Our guide and instructor took our small group into places I never would have imagined inside the Preserve. While I was expecting to have a little bit of our time focused on the educational aspects of post-production, it turned out that we were split our time about 50-50 between editing and going out into the field and taking photos which was perfect for me. The small class size provided ample one-on-one mentoring with a certified instructor who was able to teach us many of the best-practices on image handling and post processing. Not only did I come back with some great images to send to the print shop and share with my family and friends on social media, but I returned with new editing skills and a fresh workflow combining LightRoom with Photoshop. Simply put it was an amazing trip, I learned more in 5 days than I had in the last year of taking classes and weekend workshops. The whole experience was customized to the needs of the group, starting with the phone calls before the trip to discuss what I wanted to accomplish, through adjusting the schedule while we were in the Preserve, and the follow-up calls afterwords. Small group size, 1 on 1 mentoring, trip tailored to the individual needs and desires of our group, instructor knew the area extremely well including knowing what time of day to be where to capture the right light on the scenes. Still riding the photo high from a trip that ended a month ago. Can't wait to attend my next expedition, probably one of the Utah trips whether it's Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, or Grand Staircase-Escalante. And I'm definitely going back to the Mojave National Preserve.

In class we do everything from Chekhov to Miller to Mamet to Pinter, classic to contemporary text. I have seen some of the finest acting in my life, at the level of Emmy winners I've worked across. To Stephanie's credit, the students are extremely dedicated. She expects them to have prepared, but also gives space at the studio to rehearse. She really deconstructs the technique she's learned, which has deep roots in Strasberg. There is an emphasis on relaxation and sensory work, which she teaches in the mornings, followed by scene study in the evening. Again, very rare to get training in movement , voice and sensory on top of a scene study class. I feel this foundational stuff is the 'wax on wax off" part of becoming a black belt. I have a hard time leaving because my work improves tenfold after each 6-week session. I have opened my heart immensely since joining. My imagination has soared through the roof. Again, I say this is a very rare class. I fantasize that this was the way Old Hollywood trained. A very unique experience that I've never seen taught anywhere else. The longer I stay , the better my audition and film/theater work get. You have to try at least once in your life.

While most classes are formatted in a way that doesn't foster deep thorough character and story work, the environment and format of SFS not only supports that, but demands it. Most classes you learn a specific technique and then work, rehearse and perform in what feels and acts like an audition environment. At the SFS, it is treated much like a theatre group, with a stage, full prop room, rehearsal time on stage. When you put your scene up for critique, you are putting it up as though it were a full production, that you, the actor, are responsible for - the acting, directing, wardrobe, set design, etc. It has made me a more well rounded, thorough actor in my work and makes auditions seem like a walk in the park. I also think it allows me to bring more to an audition because my day to day practice is so full. I think the most amazing thing about Steph is her intuition and ability to somehow understand and/or see through a particular actor's blocks and issues that may be getting in the way of not only their acting but their career and/or life. I'm pretty sure if I hadn't come here, I'd still be the angry scared girl in the black hoodie and hat sitting in the corner with a "fuck you lookin at?!?" look on my face ... that doesn't really go with this career choice. ;-) The studio is an incredible, supportive and creative environment, producing shows ranging from traditional plays to interactive plays (think, NY's Sleep No More) music nights and writer nights. It's also a theatre non-SFSers can rent for their productions, which as a student I love, because I get to hear about shows I might not otherwise find out about.

She is such a patient, fun, and loving coach…read more Because of a medical condition, my daughter had never put her head under water -- not even during bath time -- for the past five and a half years. We finally had her tracheostomy closed this February, and in March, I signed her up for swim lessons at Waterwings. My daughter has always loved playing in the water but was terrified to put her head in. Ms. Evelyn made every class fun, safe, and full of encouragement. She took her time to help Jade feel comfortable and slowly built such a trusting relationship with her. Thanks to Ms. Evelyn's patience and creative teaching, Jade has become so confident in the water! She absolutely loves her swim lessons and even wishes she could go every day. Now, Jade takes private lessons three times a week with Ms. Evelyn, and her swimming skills have improved so much -- it's amazing to see how far she's come! I truly can't thank Ms. Evelyn enough for everything she's done for Jade. We're so grateful for Waterwings and all the wonderful coaches there. My son also took lessons here with Coach Cole and now swims with the SD Aquatics swim team. We love Waterwings and highly recommend it to anyone looking for caring, experienced, and fun swim instructors! ‍

The cheapest bottle is $10.00 & the most cost $35.00. It also comes with 4 cheese. It was fun! Informative! I wish there was MORE WINE, but overall a great experience! ;) I don't usually drink wine from Eurpope. So this was a great experience! .

An "Advanced Darkroom" class was just about to start; however, I had pretty much no experience with…read morefilm photography or darkroom processes. Andrew Hall, the owner, and operator of The School of Light offered to teach me one-on-one during a weekend workshop to make sure I was fully prepared and confident for the advanced darkroom class. In a weekend, my world changed. I learned the art and mechanics of film photography, sharpened my perspectives for light and shadow, processed my own film, and developed my own prints. Nothing is quite as exciting as watching your photograph come to life, or as empowering as knowing you have full creative control in the darkroom. Low and behold, I was fully equipped for the advanced class - which was nothing short of magnificent. Andrew is incredibly friendly, passionate, patient, engaging, inspiring, a true artist with a wealth of expertise, and an exceptional instructor for your journey into the darkroom. I've since taken numerous classes at SoL and continue to expand my creativity into exotic and uncharted realms. The people who attend Andrew's workshops are just as friendly and likeminded as you. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all classes are now being held online (the classes must go on!). Most, if not all of the content Doc Manny teaches is easy to comprehend, whether you have a medical background or not. Classes are year-round so you can start when you want, but they move at your own pace. It's not formatted like traditional schools, where they start in the fall and end in the spring; Doc is able to teach in a way that progresses each student no matter where they are or when they started. Depending on how quick you learn, you may finish earlier than others, even if you both started at the same time. This also includes taking/passing the AHIMA test (I finished mine & got my certification in 4 months! Thanks to my classmates too for all your help & encouragement). If for some reason you're unable to grasp what's being taught, Doc Manny will repeat it over and over again until it clicks. For incoming students, the whole process can be overwhelming and a bit challenging at times, but once you find your footing and get a feel for things, you'll be right on track. Dr. Manny Santiago has been teaching medical coding for 20+ years and he really illustrates the experience through his passion for the job. He is very knowledgeable, professional, caring, patient, supportive, approachable, and most of all, very accommodating to his student's needs. He is always ready to answer any of your questions. Joseph and the other Oscar has help me on Sobriety. I've only experienced this other Oscar and he was so disrespectful to the class like he's better than everyone. Only our lord and savior is better than us. Anna takes care of me on a professional level on my admission level of here and is really truly on where in need to be but this other Oscar guy needs to be more proactive on his approach.
