Started at the top and parked way down the street outside of the parking permit zone. I believe you can reserve parking ahead of time for a pass online. It's literally where mountains meet the ocean. Has great views of the ocean and the coast. We sat near some trees on a bench and relaxed. When arriving though, was shooketh to see a bunch of goats near the entrance but fenced off. It gave a great opportunity for a funny picture of the goats and the view. There's a map with more trails so I would recommend checking that out too! Would recommend to visit and give it a try!

However, I respect and truly admire that they added a cultural term to modern vocabulary: the Tardis Effect, which basically means that you enter a space and it is more spacious and complex than you can imagine based on what you believe it can hold based on exterior. Another example is Snoopy's Dog house. And as a final example, I offer a person's head. It does not seem like it holds a lot but it holds an ever expansive universe of thoughts, ideas and memories. This park can serve as another example of the Tardis Effect. It is a small park, like legit tiny, but when you look from its multiple view points you see the vastness of the pacific ocean and shore lines, which can induces so much within your head universe. Like one time I went and I imagined that a sea monster would rise from the waters far away. The sea monster was like Godzilla, except purple and its blast were white and froze people to death. Missiles could not quell its fury. I imagined that the solution would have to be mystical like when Perseus defeated the Kraken using Medusa's head. I repeat that the park is small by feet or metric cubes, or what ever unit of measure is used to measure a park's length, but when you enter you will see more than you expected, if you let yourself. I wonder what the opposite of the Tardis Effect is? What is something that is super big but when you step inside is actual small. Hopefully, a whale's belly cause I might end up there one day and wish to survive. If you are not one who embraces imaginative trips, this place offers something more grounded: beautiful views that are plainly gorgeous. When you allow yourself to sit and view, you want to take pictures, you want to have a date, you want to have a meaningful conversation, you want to meditate. It is a small gulp of fresh air that can be released into a big space. Logistically, parking is hard to come by. I am a local so I park on the street nearby and walk. I do not have a parking permit, I find street parking. The walk from the park to the car is not that long and depending on your fitness level it can be exhausting or a breeze. I went today to hike some of its neighboring trails. And the trails were closed. So expect this place to be a treat, if you are the type of person who can take the small of the earth and see the large of the earth.

There are multiple path options with stairs leading down into the canyon like lower parts of the area but I stayed up top on the winding narrow cliffside. There are a couple entrances-both easy to miss. Google Maps will lead you to the entrance to a subdivision which confused me cuz I didn't see any trail signs and missed the random opening on the side of someone's house. When I walked further down Creat though after parking in the residential subdivision, I saw an official trail entrance (pictures provided here). There's little to no shade along this wall and you'll likely be the only one there so if you don't like to feel deserted out in the middle of nowhere, you might want to bring a friend.

The good: The beginning of this trail didn't seem too…read morepromising, but it got better as we got to the top and entered Sol Y Mar Villas area where there were benches, a community garden, partly cement trail and a view of the ocean/beach, downtown LA and San Pedro. We were the only people on the trail. It is a small one mile or so trail that combines with Indian Peak Trail and has a 55+ living community in between. The bad: The ground was wet even though it hasn't rained in a long time so there was a good amount of mud. It's mostly all in the sun and not too shady. There were a lot of small gnats. Part of the trail led to a cement wall with graffiti with a parking lot on the other side. The interesting: I parked across the street by the movie theater, but there is a small parking lot at the bottom of the trail at the entrance that does not say private parking.

And that's what it says on the sign: "panoramic views of the City of Los Angeles to the north". Too bad I didn't get to see those views yesterday, Sunday! As I was heading up a trail, a young couple coming down warned me of slippery conditions & showed me mud on their shoes as proof. Said they almost fell. There'd been heavy morning fog earlier & the trails are packed mud....so be forewarned. I took the other trail at their suggestion & went just halfway to the top. This is not a big serious hike, but more of an uphill walk on a narrow trail. The loop is probably less than a mile thru the 14-acre space. Right now the terrain is thick with dried brush, but I'm guessing the hillside will be covered with invasive yet beautiful yellow mustard in spring...at which time I'll be back..with my walking stick. I'm told there are benches at the top where you can sit a spell & enjoy views of the LA Basin. Healthier than hiking around TJ Maxx in the plaza across the street & far easier on the wallet for sure. Heed the posted rules: no bicycles, no horses. But....goats...yep. In May 2019, goats were used to clear brush, under supervision of course. I must have watched them for an hour from the street below, so adorable & entertaining. This eco-friendly method of brush clearance is used throughout the area, much to the delight of both goat herds & onlookers. Reserve hours are 1 hour before sunrise to 1 hour after sunset. Parking: Two free street spaces in front of the reserve entrance sign on Indian Peak Road. Or park in the adjacent, small Norris Pavillion (next to the fire station) lot if nothing's going on there. Or use the free parking structure across the street in Promenade on the Peninsula shopping center. Or, as I did, park in the huge empty (for now) lot where OSH used to be, now vacant. There's very little traffic in this area & no metered parking anywhere (gotta love it & I do) so parking is never an issue. Bring your camera & wear appropriate shoes. The instructions to get there can look a bit complicated bc there's just so much info? but literally you can just find the meetup spot on Google Maps now if you look up 'Rowher Flat OHV'. Maybe bc it wasn't on there before, but the page gives you very detailed instructions, even a video to guide you how to get there. Past Santa Clarita and into the mountains! You'll eventually go off roading and fair warning, it is quite bumpy. Low profile vehicles aren't recommended, and you'll see why lol. I also brought my tesla model 3 here while everyone else I passed by was in a bigger SUV vehicle car. I wanted to be careful and drive slower on the road haha and luckily the road was not busy at all! After making it up to the meetup spot, it's definitely a very quiet and peaceful area. It's nice to experience away from the busy city life. We were on time to our tour, but we wanted to make it out earlier since there was some time needed for prep. Our tour guide, Sagi (?), was super chill and a cool guy! I had no ATV experience whatsoever but I am so thankful for having him to guide us haha. During the ATV ride, we did request a "beginner/easy" path, but the route he took us was actually pretty challenging lol but very fun! It was basically like an obstacle course, but good mix of flat, bumps, inclines/declines, roundabouts, and I feel like we got to experience it all within an hour! Weather was also perfect during the time we went as well, just wore long sleeves and a vest. An hour was more than enough for this experience. The tour guide even will make stops for you to take photos! Overall, experience was great and definitely would do this again to explore another area! Prepare for all your clothes to be dusty.

