Fried Pickle Chips
Robert C.

We have passed this place many times on our visit to North Myrtle Beach and decided to try it for Happy Hour. Glad we did because we found it to be much better than the reviews may indicate. The restaurant is located right on the intercoastal waterway with 3 areas, the indoor bar and restaurant, the covered deck bar and tables which has heat and clear windows for the winter, and finally an outside deck with tables and umbrellas that directly overlook the intercoastal waterway. The service is good, not great and is not meant as a negative. The HH menu has a great variety compared to some of the others we regularly visit which gives you more choice especially if visiting on multiple occasions. The drink prices are fantastic! also with a good selection. We had the fried pickle chips, fried calamari and black and blue beef tips. The beef tips were absolutely fantastic and we have been there twice now and we have reordered these both times. The pickles were OK and the calamari was also good. Overall we were very pleased and met our expectations for a Happy Hour stop.

One of our favorite spots in the Myrtle Beach area and look forward to visiting a few times while we're there. They have a great outdoor area right on the water and can't beat the happy hour. Food is always wonderful and service is always quick and friendly.

Filets has a very nice waterfront view and the staff was very nice, but overall we were a bit disappointed by our dinner here. It took a really long time for our food to come out, with half of us receiving our mains about 20 minutes before the other half. The steak tips were pretty dry, and the sushi was fine quality, but the spicy tuna roll was just a tuna roll with hot sauce on top? I'd maybe come back for happy hour with a waterfront view, but the food left a lot to be desired.

Best Happy Hour we've been to this week! There are two bars and we sat inside not realizing there is a tiki bar outside and by the time we figured it out, there were no seats left. We watched the US Open while enjoying appetizers. I got fried green tomatoes served with a jalapeño jam and goat cheese yum!. My husband ordered fish bites and got them fried instead of blackened as recommended by the bartender. Smart choice! We were still hungry and got black and bleu steak bites - soooo good! Happy hour is 4-6 and drink prices are great! I highly recommend!!

Wanted to eat dinner on the waterfront in North Myrtle Beach and tried this place out. Came during Happy Hour on a random Wednesday night. Loved the atmosphere. Was a lively loud place. Ate outside by the bar. It was enclosed and nice and warm on a windy night. Server was awesome and attentive. They had Old Fashion's with Maker's for $5.25. Great deal. Had the Wedge Salad which was awesome. Crab Cakes were awesome. Sweet Chili Salmon was awesome. The mini Lobster tail was awesome. The only reason I give this place a 4 star review vs. a 5 star review is my son ordered the filet medium and it came out well done. It was way overcooked. We did not send it back to be fair but for a place that names itself Filet's you would have expected the filet to come out better. Would go back because everything was great outside of the overcooked steak.

The ambiance is the best thing about this place. On the water but near a drawbridge that rings and opened twice in one hour for no apparent reason. The water in this causeway is very dirty and not from just sediment. The outside seating is filthy and dilapidated. I asked the waitress to please wipe down the tables and I barely received an acknowledgment. When she returned, she gave about a 10% effort with a dirty rag. I asked about several menu items and she said she didn't eat seafood but she sold a lot of this and the other. My wife had the salmon salad. I could've gotten a getter piece in the frozen section of the grocery store. Our friends ordered crab cakes and fried green tomatoes. Again, frozen would've been better. The prices are outrageous for the quality. Service was poor. I had the sushi. Yes, decided to take a chance. Not that bad, but not fresh as the rice was too firm, like you'd get from a grocery store, that's been sitting in the cooler. Will not go back. Cannot believe that our friends friend suggested this place. I should've paid attention to the poor yelp reviews! We went since we couldn't get into Oyster Rock. Next time we'll wait!!!

Grouper Piccata

Stopped in on a Friday night with no wait. Walked in and when we said we wanted to sit outside - were told to "find a seat." We ended up sitting at the outside bar .. nice breeze and great music. The inside has a bad smell to it ... very musty. Not sure how anyone can eat indoors here. Started with the coconut shrimp. Was delicious ... asked for a side of sauce for dipping which made it amazing. My husband and I ordered the grouper (blackened) piccata and it was really good! I would have preferred more of the lemon/piccads sauce on the pasta. I thought it was a bit bland, but the grouper was great. Friend ordered the breaded chicken salad and the serving of chicken was very generous. Was a bit odd bc it was one big piece of butterflied chicken breast, but the breading was delicious. Bartender service was hit ir miss ... hard to get their attention for a refill on drinks. Overall good experience- we would return!

