a sweat as she ferried food back and forth. Could not help but think that food quality was impacted by the Wedges customers demand on the kitchen. Normally would not be critical of a small town resto but when you are charging $25 - $38 dollars for mains then you need to up step up your game. read more

Very cozy, child friendly (and thanks again for your patience with our two happy-curious-no very quiet little kids). I went there with my son, friends, and their little kid. We ordered a few dishes that looked great, and were very tasty. The experience was unique, delicious, and surprising in the sense of "hmmm, I don't know this combination of spices, but it tastes oh so good". The waiters were very friendly.