(I'm an adrenaline junkie; I've gone skydiving, love rollercoasters, kayaking, parasailing, scuba diving etc.) Other members in party's ATV experience: 2 members have gone on a 2 hour ATV ride in Mexico, 1 member in my party had no ATV experience but has rode motorcycles in the past. Occasion for trip/Cost: I bought 4 ATV rider tickets for a 1 hour session for my boyfriend's birthday. Total cost came out to: $476.00. Location: The mountain area in Santa Clarita. The directions are VERY clear in their email that they send. If you click on the link DIRECTLY SENT TO YOU in your email, you'll get there no problem if you use the Google Maps app. They have the link. They have a YouTube video showing you how to get there too. I didn't lose cell reception not once getting there. I took a CAMRY HYBRID to get there and there is a dirt road for quite some time before you get to the location where you park. Date went: 10/11/25 at 9:00am. Weather was PERFECT. It was 74F degrees. It was sunny, but cool. Did not need a jacket. Just wore a dark t shirt, jeans, and sneakers. Heads up: You won't have opportunities to take picture or videos of your own during the ride. The guide will take photos for you and send them to you via email during the ride. You will be asked if you want to buy insurance prior to the ride in case any damages happen. You have the option to decline. Make sure you sign the waivers prior to check in. *****You will have to bring IDs of the members going and the card used for payment for check in. Actual ride: I was instructed to ride right behind the instructor given that I had no prior ATV experience. Our guide, Jackson, was very friendly and considerate throughout the whole experience and informed the rest of the party that the speed of the ride would go based off me since I'm the beginner. Jackson consistently looked back at our party to make sure none of us were falling behind, had to stop once to fix another member from getting stuck at a turn, and we were going about 15mph the whole ride. It felt so nice outside! Considering that this was my first time riding, I don't feel like it was too hard to pick up and learn how to operate the ATV. I would NOT recommend this during the summertime. I think this experience would not be enjoyable in the slightest if it was hot given that you're already wearing a helmet and there's heat that comes from the ATV that you can feel near your calves. Your thumb will hurt a bit as you have to press it in consistently to make the ATV go. You can ask for a break if needed if your thumb gets tired. ***Important to note ***I did this ATV trip on the first day of my period and it was still enjoyable! Usually the first day of my period my body feels dreadful (headaches, nauseous, and backaches). I didn't have anything to eat prior to our ride and I felt nauseous right after I got off the ATV ride, but that's not the ATVs fault. Just recommend having a little bit of food at the very least before you go. Overall, I would rate it 4/5 stars. I feel like I was so focused on riding the ATV, following the guide, and making sure I was going at an enjoyable speed for the rest of my party that I didn't really get to take in the view and "enjoy the mountain" so to speak. We started off on smoother paths and then our guide took us on more challenging paths with turns and dirt bumpy roads. I think this is a great experience/activity to do when the weather is cool.

There was a restroom area close by the swings. The swings are pretty high up. The park area is surrounded by fences from the backyards of people's homes. The bad: There are dirt patches and sandy areas so be prepared to get dusty if you have little ones like I do. The interesting: The parking lot was full when I came on a Monday evening.

I often wonder how many back yards border riding trails.....it must be a lot. I figure you gotta like horses to even live in this area, because the odor of horse poop is common if not prevalent. I decided to explore Rockbluff Park the other day because I drive past it constantly. The parking lot off PV Dr N is unpaved, and the dust I stirred up while pulling in was not a good thing for my car that just left Highridge carwash, oh well. Any sacrifice for a park review.....haha.... But the dust on my clean car was not the only sacrifice I made in the course of my exploration of this small area. I did not realize that it, too, borders a bridle path. So ya got the poop smell in the park. P U! The grass was so thick it was like walking on a giant sponge as I climbed the hill to the kids' play area. That's some very healthy grass, I wonder what sets it apart from most parks. Maybe the manure from the riding trail somehow permeates the soil in the park, hmmmm..... So, at the top of the hill there's a fine view looking toward Torrance. I was admiring the shady bench in the thick grass facing the great view when I noticed a huge paw print in the sand under the playground equipment (see photo). Well. It scared me, haha. Was it left by a giant dog or a really big cat, the kind of cat that has people for lunch...... I immediately pictured a mountain lion using that sand for a litterbox. And then I got the hell out of there. I sure hope it's simply my active imagination at work here, but between the horsey poop nearby & that impression in the sand....this space gave me the heebie jeebies and it's not even Halloweenies yet..... 11 photos