While the pricing at 21 Main may be comparable to that of a fine dining restaurant in New York City, it is important to consider that it is one of the few establishments in Myrtle Beach that offers such an experience. This distinction helps to mitigate the high cost. We began our meal with a shared tuna tower, which was of excellent quality. It was evident that the fish used was sushi grade, fresh, and delectable. We also shared a side of broccolini, which was enjoyable but not exceptional. I opted for the Chilean sea bass, which is consistently excellent. Although I am not a fan of Beurre blanc, I was offered compounded garlic butter as an alternative. However, upon reviewing the bill, we discovered an unexpected upcharge. In my opinion, 21 Main should reconsider this practice, especially considering that the ingredients are not significantly different. My husband had the NY strip steak, which was satisfactory, but it was not served at the requested medium-rare temperature. Instead, it was closer to medium. A steakhouse, particularly of this caliber, should not make such an error. The meal concluded with an espresso, which was excellent and served piping hot. Despite the occasional shortcomings, 21 Main remains a favorite dining destination. I hope that the owners will take the time to read this review and consider the feedback provided.

The decor was nice, the salad bar had a good variety of fresh options, and our service was excellent. Those were the highlights of our visit. Unfortunately, the food was very inconsistent. I ordered the filet mignon cooked medium rare, but it came out closer to rare and was barely cooked. It was also surprisingly chewy and lacked any real flavor. Considering a filet mignon is one of the highest-quality cuts of beef, this was honestly the worst filet I've ever had. The hamburger was also very bland and didn't have much flavor. On the positive side, the grilled chicken and shrimp were both delicious, and we really enjoyed the salad bar. Overall, I wouldn't return for the steak or burgers, but if you're interested in the salad bar, chicken, or shrimp, those were much better choices.

Based on my brother-in-law's recommendation, we decided to try this place instead, and I'm glad we did. From the start, the experience stood out. The food quality was excellent, and the portions were surprisingly generous--something you don't often find at Italian restaurants. They also offer complimentary bread with a choice of soup or salad, which is becoming increasingly rare. Even more impressive, these weren't afterthoughts. The bread was perfectly crusty and served with a flavorful olive oil infused with tomato and garlic. Both the salad and chicken soup were fresh and well-prepared. Everyone at the table enjoyed their meals. I had the chicken Sorrento with prosciutto and mushrooms over pasta, and it was outstanding--well-balanced, flavorful, and cooked just right. The restaurant itself is clean and nicely designed, creating a comfortable atmosphere without feeling overly formal. Service was quick, and our waitress was friendly and attentive throughout. I don't often give five-star reviews, but this place truly earned it. It delivers on both quality and value, which is a combination that's hard to find.

We came on a Saturday night, shorty before close, so we were able to get two seats at the bar. Our bartender was extremely attentive throughout our visit. Complementary bread is provided. Comes with a nice oil and garlic blend. Ordered the Bucatini Puttanesca & Spaghetti with Italian Sausage. These come with a dinner salad or up grade to a Caesar for $2 more (which I did). Both salads were fresh and delicious. I will say one of the best caesar dressings I've had. The pasta, presentation was lovely. The flavors bland, tomato sauce (tastes straight from the can) had no additional spices present and the pasta way over cooked. Seems their noodles are pre-cooked and Al Dente then is just not possible. This is another reason why the rating was just below average. Really disappointing. Would not be a place we would revisit.

I figured he will like the old clubby atmosphere of Thoroughbreds plus they have great wine and an excellent burger. We got there a few minutes before 4:30 and waited in the car until they opened up. Now I haven't been here in a few years, but it looked exactly the same... bar to the left as you come in, with multiple dining rooms scattered throughout, some with a fireplace some without, all of it projecting private club with a southern flair. It's decorated well. We sidled up to the bar, where we were the first two patrons there and sat at the end. The bartender was attentive and quickly came over with menus and asking for a drink order. I ordered my father a nice glass of Pinot Noir and a seltzer water for myself and then quickly began reading the menu. Thoroughbreds has a happy hour menu that is served at the bar and a more extensive full menu served at the bar and in the dining rooms. I settled on the burger with fries for my father, with no cheese or other accoutrements that is always served on a pretzel bun. It comes with Gruyère cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion...that's the way I usually get it, but my father being 90 is set in his ways. I decided on an appetizer of escargot and the main course of elk chops cooked medium and served with broccolini and mashed potatoes. After a while(and another glass of wine for my father) the escargot came out with some hot bread and infused butter. The escargot was tender and flavorful with hints of garlic and parsley in a rich butter sauce. The bread was a good choice to dip into the plate. A few moments later, my father's burger came out, cooked to perfection with crispy shoestring fries that were moist and tasty in the middle. The happy hour version of the elk chops consisted of two. They were served crusted over the broccolini with a nice moundful of herb infused mashed potatoes. The elk chops were delicious and tender, and the broccolini and potatoes were seasoned to perfection. By the time we were done, the bar was full and people were having a great time eating and drinking. I looked over at my father and I could tell it was time to go so we headed out the door and drove back to our condo in North Myrtle Beach . Overall, I find Thoroughbreds an excellent upscale dining experience with friendly and professional waitstaff in a club like atmosphere that serves great steaks and chops.
