Figar's decorative wall... what's not to love?
    Petra T.

At first, I thought that my love for Vinz Feel Free made me like this place so much but it is more than that (though, I do appreciate the grand art on the wall). It is quaint but still big enough for you to enjoy. The food is excellent, the staff is hip and friendly and it is definitely a nice place to meet up with a friend and have a drink and chat. It feels homey, that's what it is. They even do breakfast (I recommend making a reservation because last time I tried getting a table they were fully booked), which I've heard is great (yet to find out). The only down side to this place is that it turns into a "smoking allowed" establishment starting at 5PM, which in my opinion sucks given the size of it. Granted, they do have a good ventilation system but let me ask this.... Is it really necessary to feed the evil in today's society? Can't we just all not smoke (inside) and get along?

Cute Local Breakfast Spot Up to EUR 9,5 per Breakfast Entree Accepts all major credit cards Sunday Breakfast No wait, but reservations highly recommended We had just arrived earlier in the morning so we were able to visit this place almost immediately at open. The interior is a bit hip, with red brick, exposed ceiling vents and some interesting artwork on the walls (the naked women with bird heads was confusing, but maybe I just don't get it). The format of the menu was also a bit confusing as it was a mix of German and English words (I think). The food however, was easy enough to understand yet well done enough to warrant a special mention. I ordered the Working Class Hero and my wife ordered something unpronounceable but equally delicious. On the face of it, my meal was relatively simple: composed of bread, a fried egg, a kebab of sausage and veggies on a bed of beans with a bit of spinach on the side. We opted to sit indoors as it was a bit cool today (there was a brave couple which opted to sit in the limited outdoor seating). I would highly recommend reservations as almost every table had a slip denoting that it was reserved for a later party to arrive at 11 am. The restaurant was pretty full at open (9am on a Sunday).

I went for brunch and got their eggs with avocado and cottage cheese, which was delicious. I also shared a bowl of müsli with my brother, which was also yummy. It's a great place for breakfast/brunch with a wide range of breakfast foods. The cafe is small and pretty cute with a somewhat rustic/industrial vibe. If you are planning to come in the morning on a weekend, be sure to call and reserve a table beforehand. It's usually quite packed with the usual hipsters you find in the 7th district. Service was average and it's a little bit pricey but if you live around the 7th district and are looking for a nice breakfast place, definitely try it out!

French toast and porridge. Tasted great.

Really great spot and the server was super friendly too. Best French toast I've had till date and I've eaten quite a fair share of those in my life.

Had breakfast here on a chilly morning in their outdoor seating area. The cappuccino was quite good. I ordered the eggs Benedict and it was a bit "fancier" than I've tried before. The French toast portion was a bit small for a stand-alone breakfast item. I do not think I would stop in again, but I think it may be better for late night.

    Really good omlette

Excellent breakfast, nice patio, price is right. Only thing against the place is the the smoking inside. Can't imagine going there in the winter, unless I wanted to smell like an ashtray.

One of the best breakfasts I have eaten. Omelette with bacon, tomato, feta, and spinach. Paired with a fresh cup of orange juice which was nothing short of sublime. The delicious food was matched with a refreshing ambience and terrific service. Must go if in Vienna!

The breakfast burger with bacon! So. Good.

Figar is a wonderful place in the 7th district. I have been to Figar twice now. It is casual and trendy and reminds me of a few small cafes I have been to in Austin, TX. Both times the staff has been extremely sweet and patient with me, because I speak very poor german, and the food has been delicious. THEY HAVE REAL BACON HERE (which is extremely rare to find in Vienna). I love the small and cozy atmosphere. They serve breakfast until around 4pm which I adore because I could eat breakfast for every meal. They accept both cash and credit cards.

Great hipster cafe. Food is absolutely delicious and the quality really shows in the taste and presentation. Coffee was also good but could be a little warmer. The place is a little noisy due to the crowd and echo but still nice and comfortable. The service is friendly and efficient!

We waited in the takeout line for about 15 minutes and ate the best Kaiserschmarrn ever! Something I didn't even know existed until visiting Vienna. Highly recommend checking out this spot!

I visited Demel Vienna on August 19 during breakfast. I have always loved Demel from my previous…read morevisits, and I know it is a world-renowned and historic establishment, which is why this experience was especially disappointing. I ordered my usual Kaiserschmarrn and a drink. I had noticed that the table next to me had a drink that looked good, so when the waitress took my order, I specifically told her that I wanted the same drink the table next to me was having. When my order arrived, it was brought by a different waitress. The drink looked completely different from what I had pointed to, so I asked her what it was. She told me it was a double espresso. I explained that I had not ordered a double espresso and again pointed to the drink at the table next to me, which was clearly a hot chocolate. The waitress then called over the waitress who had originally taken my order. Instead of simply acknowledging that there had been a misunderstanding, she insisted, "That's what you ordered." When I explained again that it wasn't, she told me, "It's the same thing." A **double espresso and a hot chocolate are obviously not the same thing.** What bothered me even more than the incorrect order was the way both waitresses spoke to me. Their attitudes and tone were extremely rude, dismissive, and demeaning--as though I was stupid for pointing out the obvious mistake. The interaction became uncomfortable enough that people sitting at other tables were looking over at us. To make matters worse, my Kaiserschmarrn was **cold**. It tasted as though it had already been sitting out for some time before it was brought to my table. I understand that mistakes happen. Had they simply apologized for the misunderstanding and corrected the drink, I would not have had an issue. Instead, I was argued with and spoken down to over something that could have been resolved in seconds. This was genuinely one of the worst customer-service experiences I have ever had at a restaurant, and certainly not what I expected from an establishment with Demel's reputation. After several previous visits that I enjoyed, it is extremely disappointing to say that I will not return and will no longer recommend Demel to my friends.

Loved the decor, made me feel like we were transported back in time. Our waiter came, dressed in his formal clothing despite the heat outside, and took our order. For me, an espresso, for my wife, a chocolate cake and water. My coffee was delivered on a neat little tray with a glass of water to go along with it. The waiter then pretty much left us alone as we took our time eating and drinking. Pricewise, the cafe seemed similar to other coffee shops we had visited during our trip. So why not more stars? Largely because the food being offered isn't vegan friendly. Maybe that is due to tradition, fine I understand that if that's the case, but I've heard that there are other traditional cafes in Vienna that do have vegan options. Just give me one. That's all I'm asking.
